What I think the sabbath can tell us about God’s will

The fact God wants us to seek him 7 days a week but only work 6 days a week is a sign to me that faith is more important than work but of course you cannot be a good Christian without the willingness to work, what the sabbath shows us is that our value is greater than our productivity and work, it is a reflection of our relationship with God. In the same way that the steak is more important than the mashed potatoes, the bra more important than the shirt, the shoes more important than the socks, the water more important than the food, so faith is more important than work.

The sabbath shows us that we were created first to acknowledge and revere God, and second to serve and work for God through our acknowledgement and reverence. If humans were only valuable when they work, they would be worthless to God after they die, and worthless to society after they retire from their jobs, but human beings have a spiritual beauty inside that no amount or work can add or subtract and that value comes from God. To me the sabbath is an internal signal that our value is determined by God and not by how hard we work, only that our work helps us to reap the benefits of our relationship with God, just like a child is loved even if he does not work, but he won’t have food if he does not work. To me the sabbath is a sign God loves humankind.
