Is it ok for my Girlfriend to have dinner with a male friend?

So here's the deal. I have been living with my girlfriend for over a year now and she has gone home to her family for the holidays, in a different country. I had to work so I am here.

The other night she met up with an old friend that she hasn't seen in over 7 years. She told me they were having dinner so I figured they might be out for an hour or two. 6 hours went by and while she was sending me the odd text my mind started turning on me. When she did eventually get home and called me, she said they had dinner and then drinks afterwards. She was a little bit typsy but I kept calm and just talked to her normally.

The thing that kept making me paranoid was a comment she told me before that he was into her going back years ago. I am not happy that he went out drinking with her and payed for the meal as well.

Am I over thinking this or is this normal behaviour?

I wouldn't worry about it, because you have her. If she is into their other guy she hasn't seen in 7 years, and she leaves you for him... that is a win for you. You can move on, find someone better and I hope you'd be happy for her, if she is happy.

Although from what you describe, it sounds like it was just a friendly meet up. Old friends have to meet up somewhere, dinner and drinks are probably one of the best ways as it is in public.

If this is a issue for you, talk about it when she gets back.

I'd personally see it as more of a issue if one or both of you tries to control the other to say you can't have any friends, no meeting up with anyone, and they isolate you or you isolate them so they have no friends.

If you both love each other and she really does love you, there is no way she could cheat. People usually can't cheat if they are in love with someone else. I say this because I can't imagine cheating if I am in love with someone else, there is no way I could do it.

Hey bud, if you never had any agreement in the relationship that you cannot go out and have dinner/drinks with a friend of the opposite sex alone then she did nothing wrong going out with this friend. Nor are you doing anything wrong by feeling bothered or jealous. This just means you have to talk about it with her.

Tell her exactly what you didn't like and why you didn't like it. Discuss if you would like to create any boundaries for yourselves from this point, so maybe you and her can still continue to have dinner with a friend, but no drinks. Or not meet at all unless in a group of three or more people so in such situations always get a +1 at least. Or maybe even invite that friend to your house while you are both present at home. Explore your boundaries, explore your options and make sure you're on the same page and agree on something you both are content with.

I have a guy friend who recently started dating but we still hang out meeting alone, well it's pretty new and I've only met him once since, going to buy some gifts for my niece from a craft store as I am currently home to visit my family during the holidays.

Although I've been cheated on in the past I personally still stand by letting my man hang out with female friends because I firmly believe that if I have to put restrictions on a man to make sure he stays loyal then I'm already not interested in being with him to begin with.

Its normal to feel like you do, It isn't normal to let it consume your every thought though. Somethings to consider would be her culture perhaps. You said different country so It although it may not be customary to do that where you are from it may not be as big of a deal where she is from. Anything is possible and you have to think about this logically instead of emotionally. She knows I'll always protect and provide for her, so her femininity/ willingness to please is through the roof.

I would say your internal response to the situation is completely normal, if that guy liked her in the past there’s strong chance that he tried to make moves on her, but at the same time you did the right thing by not projecting your insecurity.
