The number one reason (I don't call them excuses) is that the other partner has unilaterally ended their sex life. "I don't want to have sex with you anymore." Well, your sudden loss of sexual desire is not any reason for your partner to not try his or her luck elsewhere. (Wo) man up, or get out of the way. Because given the choice between abstinence and cheating, I'll take cheating every time. I'm not going to rape my partner, so I'll get sex where I can; elsewhere.
