What The Heck is A “Situationship?”?

I’ve seen this term used a few times here on GaG, and now I saw it once on a published article over the last week. What does this term mean and why has it come to be?

In other words, what makes a particular connection to another person so that a widely accepted term such as boyfriend/girlfriend, fiancé/fiancée, husband/wife, spouse, and so on isn’t adequate to explain the dynamic?

a -relationship- is a generic term that is usually understood as being a committed and exclusive one between two people...

while a -situationship- is a generic term for a relationship in which some things are not as defined... could be an open one, involve more people, or more casual, or more or less involved as friends with benefits... or the people are still undecided on how they feel about each other, or they have an on and off relationship and so on, and what not...

-situationship- can be used for simplicity

Makes sense I suppose but the term is so ambiguous as to seem pointless. I guess it’s just not one I can connect with.

A connection that lacks direction. It is going nowhere but circles and to get out of the circle cycle eventually one person will have to leave it when they are ready. So its a connection for now.

Okay. Now this makes real sense. In fact, now that you put it in that context is makes sense why the people I’ve seen use it kind of fit into a category.
