I think there is a difference between religion and worship. The problem I see is that it is worship that causes the problems we see in religion. Not just religion, theists like to criticise atheism for the actions of Communist Russia and the purges, however it was state worship that resulted in that, same for nazi Germany (not an atheist state but religion was not necessarily the result of the holocost either). The way I see it is that religion to civilisation is like a mothers breast to a child. It's necessary for civilisation to begin. However as civilisation grows and morals and ethics become less dependent on theistic doctrine the less we need religion. As an atheist I still believe we need Christianity in the world (especially to fight radical Islamic terror) the world just isn't ready for atheism, people need God.
The secular world has created a lot of great things, such as communism and other wonderful atrocities that haven't gotten more people killed than in WWII.
You lost me at 'all religions are bad except for mine'. That's the kind of thing that lead to me questioning religion as a kid. I couldn't wrap my head around genuinely good people in other parts of the world being sent to eternal suffering in Hell because they were raised with a different set of beliefs than my own.
Religions are businesses. But i really don't appreciate you downsizing other peoples beliefs. Yes, people have done terrible things regarding religion but in my personal opinion its just an excuse to do bad things. Im not a religious person. However i really dont think bashing other religions like this is a good thing. In this fucked up world some people need to believe there is something other than this life.
"Every religion is inherantly evil and deceptive except Christianity." Says the guy who is only a Christian because Christians pillaged and dominated your ancestors cultures until they realized that converting to Christianity and pretending to believe in Jesus was the only way to save themselves and their families from the slaughter.
@Trestolone Generations of islamic inbreeding have turned him into a degenerate sub-human (not that his ancestors had much to start with). He shall have his day soon enough.

That's your opinion, we all have our own.. Does that make them true? Not necessarily.. does it make them false? Not necessarily.. They're opinions after all.
Each and every person, whether religion or not, have their own way of finding peace within themselves, but when these opinions are forced on others, strive manisfests, and that is how wars occur.
We don't worship the pope. We pray for the pope, we do not pray to the pope. As for our veneration of Mary as well as saints, I'd classify that as differing doctrines, and I respect debate around it. But there are vast doctrinal differences between many churches; not just between Catholic and Reformed. What about the vast differences within Reformed churches? For example The Episcopal Church is very different from a Baptist Church, are only one of them Christian? How would you classify Eastern Orthodox Churches? All of these institutions base their religion around the teachings of Christ, which is why 99.999% of the world considers them all Christian. I get that we both view each other as heretics, but denying that Catholics are Christians seems bizarre, petty, and meaningless.
Jesus clearly commanded not to call anyone on this earth "Father" Yet Catholics call the Pope Holy Father. Referring to him as a spiritual father. Just one of many man made teachings the Catholic Church teaches wrong.
That same passage also forbids a man from calling any other man their teacher. Yet certainly you wouldn't call Protestants who refer to someone as a teacher, religious or not, as heretical. The point was more about condemning the hubris of the Pharisees. There are numerous examples later in the New Testament of apostles using the father-son relationship in a spiritual way. 1 Cor 4:14-15; 1 John 2:1; and numerous other examples. It is in that tradition that we refer to the pope as The Holy Father.
But you never answered my larger question. If in order to be a Christian you need to abide by the exact correct doctrines, then why do you single out Catholics and not every denomination that disagrees with your own.
They all are dangerous... Promoting hate, prejudices. ALL of them are founded in old and archaic beliefs. The worst part about religions is that they all push their beliefs on other people.
oh come on, another butthurt atheist. You're evil, trying to make everyone hate us. And hey Hitler killed about 6 Million jews because he was butthurt just like you. Meaning: EVERY ATHEIST IS A RACIST MURDERER. <-- This is what you sound like dude... seriously cut it out no one asked you to like us we only want God to like us that's why no one listens to your bullsh*t
You're mistaking religion and faith with what people do in the name of it. It's not the religion per se, it's the people following it. Nowhere in any bible does it instruct people to act other than godly, or like Christ.
Too many people fail to separate the 'people of the church' with the religion.
Islam encourages and commands war and terror against infidels. It's really a good thing good Muslim people over look it and just ignore that command. Otherwise with a billion of them literally following that order there's a good chance you and I would've been dead by now.
When you have a true relationship with the true living God there is no fear. People create a religion and false gods to hide behind to protect their fear. To protect their self in what they do. Having a relationship with the true living God is not a religion.
I'm not religious (but inn not an atheist) but I'm applying to a Catholic high school and my aunt and her family are all full Catholics and I went to her baptism. I completely respect any religion just as long as they let me think about unicorns 😄

i am agonistic i believe that people create religion out of fear of death and/or to make themselves feel better. we dont want to believe were alone in the universe, so we make up gods and people watching over us to help us feel better. now dont get triggered. if i see proof, ill believe 100% in whatever it is. but we dont have solid proof, as much as many religious people would like to claim. so i wouldn't say i agree or disagree with this. thats just my opinion.
@ImACowgirl there isn't proof. I don't care what's written in some old page. I need to see, with my eyes, God. If you can show me God, I'll believe you.
You will not ever see him because you dorm even be live in him. The proof is nature. Where did you come from? You have no proof that he doesn't exist. Your belief is new. The belief in God is far older than anything you know today. Why? Because he exist. People wouldn't make that up? For what? When without a God you can do whatever you like so why create a higher being that will stop you from doing that? You should watch Atheist Delusion on YouTube. Maybe that will open your eyes.
"Every religion is inherantly evil and deceptive except Christianity". I disagree with this even though I am a spiritual person who doesn't involve in any religious rituals. No religion was created with an evil intention. There were/are/will be evil people who use religion as a shield for their evil deeds
They venerate Mary as a Saint. The Pope is nolonger considered divine. Whereas "protestants" hold that the Bible authorized the Church, Catholics hold that the Church authorized the Bible by compiling the 66 canon books. These, however are details. Catholics believe Biblical truth just like Baptists do.
I don't mind your opinion it's yours but don't say bullshit about Islam without knowing what it is Infidels in quran is limited for the quraish and ofc you are dumb shit who doesn't even to care about the source of his info so you won't know who are these
Religion plays a mayor role mantaining the world in order, without God or gods there will be no almighty laws we would respect therefore the fear for the supernatural would go away, the idea of an afterlife would perish and the moral bondaries probably will be forgotten and be replaced by libertinism, because if there is no God/gods there is surely no eternal suffering or eternal paradise, so with that mindset there is nothing to loose for whatever you do.
@shatteredclouds15 in fact there is an experiment that back up what I said. I donĀ“t remember how it name but as soon I find it I will pass you the link.

Agree. I meant average Joe secular person.

Heretic.

So far from the truth.
Lol ok pick up a history book sometime.
@TangoLima Too bad we forgot to slaughter his ancestors. Fucking heretic.
@Trestolone Generations of islamic inbreeding have turned him into a degenerate sub-human (not that his ancestors had much to start with). He shall have his day soon enough.
"Catholicism isn't Christianity" Finally, someone gets it. Good job 👍
Good take overall. This is one of the only good takes I've actually read on this site, let alone in the Religion & Spirituality category.
Thank you.

Merriam-Webster defines Christian as, " one who professes belief in the teachings of Jesus Christ". How do Catholics not fall under that distinction?
Because they worship Mary Jesus mother, They worship a Pope, and teach many false doctrine as well.

probably 75% of all wars are religion based.
Too bad it's not 100%
We need to crusade and take out all of the heretics

I agree with your point but hitler was NOT a atheist. people need to stop spreading that.
Stalin would fit in your example though.
um actually not every atheist is a racist murderer, as much as you might like to think so. :/ it sounds like you're the butthurt one here sweetie
@shatteredclouds15 can't you see the sarcasm in the sentence?
@applesandoranges22 he was, he thought of himself as a God and didn't believe in anyone or anything. Trust me I'm from germany.
saraaaah hitler was a pagan polytheist, so not an atheist

Well the scriptures are far older than agnostic. There's plenty of proof if you so wish to find it. Js.

Although i am not Catholic, perhaps you can explain to the readers why the only expression of Christianity for 1500 years is not Christianity.
And while you are at it, reveal your denomination and explain why it ha the keys to the Kingdom, whereas the Catholics and, i presume others, do not.
They worship the mother of Jesus. They worship a man called the Pope and teach many man made doctrines.
I'm a Christian. I don't follow demonations. I simply follow Jesus Christ and the gospel.
They venerate Mary as a Saint.
