Cheating is being deceitful usually by your actions but can include lying. You can actually lie with good intentions (e. g. protecting someone from an unpleasant truth) but cheating always involves someone obtaining undue advantage. or disadvantaging others.

  I don't like liars. Why protect them from an unpleasant truth when they will find out and then find out you lied?
