Status in a career sense doesn't really work in that direction. Both past and present, a woman's looks were her "status". Her career didn't matter at all and her position in society only mattered for connections (I. E. political marriage). It is the men whose "status" is built around career, and there it can matter. It VERY much mattered in the past, but not as much now.
