How do I bring my self to confess, haven’t done it in years and I’m really embarrassed?

Are you looking to begin actively practicing the Faith again? Or are you regularly going to Mass, but just haven't been to Confession?

You have nothing to feel embarrassed about. I went to Confession with my parish priest when he was two years ordained and he told me that he'd already heard everything there is to hear. I get it, but again, I promise you that there's not much you could bring in that the priest hasn't heard a thousand times over already.

Now as for what to do? Look up a good examination of conscience. The National Catholic Register has a good one. So does Ascension Press.

If it's been as long as it has, you should do what's called a general confession. Basically, go through the stages of your life (childhood, school, teens, young adult), and use the examination I mentioned and think of whatever sins you and write them down. Call your local parish and tell the priest that you'd like to make an appointment for a general confession.

And as it so happens, I am a certified Catechist. Basically I can help you with whatever other questions you may have.
