How do you stop being naive?

Question

When I had holidays by the sea, the friends I made there told me that before they got to know me in person, they nicknamed me as “The Girl with Pink Glasses.” As I always walked around with different pink glasses. I don’t think I am naive but I have my moments of naivety sometimes.

Now, I wonder how do you stop looking at life with pink glasses and become more practical and less naive? Does it come with age or experiences?

To me that is a core issue of trust and using your understanding of others to put them into perspective. So maybe both evaluating yourself... do you trust too much, too positive and as well if you put that trust in the right places. Then looking at the person/issue and understanding that people are "fallen emotionally" helps not be pulled into their frame. You need to be strong in yourself but compassionate as well. If you are sensitive and empathetic, your behavior may be a mask of avoidance to avoid conflict.

Some people are wired to see things more positive and not process negatives. you'll have to evaluate if that's you and why. some is personality.

To me, foundation in God/Christ has influence upon how you view people and things. Beliefs influence, no matter what the belief is. Awareness is key.

Cultivate some self awareness by slowing down before making decisions. Try reading books, articles, reliable news sources and listen to podcasts. The more you know the better equipped you'll be to assess situations accurately.

Seeing as needing to get more street smart is a good thing and you can improve it.

The guys on here will never not be naive and always brain washed with porn and anime. Thinking they are the main character and not a very back round character in someone else's life.

It comes with experience. As a kid I was very naive to the point of stupidity. Eventually I reached a point where I questioned everyone's intentions.
Life eventually hardens you, but everyone has their own pace I assume.

you're a reader, right? maybe you could read about autobiographies or memories by people who have gone through these kind of situations, because I sure would not wish you any experiences like these, on anybody

Wisdom. You can be the oldest and most experienced person in the world, doesn't necessarily mean you learned anything from it. Learn what you need to for efficient navigation of adulthood. When you look at life with rose colored glasses, all the red flags just look like flags.

However, I don't think you'd want to smother that ember of hope which drives passion. I encountered this at one point, though it may have been fueled by a certain amount of arrogance, where the deterministic nature of my education made me question the point of life. I was way too young to be that jaded thinking I knew what was coming at every turn. I'd barely begun to live right out of school.

I think maintaining a certain degree of innocence and keeping in touch with your inner child is important. I believe this is the real challenge for many. I think you should cherish what you enjoy because one day you may not be able to anymore. That too, is wisdom.

Age and experience aren't synonyms. I've met naïve Gen-X and I've met Millennials with as much experience as I had at their age.

There's nothing wrong with being a bit naïve. Most people stop being naïve because they get hurt. The level of pain endured determines the life experience you get.

I'd rather be naïve than cynical.
