Would you be upset if your significant other didn’t attend an important event?

I participate in live gig events every two weeks. My girlfriend doesn’t attend because she says I don’t verbally invite her. I feel that I shouldn’t have to do that because part of being in a relationship is being there for that person and supporting them. I think she should have come on her own if she wanted to see me perform. We live together, so it’s not like it would’ve been an inconvenience. She says she doesn’t see my point of view and that if I wanted her there I would’ve asked her to come? She doesn’t see my point of view.

I just kinda think she sucks. Is it okay if I say that out loud? I used to think women just kind of suck this way as people raised to be selfish and just kind of assholes overall even if they have cute little assholes we can put our dicks into. I had ex-girlfriends who would show up at the airport when I returned from business trips once or twice, going out of their way to meet me, until it devolved to, "Go fuck yourself."

But then I met my wife. And she changed my mind about how great women can be. She showed up at the airport every single time, like 4 times a year, 10+ years straight without missing a beat, always waiting for me and running and jumping into my arms while I drop my baggage. Every single time! I even told her she doesn't have to do it but she'd cancel her plans with work, family, and friends, every single time for over 10 years to meet me.

There are actually women that good. I married her as soon as I could. So I think your girlfriend sucks if you'll forgive me for it. She's a selfish piece of shit.

You for assuming if she loved you she would attend without you asking. While true to an extent, never assume something of the other. If she says you never invited her as her excuse, challenge it by inviting her and see what happens.

Maybe she supports you, but doesn't attend because she knows it is your passion and hobby and may want to give you space to enjoy it. This is a communication issue that looks pretty easy to solve, my guy.

This is 100% just a communication issue. If I weren’t verbally invited to an event I would think that it means that the person doesn’t want me to attend. In your case, you believe that she should come when u don’t invite her. You two just have different ways of understanding the situation. That’s fine and there is nothing wrong with that. It doesn’t mean she cares any less for u than u do for her. She just didn’t understand that you felt the way you do. Relationships are like 80% compromise so I would say talk to her and let her know how u feel AND listen to how she feels then compromise. Maybe she surprises you on a couple of live streams and maybe u invite her to some others. It really just depends on the conversation you both have with each other. Good luck!

Sounds like you two need to learn how to communicate, that means not just uttering words to each other but actually take time and think about how the other indivual perceives the words that are being spoken. It requires a little more effort but it does wonders to a relationship.

She doesn't want to assume you want her at your (work?). She doesn't want to smother you or hover over you. If it's important to you that she attends, you'll ask her to. If you simply don't mind her attending, you'll say so. If you just say, "I thought you knew you could come," she won't know if you really want her there or if you're just being polite.

There are some events that require you communicating your desire for her to be there. Then there's those that she should just know she should mark her calendar down. In your case, I would expect her to have gone before but I wouldn't expect her to go every time.

You need to start asking her to be there, giving her the free tickets and such in the long run, no you should have made your point, but you still need to provide the means to be there.

I’ve told her the first time that I shouldn’t have to tell her. She should be there regardless. So she knows how I feel, but still doesn’t choose to come on her own because she says “well, you didn’t invite me” or “you didn’t ask me to come”
