I ask this question precisely because whenever I come across a preachy atheist, he (it's almost always a "he", like 98% of the time) can almost never remain calm and clear-headed enough to actually make a reasonable case for why no one should believe in God anymore, because their anger gets the better of them; they're overwhelmed by it. It's almost as though they know, at least on a subconscious level, that God really does exist, and that fact makes them angry because it means that their actions will have real, long-term consequences.
Absolutely. As someone who used to believe in God and no longer does, I went through a period of anger. It was not as you describe, anger at "something you know is real", it was the exact opposite of that: anger at something I knew was not real, and the anger was about how stupid I felt for believing such a ridiculous lie for so long. Anger at others who would not see the truth and stayed in the ignorance where I once had been. My anger at them and the concept of God, was really anger at myself for being so stupid for so long.
https://www.youtube.com/embed/r6rqCy83EcAWhen arguing with others, it's more of an exasperation because of the futility of knowing the place they are in and how there really is no way to just say something logical that will break them out of the mental prison they are in. Like trying to convince someone to leave a bomb shelter who won't because they are convinced there was a nuclear holocaust, even though there wasn't, and no matter what you say or do, they come back to their holocaust fantasy and incorporate it into why they won't even look outside. Your statement that you think they actually believe in God and that's what they are angry about is a great example of how everything gets twisted to incorporate the paradigm, and they cannot see things for how they are. "Oh, you're mad because deep down you know God is real" = "Oh, you think there wasn't a nuclear holocaust because the radiation cooked your brain."

There are no such things as atheists. They are just theists living in denial, or entitled narcs, who think all should believe what they do, on their merits alone.
Any time someone claims to be "atheist" and starts preaching their opinions (which is all they have), you need only look them in the eye and ask them to state which McDonalds happy meal they got their doctorate in theology from.
They are no better than flat earthers and anti vaxxers. They aren't interested in facts or stats, just want an audience to bitch their ignorance to.
I think that every person has some inkling that there truly is a God, whether they want to admit it or not. I think that people hate the idea of being held accountable to a higher being, so they rebel against that higher being. They think that because suffering exists in the world, God must be a mean and cruel God. People become enraged at God if they think God should have protected them in the way that they think He should have, if He didn't answer their prayers in the time frame that they specified, or if they no longer feel His presence. So they display disdain for God.
Because God is unseen, they turn to science, which can be observed, and say God is unnecessary. Yet science without religion is lame, just as religion without science is blind. They call the Bible a book of "fairy tales" despite the historical accuracy of the Bible being proven over and over and over again.
Is it possible to hate something, or someone, you don't believe is real? After all, God doesn't believe in atheists.
God is the word people use when they have no satisfying explanation. And it's annoying because it's lazy. :)

If you become that enraged over just a casual discussion of the possibility of the existence of God. Then it means you are pissed off at something. Most atheist/agnostics are irritated by one question. If God is so powerful , then why does he allow so much (turmoil/Evil/Bad) to occur in the world. Most people who believe, have read or at least heard creation stories which portray a powerful spirit who has a multitude of spirit kids who are stuck as far as their development is concerned. As a spirit one can't experience Love Hate, Joy, or Misery or I guess anything emotional. They have to attain a physical body to learn those things. So we get sent to Summer Camp.(Planet Earth) with a couple of suggestions from Dad (It would be better if you did not Kill) ( It would be best if you did not interfere with your friend's Loves) While we are away at camp we have to make decisions and suffer the consequences of our decisions. We experience Love, Hate, Joy, and Misery. We can write home about it to our Spirit Dad. but he is not going to intervene. When our week at camp is over we go back home,, wiser from our experience. This much is common to all religions and of course a final judgement. Basically, Dad looking over your merit badges and Not-So Much certificates. Some religions believe in an ongoing process. You get to go to camp again (Reincarnation). Some religions believe that you only get one trip to camp and that a high camp counselor will cover for your failures. Others believe that Dad is not that harsh, that he remembers his days at camp and his understanding is based on empiricism. Bottom line? No one gets angry and hostile at something that does not exist in their opinion. They may not like it or understand it. Remember, Some of the Bible is myth passed on by mouth by shepherds gazing up at the stars and wondering how it all got here. Certainly no reason to become hostile at another because his or her concepts are different. Ok , II will shut up!
When they get angry and aggressive it points out to more of a denial than a perspective and/or point of view because if they just simply didn't believe they would just state their point of view but aggression sounds like they deny and want to continue to deny it so when they hear it, they get mad, it's the only way it makes sense to me on why they get so aggressive.
You can hate the idea and ideology. I’m not an atheist, but I’ll put myself in the shoes of one. If I were to hate God, I’d be acknowledging him.
If I were to hate the idea and ideology of Him, I’d basically hate any relevant religious belief and ideals. I’d hate that His followers believe in what I’d consider nonsense, the rules, the regulations, and basically anything they support.
Again, if I were to hate God, I’d be acknowledging his existence like “Why did you let this happen?”
If I didn’t believe in Him, my hate would be more so “If he existed, this wouldn’t happen so your beliefs are foolish.”
One can hate the concept whether it is real or not. In the case of atheists and god, the enmity stems from having to constantly defend common sense against superstition. There is also still a social bias against those not engaged with organised superstition. The perpetual challenge becomes vexing.
If you would like a sound case for why one should relieve themselves of the shackles of religion and purge the mind of belief in gods, I recommend the work of people such as Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris and Christopher Hitchens.
The problem you are encountering is fundamentalism. People often make a mistake of thinking only certain religions can be fundamentalist, but this is in error. Everyone can be fundamentalist, athiest included. The defining characteristic is how they hold to their position. Do they defend this position from a place of reason or a place of emotional investment such that any contrary perspective, arguments, or evidence are flatly denied.
You can have a set of opinions or beliefs that are completely accurate, and yet hold to them in a fundamentalist and illogical way.Believers often claim that "atheists hate God" or "atheists just don't want to obey God" but they are just projecting their own fantasies onto others. Atheists don't hate God any more than Christians hate leprechauns. It's not possible to hate something that one doesn't believe is real. Nor are atheists rebelling against God, because there's from their perspective, there is nothing to rebel against.
If you don’t believe that, such and such exists, then how can you get mad at it on your own twisted way you’re getting mad at nothing then. I do believe in a higher power I do not believe in religion that’s for sure. I don’t believe with any human can tell me about the nature of “god” for they really have no way of comprehending. But I do believe that religion when used correctly as an individual and I just blindly following whatever the religious sect leader Cj can be very beneficial tool to the individual. It’s always nice to have something to believe in.
If you hate God it means you hate what he represents and the essence of his character. I don’t believe in Allah but I hate him. The answer is yes. Also I strongly think to say one hates God, yet doesn’t believe in him is just a subconscious way to further reject what he represents.
No, but it's really easy to get angry at people who demand you accept God exists, and won't accept a simple statement that you do not believe God exists, which is claiming people don't know their own minds.
As to "preachy atheist", did he say anything before you told him you believe in God? Maybe even told him he should?I find unintelligent people accuse those who disagree with them of being hateful. For example, transphobe, homophobe, arachnophobia…
It isn’t hate its more sympathy for being confused & easily manipulated
Secondly ask a religious person to substantiate anything to prove themselves & they cannot. They merely say look around thats proof ! Or its in the bible ! That is no more proof then me quoting Harry Potter to say magic exists.
Maybe the thing isn't real or it's made up or figment of propaganda but people's actions make it real. My father nearly died in a genocide, the reasons for that were made up by the people doing the killing were surely real.
my opinion impossible like i only have white curtains but say i hate my blue curtains. like you concluded their emotion exhibited they struggle due to still believing god and failing to convince self.
Sentient World Simulation and the Quantum Internet will make you hate all sorts of things that aren't real if people don't wake up in time... You people need to stop sleeping.
You can't hate something or someone that doesn't exists
Of course it's POSSIBLE for them to hate just about ANYthing. Whether their assumptions and assertions turn out to be right or wrong will remain to be seen.
It is happening because you know deep down inside God does exist and you had better listen to that voice inside.
Emotions are always complex. I’d say you hate religious people in general, or the community. Like me, I hate their hypocrisy.
I’m an atheist, born and raised.
I do not believe in any god, thus I can’t hate them. Can’t hate something you don’t believe in.
Hate is so unnecessary
