You might have to find the silver lining in it: if you couldn't survive the distance, then it wasn't as strong as you thought, and you are free to find a better relationship that may be able to survive the struggles of life someday.
I made a decision to not get involved in LDRs unless I am married to the person because they are hard and take WORK with a lot of SACRIFICE. And unless I'm dead-set already committed to you (married) and will basically sacrifice anything to keep our relationship going, I'm not interested in the extra work.
I had an LDR and it didn't work out well. We didn't see each other enough, and I had other options closer by I had chemistry with. It is part of our evolutionary biology, and we're kind of challenging it with LDRs. We search for partners in close proximity to team up with and protect our young. We are the only species to hold LDRs because survival wise, it isn't functional. You can't help someone fight a bear from 2 states away.
I'm not saying LDRs are impossible. But I don't like them because they require that extra work, and the only person I feel like is worth that work is my fiancé/husband.
Sorry if this wasn't helpful.

By accepting that as fact and stop getting involved in long distant relationships.
