When people make you feel weird for wanting to do things by yourself.

When you are perfectly content being alone but someone thinks you're lonely and asks if you want to join them and their group. Damn.

Society just all together glorifies extroverts not just the educational system.

When people mistake your thoughtful look for resting bitch face.

It is a personality type. I am not unfriendly, just recharge differently.

Agreeing to a lot of nights out in a row isn’t fun. AT. ALL.

On Saturady I went to a Halloween and on Sunday i went to a get together with a collegaue of my mom's and I am so tired.

You’ve become that person at parties who hangs out with the food bowl, and that’s OK.

Sometimes I just make friends with the dog.

We don’t always feel like hanging out.

We’re great listeners… but that doesn’t mean we’re shy.

A lot of times we are misunderstood mainly by extroverts.

This is very true. I can find lots to do alone. Always.

When you do talk and people are amazed about what you're thinking and you're just like.

Getting asked why are you so quiet for the umpteenth time!

So true while I choose to be by myself, I dont like being lonely.

Having visitors stay with you is a nightmare, because it means you have to be on at ALL TIMES.

I just don't have the words to help you understand.

I'm lost in those times & have no energy to try. I hate those times.

When people pressure you to be more social, whether you like it or not.

But in the end you know you are totally awesome, as Stephen Hawking said, "the quiet people have the loudest minds".

I got pretty sad really earlier this year when I was at this dumbass course thing, Where people talked about getting to know themselves and follow their dreams and what not, how to pursue them and make them a reality. All fine in theory I guess, but every single thing they talked about and did was all based on extroverts and how they behave. And me being an introvert I got all these stupid labels, which damn funny too. Lady running it claimed their system was so good and seem to think was perfect with how they "helped" people and said it had a lot scientific data and studies to back it up that what they did worked etc. Yet she had never heard about Introverts? didn't know what it was and she is like supposed to be a physchological guide in a lot of ways. And she could never understand or get it through her thick skull that I do not feel better or get recharged from going out all the time and hanging out with a lot of friends. It would make me depressed beyond words if I wasent able to get any alone time. But no this is how "all" people are and I live in denial and fear of going out and claimed I was a sheep on top of it for letting my "fear" guide me. The irony is I guess I was the only one who didn't blindly accept their bullshit and talked up against it and actually thought for myself. If anything, they are and only accept sheeps.

Either way, sorry for rambling, but my point is, its just depressing that this is how the system and society is. Its all adjusted and accomadated to extroverts. Yet more irony again, every single philoshopical quotes they used as inspiration an example of great thinkers or people who sucseeded in society on their own terms and will was all introverts. Idiots preaching a cause they dont understand.

Well, this helps me to understand a bit more introverted people.

I have my introvert moments tho, I like being alone sometimes. I like to go to the movies alone, it's my "me" time, reading is also I GOTTA DO ALONE, when I read I'm the most antisocial person.. I just go read to a corner and kill everyone with my eyes if they interrupt me.

But being around lots of people is something I really really enjoy.

i am like that the way before i go to bed. Because its my alone i can do anything from going on the internet, reading, homework, or netflix. It gives me my "me time" and its my way of putting myself first because i choose what show to watch, what i want to read, and at whatever pace i feel comfortable at. And no compromises have to be made. Its not that i hate people i just dont like being around a lot of people and i prefer more one on one conversations plus i probably bore a lot of people with my philosophical talk.

I agree with pretty much all of this. Unfortunately there are times where while I'm in deep thought (and getting interrupted constantly) I begin to realize that sometimes not only do I like to be alone, but that I just don't like people all the time. Don't misunderstand me I don't hate anybody, but I find people at large to be disruptive, annoying, thoughtless, selfish, lacking imagination and disappointing. I can completely understand that people might think me hard to get to know and that I can be a downer, trust me this is something I cultivated, as it happens people tend to leave me alone before they even speak to me, as I have been told I look pissed pretty much all the time.

I can understand. The biggest fight I had with my sister was because she thought I hated her because I wanted to spend time alone. Everything is fine now because she understands introverts better and I am willing to set aside time that I would normally spend with myself, and spend it with her.

Yeah, my family still can't seem to understand it. Friends have some touble with it too. But again the ex was very confused by it. I actually saw a guy do a spoken word about introverts which covered most of what you said but one thing that really stuck out was when he talked about how his time and solitude was very precious to him so the fact that he was sharing it with his girlfriend showed just how much she meant to him, that him giving up some of that time for her was sign of his feelings not the time he didn't spend with her. Introvert problems, what can you do. :)

This was a really good take! I just wish I was more certain on whether I'm an introvert or an extrovert. I like being alone with my thoughts a lot of the time, and I like observing. But other times I relish being in the presence of other people and talking as much as I please, even if I'm loud.

For example, I won't talk for a long time in one class simply because I'm lost in my thoughts and then when the teacher calls on me to answer a problem I talk at a somewhat loud, confident tone. Other students get surprised by it. Maybe I'm both?

I usually don't turn down an offer to socialize; but attempting to do so gets awkward fast. Especially if I like a gal in the group, and fear of sending the wrong message is crippling.

If I avoid places now, it's because of a childhood of incessantly being bullied, followed by abusive and untrustworthy women throughout my adult life.

Loneliness to me isn't a solace; it's a compromise. A place to hide from a world where I want friend, but feel like trying to make friends will more often than not just create enemies.

Very accurate. People always mistake the not wanting to be around them with not liking them, its very difficult to explain, especially to a significant other. I had an ex who didn't understand why I had to set aside two days where we didn't talk to or see eachother. "I care about you a lot and I'm glad I am in a relationship with you. Now get out and don't talk to me for two days. Nothing personal.(as I slam the door shut)" They always seem to take offense to that. Don't know why.

Iron man - Spends time with Jarvis alone or maybe pepper.
Bruce banner - Smart talks less, stays away from crowd.
Captain America - follow order or spends time with few members of his squad.
Batman - Hides from party, keeps his ID hidden! Works behind the screen as dark-knight.
Superman - dude wears glasses and is a geek in his fake life talks less, no party.
Spiderman - Works as photographer, and studies.
Pic any superhero or successful person.
Most of them are introvert.

The thing I agree with most is that shy and introverted are not the same.

In fact, I think I know more shy extroverts then actual introverts. And some of the introverts are shy, and some aren't.

Realistically, both introverts and extroverts... that doesn't really describe how they are in close relationships. Some introverts view being with their loved one as close to 'quiet time'. Some extroverts are happy with one other person. Some extroverts still want to go out all the time with the other person, some introverts need actual alone time.

People may intellectually understand, but they'll likely never empathize, and they'll never be happy with someone in a relationship who is too different on that point.

I don't socialize because I have nothing to say, not because I'm unfriendly. That, and I can smell a poser from a mile away. And I try not to spare any time for those d***weeds. And don't confuse antisocial wit asocial. Antisocial is in reference to Antisocial Personality Disorder, in which the individual cannot feel emotion, and, thusly, has no empathy and a blatant disregard for the rights, needs, and emotions of others. Asocial means you're opposed to social interaction.

oh my gosh thank you for mentioning that i forgot to put it in here but it annoys me when people ask if i am antisocial. Antisocial people are sociopaths and are hostile towards society. I am the opposite of antisocial every personality test i have taken says i have a tremendous amount of sympathy towards others.

To put it in perspective, think of Hannibal Lecter. Cool, charming exterior with a murderous, diabolical interior. If you haven't seen Hannibal, Silence of the Lambs, or Red Dragon, I recommend you watch them. Gives a pretty basic idea of what they're like.

i have not seen those movies but i know what you mean. I am in psych 101 and my class analyzed ted bundy. In college he was antisocial but over time he was able to play an outwardly confident persona but inside he was sociopathic, murderous, and manipulative.

I agree with this take. It's quite a struggle to explain to people why I need to be alone the rest of the evening if I've had a project all day, or why I need to be alone for 2 days if I went to a crowded convention. But I'm not just introverted, I'm VERY introverted. Which means I very very rarely feel the need to talk to people and that makes them think I don't like them.

Being slightly (okay maybe very lol) introverted can be tough sometimes because people just don't get us. They take things too personally when I ask for some alone time, and they immediately jump to the conclusion that something is wrong. i just like to look at them to see how accurate they are. About half the time, these kind of articles are not made by an actual introvert. One girl on here said she appreciated it because she understands introverts more. thats a win in my book.

HAHA this is so me it's not even funny. If I have trouble making conversation with random people, I NEED food nearby to keep myself busy, just take a biscuit here, a bit of cake there, sip of a drink here every so often to keep myself occupied and to stop people looking at me cause they realise im not involved in their conversation and its awkward as hell.

Nailed it! I especially agree with the points were people assume because I'm quiet that I'm mean, angry, depressed, etc. when I'm actually an optimistic person who is friendly and polite to others. Just because I feel better staying in watching Netflix or reading a book doesn't mean I hate the world. It can be physically draining going out more than twice a week.

I had my own dorm in college, I always traveled alone, I ate alone, I stay in my own room 90 percent of the time. But its not because i'm a stereotypical loner like the media portrays

Nice take! I agree with it entirely. This is something I've experienced my whole life and still do now. The frustrations, the misunderstandings just because people can't seem to grasp that I'm quite happy in my own company a lot of the time.

To me, one can never be an introvert until they've dealt with their shyness and their insecurities around not being like most people when it comes to wanting to be at parties etc.. It has to be a choice to be alone not a consequence.

I used to be really shy and introverted as a kid. Now I am just introverted like I can totally go out with my friends but not everyday and then i will feel tired, and I will go to bed when I get home.

you think so? i know some famous actors who are shy and yet wanted a life in front of the camera. i feel like introvert and extrovert is what you want and shy outgoing is how you act/react. like if you enjoy a book while in a bathtub all day but are outgoing you're still an introvert and if you desperately want to be a part of the popular crowd and go home and cry because you're too shy to show your personality then you're still an extrovert who's too shy to be themselves.
