What are your thoughts on the “Men Of The Year” trend?

For those unfamiliar, this viral trend has women recording videos, or showing voicemails, or text messages, from their ex-boyfriends/husbands or current partners that are inarguably incredibly heinous things to say to another individual, let alone the woman you’re in a relationship with, and while it plays you see the text “Man of the year” written over it.

What are my thoughts? For those facing abusive relationships or had prior struggles and want to educate / inform other men, women, teenagers, etc. of the warning signs / abuse and baggage that comes with a toxic relationship then good on them.

My only concern is, wondering how many of those will be faked to garner views and attention…. Social media can be very addictive and you can get a dopamine rush from viewership, so dramatizing / demonizing a fake entity or real people for views isn’t outside the realm of possibility. That is my only concern.

I believe if it helps them find peace of mind, makes them feel good knowing they are preventing another girl or woman from going through the same cycle of abuse, and or by providing ‘wall of text’, videos, voicemails, etc. it may signal out to a friend, colleague, or relative of someone dealing with an abusive relationship to get out of it sooner then it is fine in my book and completely justified in that regard.

Message to my fellow men: If you want to be ‘Man of The Year’ for real, buy her flowers, complement her hair/outfit, give her hugs, offer help and emotional support, don’t judge her hanging out with her girl squad, and tell her “I Love You” when you mean it because of course you do, you love her so treat her the way you’d want to be showed love, appreciation, care, support, etc. Be the ‘Man of The Year’ she wants you to be, and one you can look back on and be proud of it. God Bless You! She loves you, so show that you love her too. Thank you.
