Is it normal to joke about killing your girlfriend?

My boyfriend jokes about killing me sometimes, by choking me and jokes about beating me up. The latter is fine as I consider it horse play and he has that sort of a personality but the homicide jokes really make me uncomfortable. I like people who are romantic, sweet and kind to their partners, he knows this. Am I overreacting? Is this a normal thing for guys to think/say?

The reason this makes you feel uncomfortable , is because it makes you not feel safe and respected in your relationship, , a girl wants to feel safe and respected and loved in her relationship, if she doesn’t feel that with a guy , that’s usually when she leaves or hooks up with someone else that makes her feel safe. For my situation, it's not even him saying it when I'm getting on his nerves, it's kind of just out of the blue and it's really off putting because he doesn't just say "I'm gonna kill you" or something like that, he mentions scenarios and it's kind of unsettling and I don't know what to make of it except that I don't like it :/
