The only black folk who have a right to moan about slavery are the ones who are about 170 years old. None out there eh? Im scottish. My people were murdered, raped and enslaved for centuries, as were the irish who the English tried to eradicate by starving them. Dont hear us or them moaning about it. Its history, its got fuck all to do with us in this day and age. there's no English people alive who commited those atrocities. Its fuckin narrow minded idiocy hating for your ancestors. People just find something to moan about and wring it out for all its worth. Its just white hate and thats the honest truth of the matter. Just like somebody you dont like you look for any reason to have a go at them. I honestly think western black people are the most hate filled racists in the world. Theyre on another level. They dekude themsekves its justified as well

I agree, very much so. Might I add, gypsies where among the first slaves to the u. s. they enslaved by Europeans for nearly a thousand years and are still to date prosecuted. France a few years ago threw out 2 million a Roma people. And a lot of Jews where enslaved as well, not white Jews but Jesus Jews. A lot of people forget that if you don't help a group assimilate , how can they? If you don't change your view as a white person , white society how can you change your country for the better. When people of color are equal to those who are white than " slavery" can stop being brought up. No doubt everyone was once enslaved in any culture. But black slavery , gypsy slavery is also recent.

Thanks. Believe me, I'm well aware that black people weren't and aren't the only enslaved people, but it's not my story or my place to tell another culture or races story that isn't part of my personal experience, so I chose to talk about what I deal with. The point you brought up is absolutely part of it, which is the recent nature of all of this. This wasn't enslavement and its affects in some 12th century, we're talking less then a century ago, blacks still couldn't sit at the front of a bus they paid to ride, and now magically everything is supposed to be fixed. I don't know how that works. As I said when slavery ended, we didn't just get to go and get a job and get an education, we were persecuted and killed for even trying to claim the rights owed and given to us. We need to work on us, fixing our own issues, but we also need others to work on ending racism and discrimination as much as humanly possible.
Well, see racism is engrained in the western world. We call people a race, but race is not real. Scientist themselves say race is not real, YET the people still use race to define people, Its a social structure to support slavery. we use the one drop rule still today , Its extremely racist. And we compare all struggles to be being black, which is racist as well
Whites where also slaves, the irish where slaves in america (3000 and treated worse then blacks) every group was mistreated so those groups built their own communities they made sure they had their own "house" in order (their neighborhoods) before society allowed them to assimlate. Thats why italians where assimlated despite the mafia, they punished any one who broke the law severly, turning them in ostricising them etc to let the rest of society know that they would not stand for it because it reflected on all of them. This is not the case for the black community and as such they still have not assimilated. If statisticly blacks are more likely to commit violent crimes then how can I trust them as a whole? Individualy sure but not as a whole, and thats the problem society is attempting people to do just that and its unsuprisingly not working, a group must first get their lives in order before society as a whole can trust them enough to let them in to theirs.
@hellionthesage everyone knows the italians where enslaved. Cool, but whites enslaved their own people just like blacks enslaved their own. Black people being more violent, really because if we go back several thousands of years white people have always been violent. The Greeks and Romans where violent foul human being who invaded lands in continents they did not belong raped, killed, stole culture, religion ( most noted Christianity). even today whites are violent your delusional is yo I think anyone is more violent than what man is capable of being
@hellionthesage... but we are talking here, (if you can focus long enough) on current issues and historical ramifications of slavery as it pertains to black people. Please inform me how talking about someone who has done racist actions towards me today is playing a victim or whining. It's happening to me by someone who is right in front of me. A constant denial by some people of this fact is turning a blind eye to an issue. Again, its not all white people if that's what you hear in your head. It's specific people. I mean what other group is being told that just to make somebody feel better, we're going to remove slavery from history books. That's actually a thing that is happening. How are we all to learn form a past if someone desires to erase it rather then deal with it.
Nothing will get better until the black community as a whole begins to take responsibility for their own actions. The black community is a group of people, who for generations have been raised to feel like victims.
This is the United States in 2016. The only person holding you down anymore is you! Get the fuck over it.
This is the United States in 2016. hundreds of unarmed black people shot by cops in 2015: Race remains the most volatile flash point in any accounting of police shootings. Although black men make up only 6 percent of the U. S. population, they account for 40 percent of the unarmed men shot to death by police this year. www.washingtonpost.com/.../
@jacquesvol My point exactly! Continue blaming police and guns for the bad behavior, and consequences for the bad behavior. Because the cops are just out hunting black men down for no reason. None of them did anything what so ever to put themselves in the position to be shot.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Personally... hearing some scumbag who the only positive thing they will do with their life is die, got smoked by the cops, or an armed citizen. That makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
Unless you have actually been a slave you have no right to act so butthurt about it especially living in the land of milk, honey and opportunity with a silver fork in your mouth (this is how the world views all Americans black and white). Slavery still exists and those black Americans that whine about slavery have no notion of slavery having never lived it and no right to appropriate actual teal life slaves pain.

Do you not understand the way compassion works? I used to volunteer in a burn unit of a hospital. I did not need to actually have been in a fire and to be scarred to understand the pain of the people I volunteered with. You can understand something, and ultimately more to the point of my take, the repercussions and affects of slavery on the generations after, without experiencing the act. To say Black American's don't understand slavery is ignorant. I would imagine you wouldn't tell a Jew of today, that they have no right talk about the Holocaust or how that has affected them even today. Keep in mind, we are in 2016, and we are still dealing with racism and discrimination, again, affects blacks today still deal with.
Considering I am talking about the historical ramifications of slavery on people of today, you kind of have to take a look at history to do so. Discrimination didn't just start in 2016, but I'm sure you're intelligent enough to know that. Everything we do today is a result of the past, present, and future from language, to technology, to food, etc. That is why we study history in school, so we can both learn from it and grow from it. I hate to break it to you, but I am not the only person on earth to ever talk about past historical issues and how they affect the present. Again, remember, you took history in school, that thing. If talking about slavery makes you uncomfortable, I'm sorry you feel that way, but this is an issue that needs discussion because although you may feel that the past died a long time ago, when there are still hate groups out there and people who still discriminate right this second, there is still much work to do.
Having been a slave I feel like black Americans have no understanding of what being a slave means therefore have no right to identify themselves by it.
I like the way nobody ever addresses the problems of the indigenous people, the real Americans who suffered and who are shoved on reservations and are largely forgotten about.
Those people didn't just suffer from slavery, they were the victims of the worst case of human genocide in history and it wasn't confined to just the United States this happened from Canada right down to Argentina. It would be nice if their problems were addressed instead of being left on a reservation somewhere.
I agree as well I always find it tragic that a whole race of people were wiped out in some countries, and those that remain are largely ignored. To me they are yet to have some kind of retribution or justice.
@nymous1234 This is so incredibly ironic that you mention Native Americans lacking in retribution or justice. Not that this is some pissing contest, but slaves, after being granted their freedom were promised 40 acres and a mule so that they could have land and begin to farm and move on with their lives for the injustices they suffered, yet the actual number given was laughable. Native American's on the other hand, at the very least were given protected lands to settle (though how can one go from an entire country to plots of land, you tell me), education funds, billions... yes, billions of dollars to tribes, but let me mention that slaves were given nothing, were not allowed to attend school, work, were killed and hunted for trying to join an America that promised them freedom, and I'm told black people are whining about nothing. How would that make you feel exactly? You want to talk injustice, have several seats.
Anon, why is it that when someone not of a group, that wants to talk about a disenfranchised group always says, "no one ever talks about the problems of (x) people," or worse, "you never hear (x) people complaining about their stories." I've attended a few seminars on the plight of Native American's, and trust me they are talking, they are spreading the message, but it is the larger population who doesn't want to listen. That is the story with every disenfranchised group. It's just easier for people to say, well they don't complain or no one says anything, because it makes it seem to them that things are okay for that group when as you point out, they are suffering too. The thing is, I'm talking about my story and the story of my people. I can't very well speak to the suffering of the Native American's which I have not, nor have my people suffered from...
It's honestly frustrating that every time I want to talk about this issue, you, others, they want me to talk about everyone else and every single problem in the world which doesn't actually address the issue I'm speaking about. If you look hard enough, you will always be able to find someone else who is suffering, but just saying to someone, well everyone else is suffering, doesn't actually address or solve any of the issues for everyone. Also, you cannot simply group all minority groups or slave groups together as one, because for each group, the how and why is different. Hence, I'm talking about one issue here and the reverberation of affects throughout our history. Think of it this way. If you had a problem and you brought it to me, would you want me to ask you to justify or relay everyone elses problems in the world before I allowed you to discuss your own?
What annoys me is Black people seem to think their ancestors had it so much worse than anyone else. Africa still has a vast majority of its indigenous people. What of the Western Hemisphere? The indigenous people have all but wiped out by guns and disease. An issue which is swept under the carpet as these people don't matter any more. Non-indigenous people should put themselves in their shoes. It's one thing to be a slave, it's an entirely different matter to have been a victim of genocide.
Thank you. I believe people need to get over the victim mentality period. I think a great example would be the Jewish community. Of all the oppressed cultures and ethnicities in the world they have suffered a GREAT DEAL more than most. However we don't seem them going around with a chip on their shoulder. They worked hard, invested in education and supported their community. They have transcended hate and never looked back.
It's one thing to identify the history and understand it. It's quite another to dwell in it. Lets move on.
you can't just move on to something that has grip on millions of people today. Look at the aborigines.. they suffered horribly, were able to forgive but nothing changes the fact that some of them will never know who they truly are. The Jewish? Dude I can write a novel telling people how their history affects them till now. That's because everything is nice and cosy for you that's not the case for other people who have actually lost a great deal back then more than now.
Ahh thank you for assuming that my life is "nice and cosy". Yes all white males live in a fantasy, pan free wonderland of unicorns and rainbows. You totally understand my life inside and out.
You know in all honesty I want equality for humanity as well. I would have the same dream as Martin Luther king for young black, white, muslim, hispanic kids to play together and live in racial harmony. However whenever somebody be it a female, homosexual, minority, etc starts playing the victim card it does NOT make me gain more respect for them. I may have some sympathy, but it absolutely does not make me appreciate them anymore since they are demanding to be SPECIAL. You can't beg and protest for respect. You earn it. I know that's not what you want to hear but it's the truth. We are never going to all get along until we put our differences aside, forgive the past (and I admit the past was horrible) and move on. You are not your ancestors and neither am I.
Only way is to stop school or movie about slavery history cuz if they did that, it will change their attitude toward other races rise up their angers. When it stopped we can get over easier. I'm still mad at people talk about slavery many years when we trying to build trust around races. Or cops got to stop shooting unarmed black people.
Someone shared a video of Dave Shapiro destroying the concept of "White Slavery" (reverse racism), it touches some of things you say about modern world. The question got removed for some reason so I thought I'd share it here with you.
You're right. I only associated part of this Take with the video I posted. But my point is, what's good for black people to insist linking black slavery with your problems today? (which is also hinted somewhere in the video).
And what good does it do to black people to remind of black slavery, when black people haven't been able to resolve the social issues and crimes of their own community?
"We cannot forget our past happened because the past is always with us. We cannot change history for the benfits of others and their feelings or when its convenient for others to do so."
What excuses have I made. I pointed out we have a lot of issues we need to solve, but like I told someone else, I can work with my people and my community. Done. However, I have worked for a company in which my black boss had to sue the company for its racists practices and she won a huge settlement which actually ended up with all of the employees being paid more. How could "I" have helped or improved that situation by talking to just other black people or other minority groups? I don't set about to be racist against myself or my people. What you have quoted me saying is absolutely still 100% true. There are schools right now trying to erase Slavery (something I mentioned in my take) from textbooks because it makes "people uncomfortable." Again, you cannot erase history to make yourself feel better. We remind ourselves about slavery, because we know where we were and how far we still have to come to get to a better place as a people.
But just as it is pointed in the video racism goes both ways. And has nothing to do with ancient slavery.
When I say black people to forget about slavery 1. I don't use it as an excuse to forget about my mistakes. because even though I'm half white I wasn't involve in slavery just as you aren't involve in slavery, common logic and 2. It's not about forgetting slavery literally, like scrap it from history books lol but you are making the correlation of reminding yourselves how long you have come to. And what good does it do, if you're current social/economic problems are still reflected in the statistics?
Like ok, you're using it as a motivational speech. But what objective impact does it have in your current problems in the black community? It has none I'm sorry to say. It will not impact on the statistics so you can't blame people to perceive this as you using it as an oppression card. I just read @OrdinaryGentleman making a similar point, yet you haven't addressed it.
I'm not one to harp in slavery, but telling black people to get over slavery is like telling all Americans to get over 9/11... it happened and it should be acknowledged.
But it shouldn't be an excuse for bad behavior or to shame people that weren't even around, when the deed was done.
Anyways. The colonel of truth in your take I agree with, but your entire post and how you came across is simply ignorant.
Ugh. They're good points, but it's all a bit afro-centric to me. There is literally not a race of people on the planet who have not been enslaved at some point or another, and as slaves go, blacks (in America) didn't even have it the worst. The Irish had it worse than the blacks.
So yeah, blacks need to get over slavery. And they need to stop acting like they're the only ones it ever happened to.

Some white people have black ancestors that were part of the slave trade too. It only takes a few generations to change skin color. The Australians even tried an insidious program of this to try and 'breed out' the native Aboriginals by making them have sex with white women/ men. Also many white people have been slaves throughout history as well.
I dare you to say that in public and not anonymously behind the computer because that was the most absurd post I read on this site. Do you have any idea how offensive this is? That's like telling Jewish people to get over the holocaust or telling americans to get over 9/11. You have no right to tell another group of people how to feel because that's just ignorant and makes you look stupid.

Once you have actually read my take, I would be glad to discuss what was actually said in it, but until then, it is more than evident that you have not actually read it...
I wouldn't forget slavery itself, as it is something that is disgusting and should be learned from. However black people aren't the only ones that were forced into slavery, nor were they the most affected. People of all races throughout history were made to be slaves, white or black, so we should all take that into consideration. We are all brothers and sisters, bonded by and through history.
are blacks still going to be bitching about slavery when hispanics and Asians are the majority in the USA? Somehow, I don't think the Chinese immigrants will give a damn.
Jews are told to never forget the Holocaust. Americans are told to never forget 9/11. The Japanese are told to never forget Hiroshima. Why should Blacks be told to forget/get over slavery?
I've discovered a lot of people haven't read the take. They just read the title and started cursing me out or name calling, but if you haven't read it, maybe you should before you form an opinion.
Can't really speak for someone else if you didn't come from that specific culture. You're not "black" so you don't know what our ancestors went through. Of course you would make something like this.. Not going to even waste my time because you might already be racist yourself.
So cleaaarly you only read the title like half the people on here throwing around insults. This take has shown me how absolutely rude, mean, and ignorant some GaG members can be. You should be embarrassed for yourself. How about you read past the title so that you can be informed as to the actual content of what I wrote.
How is that ignorance? If you know you're not than why does it bother you so much. Maybe you should learn how to make a post and not have the title in a way that you're stereotyping. The title is what captures the girls and the guys. If you haven't learned that by now there is a "help" area for people just like you.
How do you make a title "black people need to get over slavery" and assume that after reading that we'll like to continue reading your explanation. Learn how to do things because any negativity you brought towards your way you can only blame yourself.
Not to mention that slavery is a raceless crime as old as the human race. All races have enslaved people of their own race and of other races, and that includes black people enslaving white people.

Well said on the first comment wealth and success is given it created by hard work.
I like that take - It is well thought out and argued - I wouldn't have too many issues with the conclusions reached.
The question got removed for some reason so I thought I'd share it here with you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rrxZRuL65wQI'm sorry "white privilege".
There's just no reason in putting the race/oppression card in modern days. Specially to cover your shit.
Maybe you should actually read my last paragraph. You seem to be speaking about something outside of my topic.
This is a lot of an excuse isn't it?
Wow this wasn't what I was expecting and I'm glad I read everything you had to say. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing that with everyone.
Bitch shut up
@isthatarose who are you talking to? None of us have said anything about you or to you for that matter.
Read. The. Take. Not just the title.
Sorry but it was a lot of talking :/
I've discovered a lot of people haven't read the take. They just read the title and started cursing me out or name calling, but if you haven't read it, maybe you should before you form an opinion.
more like whites need to stop thinking that they're the superior race.
More like blacks need to stop thinking everything we do is to hurt them...
@AleDeEurope that's mostly in movies
Are you sure? Just take a walk around GAGland and enjoy the comments from black people blaming white because their steak didn't have enough salt.
@AleDeEurope... my dad acts the same way.
@AleDeEurope walk around and get shot. that's what's up.
@DabieberRoyalty :-* :-* :-*
all these people downvoting me... tell me, how does does the dirt taste?
i recently realized something-white men are known to have used other ethnic groups to do what they wouldn't... couldn't do themselves
Can't really speak for someone else if you didn't come from that specific culture. You're not "black" so you don't know what our ancestors went through. Of course you would make something like this.. Not going to even waste my time because you might already be racist yourself.
👍👍👍👍👍
Its not an insult if i am only stating true facts , stop making everything so deep.
Not to mention that slavery is a raceless crime as old as the human race. All races have enslaved people of their own race and of other races, and that includes black people enslaving white people.
So does that make it any better or worse. No. Slavery is still wrong no matter who does it.
