its quite simple. See, it depends on how old you are. Most guys in the middle of their twenties are still trying to get their career in order. We are still trying to find a routine to keep us OK for years to come. Finding a girlfriend to be COMMITTED to takes money. Especially if they are one of the guys that look for marriage. Why? Its always the guy who takes them out to dinners, the guy who takes care of the women, the guy who take them on trips, the guy who finds an affordable place to live...yadda yadda yadda.
No matter what, even if you both agree NOT to pay for each other, the guy still some how PAYS.
thats why younger guys usually just want sex. It cuts to the point, and is usually satisfies both parties without cutting into plans into career building.
once we have a career set, its THEN that we would want someone to get married to.
Sure there are other women their age, but guess what? most already have families. Or let themselves go. Either way.
So we go for people with the age mentality like ours. And we can afford it now by then.
so yeah, he probably wants a real relation ship because he can have one now with feeling hectic.
but whether or not its just sex he wants, that's totally for you to find out. but love is always a potential I guess.
The attraction of a younger women is that frequently they are more fit/more beautiful and less demanding. Less fickle, less bitchy, and less history. Older single women are often falsely characterized as having baggage, being gold-diggers, easily upset or cynical which perpetuates a stereotype he is likely avoiding.
If the guy is active/in good shape/healthy he may perceive a younger woman to be more able to keep up with him and his sex drive. Being in his 40's means that he has a good 5-10 years before he starts to see a loss of sex drive and on some on unconscious level he may think a younger woman may yield a more satisfying long term sexual partner until that happens.
Using an evolutionary model a younger female is more capable of conceiving/baring/raising offspring. Using that same model a wealthier male partner is better able to provide for a younger female and her potential offspring. On some level women always feel money is sexy even if they say the opposite.
But really the only thing that matters is if you find he's a nice guy and if he treats you well.
In his 40's he may be willing to wait a bit longer for sex giving you time to find out his history before you decide to sleep with him.

I am in my forties and I date younger women. This may be because I got married young, then did not have another woman until I was old.
mostlt though, younger women are nicer. Older women can be scary. In addition, older women like to humiliate men. Of course the huge issue is that I want a family, and a woman my age cannot giv ex that
Women age worse than men, generally speaking, because of make-up use and the many other female products that affect appearance.
Many women cannot throw off the baby fat for example.
It's life. I'm sure he's interested in you for the right reasons, but also because women his age are saggy and unattractive.
Men from -any- age want women from 16 to 30, not just some creepy old freaks.
Because that's the age then they are physically mature and the most fresh!
