Why is he not adding me on his fb?

I 42 and iam in relation with this guy who is 47. We know each other from the past 2 years n in relationship since a year and a half. His on fb from the start but has been saying that he doesn't use it so I never bothered. His only there as his subscribed to few news groups and has only few close family members around 10 or 12 whom he doesn't get to see as his in overseas. Recently I asked him to add me on but he didn't. i sent him a fren request which he didn't accept but instead gave me a call n explained the above. He claims that he doesn't believe in the virtual world n his just a message or a call away... always available for me on viber or watsapp as he has been for the past 2 years. His relation with me is not hidden from his family as I have been to his place many times with n without him. His mum is my fb fren and we always call n talk to each other. Now the question is... is he being honest or deceiving me. we are in a distant relationship and I don't knw how to take this. Why would he not connect with me on fb if he does have a account and his 13 or 14 connections are there... why not me? We have had this argument a few times now and he is adamant not to add me. He says m part of his life not a fb connection so I have the right to ask him whatever I want to but he won't add me on fb? I am just so confused.
