What is the worst way someone has hurt you with a comment and later claimed it was just "a joke"?

There are some mean spirited people in this world and if you date more than just a few partners over your lifetime, you will probably encounter one. I certainly have.

When they feel so motivated, they will make some statement that I would think of as mean spirited. For example, they may criticize your appearance, your sexual performance, or your intelligence. Then, when you react to what they have said, they will defend themselves by saying, "You're overreacting. It was just a joke"

I had worked in the yard all afternoon and I was dirty, tired, and exhausted when I finished and went inside. My then-wife said that I needed to take a long hot bath and she would go get it started for me. We had a garden tub and it took several minutes to fill. When I went in the bathroom, she had started a bubble bath. I didn't think much of it and took a good, long soak.

About a week later, at a family gathering, she felt compelled to announce to the crowd that I had taken a bubble bath. She said it in a manner that clearly indicated that "real men" don't take bubble baths. Later, in private, when I complained to her about the comment, I got the usual too sensitive, just a joke response.

What is your experience with such people?

My partner "joked" about my physical appearance.
My partner "joked" about my sexual ability or lack of experience.
My partner "joked" about my education status.
My partner "joked" about my intelligence.
My partner "joked" about my abilities as a parent.
My partner "joked" about my job/career.
Something else I'll explain in a comment.
