Indians of G@G, this girl I'm seeing is extremely materialistic and seems angry at life. Why is this so common among Indians?

It seems like the vast majority of Hindu Indians I've known are angry people. Super materialistic (which I don't really mind, although I do prefer more spiritual depth) and very angry at life in general. The women I've dated in the past have kind of been the same way, so I assume this is a Hindu cultural thing because they have been very different people besides that. I can't tell if they are actually angry people or just very expressive.

I'm a christian man myself, so I'm not really how to interpret this behavior. Are Hindu Indians angry people, and if so; why?

If you find some aspects of her personality repelling, just why on earth are you still with her? If you are dating her for the sake of "spiritual depth" I would advice you to stop right away. Not all Indians are Hindus, not all are into Yoga and certainly, not all of them are spiritual or religious. You cannot box people into one category and label them as "good" or "bad".

Putting your vague generalizations aside, what makes you say that she is angry at life? If she was angry at life, why did you even start dating her? Anyone, regardless of ethnicity or religion can be bitter, hateful and judgmental. I've seen plenty of religious people act bitter after preaching about love and kindness, and this applies to people of all religions out there, not only Hindus.

I'm Agnostic, but my family is Hindu and I was raised Hindu. I love my life and would not trade any aspect of it for anything else. Your personal observations are clearly biased since you seem firm on your stance and are not open minded to change your opinion in this regard.

Ignore the "caste preacher" and focus only on your relationship with this girl. Although, I'm confused, you say that you are Christian, but do not mind that your partner is "super materialistic". Now, my knowledge about the Bible and Christianity is limited, but doesn't your religion condemn materialism? Feel free to elaborate on this point because I'm sure no devoted Christian would want to go against God.

I'm still with her because there are other aspects of her personality that I like. There's literally nothing weird or vague about my "generalizations." This is shit that literally thousands of articles have been written about Indians saying the exact same thing. The Indian temper is notorious.

I didn't generalize anyone. My life experiences and personal observations of her behaviors are what made me say that she's angry at life, as stated in my question. Of course my personal observations are "biased;" that's what personal observations means.

As for why a christian is with a materialistic person; materialism by itself isn't a bad thing. The problem is idol worship. And even then, the Christian attitude is to hate the sin, love the sinner.

Uh… my family members are religious (but not me), and I don’t see them making God their entire life. They do not preach about God, or Hinduism for that matter. If they did, they would not have encouraged me to top in studies or get into a good college. IF they had made religion their entire life, they would have just said: “Oh dear Tati, just pray to Lord Ganesh and you shall get into a good medical school.” But no, I was taught the importance of hard work, determination and perseverance.

I personally don't care about idol worship. I wouldn't have dated multiple Hindu women if that was an issue for me personally. The problem I raised with idol worship was in the context of Christianity, is that the relationship with the idol takes the place of the relationship with God. The entire basis for Christian theology is that God has approached man to have a personal relationship. Hinduism doesn't see things that way. It's not wrong or bad; it's just a difference.

Anyone with some mind can easily look into all the ignorant things christians did to wipe out and take over other cultures and restrict other's worshipping what they wanted instead. It's just simple history, Christians are historically the least accepting religion out there and gained the most dominance through force.
Whether it's there ignorance to accepting homosexuality or accepting other's faiths and cultures christians aren't known to do so. So honestly it surprises me that this shocks you that someone would make this point.
