Let's say some of the letters were romantic, some of them were platonic but all in all they were just to catch up and keep up on his life and him wondering about yours. He knows you're not a romantic option and he knows you probably haven't thought about him but he just missed you and wrote a bunch of letters.

You could scare her off. That's a definite possibility. It depends on the nature of your past relationship to her.
What's your reason for doing this - are you just simply wanting to show appreciation?
She may be concerned about how to respond to you. She'll be worried about saying anything that might give you false hope for a future with her.
Some people (male or female) get more uncomfortable than others, when faced with someone's emotions.
Is this practice for you, learning how to express yourself?
If you're not friends now, then you can't lose her as a friend. Maybe it's like sending a birthday or holiday greetings - just to say 'hey' and 'thanks.' You're saying 'letters', plural, so clearly you want it to be an ongoing or not-single event.
It's really up to you. There's no one answer, right or wrong on this one.
Just know that you might be putting your emotions into something where ultimately you could feel disappointed when it's not reciprocated. Embarrassment won't kill anyone, but it definitely doesn't feel great.
Maybe consider one letter, not more than a couple/few pages, and then be done with it. That might be a compromise.

Oh I'm proud i waa 1 away from qualifing in our championship meet in an event that's not my best event. Besides the 2 people that knocked me out was my teammates who graduated. This they last College meet.

I think the handwritten letter is a lost art. Besides the worst thing that can happen is that she says she isn't interested.
I am married but recently I reconnected with a woman I knew from college and it was really nice to catch up since it had been almost 30 years.

I'm young and confused and she was kind to me in a really difficult time when no one else was and helped me through a dark period. Must've seen something in me and took a chance and I'm probably nowhere near as important but it'd be nice to express how important she is.

If he knows I am not into him romantically he is just being annoying by sending me romantic stuff. A letter alone these days are by format way more romantic than text/email.
