Should I get on birth control if we are about to be financially able to have a child?

Right now my boyfriend and I aren't able to have a child due to financial difficulties but I will be coming into a lot of money soon. Enough to be debt free and raise a child. But until I get the money, I'm wondering if I should get on birth control.

We're long distance right now so we don't have sex that often but when I get the money I will be living with him and getting married (hopefully).

How long does it take for you to become fertile again after getting off birth control? I don't want it to mess up my chances of having a child.
