I looked through my girlfriend’s phone and found something that made me suspicious. Is this cheating or am I overreacting?

I didn’t want to invade her privacy, but something felt off. Saw messages that seemed flirty or secretive. No proof, but my gut says something’s up. Has anyone else caught something like this? How did you handle it? Did it turn out to be nothing or the start of a breakup?

Your gut is probably correct and yes I've been there, over and over again, and despite not having valid proof, I'm always proven right in the long run.

If you don't catch it, and let it be nothing, she will just repeat this cycle over and over until her cheating becomes so overt that she can't really hide it and you'll probably have proof shoved in your face. I'll give you some examples of that from my own experience... a STI from nowhere, a random guy I don't even know trying to fight me (this happened a lot), females that used to be her friend spilling the beans, dudes that are the boyfriend of a a friend of hers telling me, her feeling so guilty she tells me herself, pregnancy, females that hate her because she stole their man on the DL, excuses that don't make sense like too drunk to drive so she has to stay at her friend's house, and then like you... that damn phone and social media usually has all the damn dirt right there. Amazing what forgetting her phone when she went to work did when I was the one responding to the texts. Time will reveal it with proof but you'll get burned so effing much along the way that I think it's best to just get out before you deal with more than that familiar gut feeling.

Now I know it's super easy for me to just say that, and IRL it's hard to split with someone you probably have feelings for, commitments to, and possibly obligations with and you have no proof... at least not real proof. My gut feeling has never been wrong though, and I suggest you don't ignore yours. I'm assuming you're not one of those paranoid skizo types.

Oh and speaking of that, pay attention to if she starts trying to gaslight you. If you hear, "He's just a nice guy, He's just a really good friend, you're just jealous, you're just paranoid, or you're just _______." and you never were before her. That's her telling you that you're shit you're not "just" are all of a sudden. She's making you that way, and there are reasons she's making you that way. DO NOT JUST IGNORE THAT, just because you don't have the kind of proof you can shove in her face. Even if you get that proof, you're not going to like it, and you're just going to find out you dealt with yatta yatta amount of time being a fool.

It’s kind of over already. You have lost trust and without it the relationship will not last.
If you confront her about it, she will most likely deny it. However, that won’t rebuild your trust. Either she hasn’t done anything wrong or she has, either way she will refuse to do the work necessary to rebuild trust. She might even admit to cheating on you and claim to be willing to do the work. If you accept those terms, she will cheat on you again and you will deserve it.
Don’t be a sucker. Dump her.

I don't know what you seen but if you go through someone's phone you will always see something you don't like. ALWAYS, especially if you don't know the context. What you should do now is tell her what you done and seen and how it made you feel. I also think you should apologize for violating her privacy and justify your actions.

Probably cheating, and never let people make you feel bad for looking at your partners phone. A cheater is a cheater regardless of their fake ass hiding convos claiming privacy issues between her and other men. Talk to her about it, if you have doubts dump her and work on finding someone better.

If she has flirty texts with another guy , then she is already cheating , and if she is acting shady , that’s a clear sign she is , Cheating isn’t just physical , it’s emotional as well , by her investing her time in someone else behind your back is cheating. A girl that truly values you and loves you isn’t going to invest her time into other guys’ period , she will immediately tell another guy she is happily in a relationship and make it clear she isn’t available. So it’s up to you on whether you want to confront her and confess you saw her texts with another guy , and then dump her.
