It means get better jokes. Women like to complement. They like to not make people feel bad. So if it’s complementing something or laughing at a bad joke it means they’re trying to be nice.
My advice, get funnier jokes. Making her laugh for real is a better tactic for getting a date.

Women do this all the time. They're just being nice and don't want you to feel stupid if they didn't find it funny.

However, if you're something of an 'unpopular' guy telling an unfunny joke, they will absolutely not laugh at it. But if you're the guy everyone thinks is cool, she'll laugh even if he's telling terrible jokes.

I personally have an absolutely terrible sense of humor and it gets worse when I like a guy. Currently I like this guy and he makes really corny and punny jokes, some are quite terrible, but I laugh anyway because of how he makes me feel. I don't ever fake laugh though.
