Things Asians are tired of hearing!

Things Asians are tired of hearing.

As a mixed race girl, I'm so tired of hearing the same remarks and questions all the time. Here's my list of the top things Asians are tired of hearing.

1. Can you even see with your eyes half open?

- First of all, they aren't half open, since my eyelids aren't covering my pupils in any way. They're just smaller and have more of an almond shape. I'd rather have smaller eyes than eyes that make me look like I'm high on drugs all the time.(just joking, don't get butthurt ;) )

2. Don't you get tired of trying to keep your eyes open?

- No, we don't because we're not trying. It's just the genetics people! *sigh* (same answer as #1 applies?

3. Are you Chinese?

- It's a way too common misconception that all Asians are Chinese. I can understand how some Asians might have similar traits but you can't call an entire race from the same country. You wouldn't call all white people German, so please don't call all of us Chinese.

4. What do dogs taste like? / Have you eaten dogs?

- As mentioned before, we're not all Chinese and plus, dog eating isn't that common nowadays as it was a long time ago. The question makes me want to say: yes, I do all the time. My mom cooked our dogs last night. Want to try some leftovers?

5. What are you exactly?

- Being mixed, I sorta get this question because it can be hard to tell because of my Asian eyes, tanned skin and light brown hair. Yet I often wonder why it matters. Unless your going to compliment me on something, it wouldn't matter where my ethnicity lies, right? (And plus, if you het to know someone, you'll find out anyway. Asking it out of the blue makes it weird)

7. You must have a blackbelt in karate.

- No, I don't practice and master all ancient arts. (Including origami)

And last but definetly not least:

8. *After getting a good grade* "It must be because your Asian.

All Chinese people are good at everything". -Again, confusing two different terms. In general Asian parents can be stricter, but that's not everyone. It can be a good or bad thing, depending on what you're used to.

I hope you found this post somewhat useful, let me know which one was most relatable to you.
