Looks like it's more about demonising women than solving an actual problem. I suspect a tiny insignificant number of mothers commit paternity fraud but they want to paint all women as untrustworthy to appease far right misogynistic who'll never be father's anyway.
It's about everyone being on even ground in my opinion. I don't see how definitively establishing paternity at birth hurts anyone except those who are willfully trying to deceive others.
Can’t say I’m a fan of bypassing a judge for nothing but pure spite. Living in Tennessee is slowly becoming a misogynistic theocracy, just like God intended I suppose 🙄
Paternity - As introduced, clarifies that a party to a civil or criminal proceeding in which the paternity of a child is at issue may voluntarily seek a genetic test from an accredited laboratory before a court issues an order requiring the genetic test. - Amends TCA Title 24, Chapter 7; Title 36 and Title 68.

I hope it doesn’t pass. This attitude of calling all women whores and cheaters by putting in laws that require paternity tests leave a bad taste in my mouth.

Legislators make laws, courts interpret them. If they pass this law, then the court has to amend and conform, or interpret it differently.
