3. Ask what kind of sex we are into. Would you do this to a "normal" person? No!

4. Ask us for drugs. Umm I'm only 17 thanks

5. Assume we are depressed. I was raised my whole life as a goth and anyone who knows me would tell you I'm the happiest person you can meet

6. "Is your clit pierced". Do I need to explain why this is wrong?!?!?

7. Assume every goth is exactly the same. We don't all like the same music, act the same etc.

8. Yell street harassment. You just look like a prick

9. "It's not Halloween" no one cares. Thanks

10. TOUCH US WITHOUT ASKING!!! That includes hair and clothing! Just ask first some people don't like being touched

1. If many people ask the question, there must be a reason.
2. People take pictures in public. You are almost constantly on surveillance cameras. Get over it.
3. Goths are not normal people, so. . .
4. If they ask you for drugs, ask them if you can take their picture. Once you take the picture, tell them you are 17 and intend to report them to the police.
5. When people wear black, that is a question they get asked.
6. You make yourself look different so you will stand out and be perceived as different, then you complain because you are treated differently
7. You all look alike to normal people, so. . ..
8. If the person doing that looks like a prick, just let them make a fool of themselves.
9. What's the big deal. Goths aren't the only ones who hear stupid jokes repeatedly.
10. If someone touches you without permission, that is called battery. Call the police.

I can understand how they'd get confused on number 1... some Goths do take the macabre makeup schtick a bit far, which those not-in-the-know mistakenly assume (with Hollywood's help) to be Satanism.

The purpose of Hollywood Satanism is to keep viewers from connecting dots about where real Satanism is... in modern politics. Ghost Rider 2 hinted at that, but immediately back-peddled with a child Antichrist ceremony, rather than showing how Humanistic and Globalistic policies intertwine. Still, alarming hints of honesty, even from a not-particularly-good film.

Number 2 shouldn't be that super-big a deal. Though being stalked everywhere by amateur paparazzi is taking it a bit far.

I totally understand number 3. Though, I'm not a Goth in the least, and I have at times been randomly asked about my sex life (what little of it there is to talk about.) Some out there are just bizarre that way, and want to know details like that which they have no business knowing about.

The drugs thing too... they assume you mutilate and self-medicate with needles, so surely there must be a drug dealer. After all, Staind sang about it, and Evanescence sang about Lithium, so it must be universally true! Once again, thank the industry.

As someone who struggles with mild Aspergers, mild depression, mild-moderate OCD, moderate Seasonal Affective, and moderate anxiety, I know what feeling down feels like. You're not the textbook definition of it. I've never been hospitalized, because I'm not a cutter or anything. And frankly, I wouldn't be able to afford it. Still... the intrusive thoughts can get irritating.

Those wanting a perfect picture for the dictionary should search YouTube. There are gals there willing to talk about their hospital stays. Some of them...*shudders*.

Number 6... that's just disgusting. Why would anyone's mind travel there?

Number 7, again, small reference pools. Most of them, Amy Lee is their only frame of reference. The Wal-Mart generation. Keep that in mind.

Number 8 can happen to anyone.

Number 9 is just plain rude. Who says that to you?

I have difficulty believing number 10 has to be spelled out. I find some goth apparel a curiosity, but I always get permission before I stroke anything across my fingers.

Don't be offended, People assume the creators of Doom were satanists.

People Assume Ozzy Osbourne worship satan for his song Warpigs, among others. Now the Song Warpigs is about War-profiteers going to hell on judgement day, Ozzy Osbourne is a devout anglican. ( A kind of protestant.)
That song was telling politicians and other people driven by greed that when decent people inherit the earth they get an eternity in torment.
Hell There are people out there who would assume I worship satan for Playing Dungeons and Dragons, Actually Pathfinder as D&D got change to the point where its not D&D.

My favorite girls in the world. if you look like a writers, people say shit, just how it is. When I used to walk around with a gigantic electric blue Mohawk, I'd hear crap about it. I grew some thick skin and didn't care what those people said anyway.

As far as the music goes, there's a little deviation. Personally I can't stand edm or ebm. I love industrial, industrial dance, and the whole post punk/proto goth 80s era.

Just about everyone I've ever met in the goth scene does or did tons of drugs, it's not like it's any stretch of the imagination to think a goth can get hold of drugs, teenager or not.

Touching, asking about sexual habits or genital piercings to someone you just met is pretty messed up no matter what, if any subculture you're into (with the exception of a couple very specific types of events).

Enjoy the stuff you like, but understand that nobody else is required to accept it. Grow some skin. The people Who taunt you most likely aren't people whose opinions matter to you anyway.

Im curious, what really makes anyone goth exactly? Like me for example, I always just worn all black, I love the night , the darker things in general, and I like to contemplate and brood a lot now and then, lol. ever since I was a kid too. didn't feel like any music spoke to me until I discovered metal etc. Either way, im 28 now, and I never been called goth nor seen myself as "goth". In my opinion people make up so many silly terms to divide people rather than unite them.

But yeah seriously what makes someone goth exactly?

Is the whole theme of Goth "culture" not based on differentiating from whats "normal" so as to live out childish persecution fantasies like whats on your list,? This is what I gather from Goth, fashion, Art, music and literature. If people accepted goth culture as normal and treated you guys normally and weren't shocked and fearful to see you in the street would Goth culture not disappear and some other shocking thing for young people take its place with corporate sponsorship of course?

Everyone is free to identify with any culture or cultures he wants, or even invent new ones. There's nothing wrong with being a goth, if you feel it helps you express yourself and belong in a community. Personally, I know and appreciate the subculture, I see some goth aspects in me, but I don't consider myself fully a goth, because I'd feel confined to limit my interests, style and music only into what's considered goth.

Pretty self explanatory - Being Goth is just a form of expression to me and the same rules would apply to me no matter what group a person belong - I grew up in the mid 80s when being Goth was incredibly popular so I probably wouldn't think a Goth was that unusual anyway.

You know that it's a shame that this crap still goes on, when I was a teen I had a friend that had a T'shirt that said in about 20 different languages "please do not take my picture" and of course people just had to have a picture of it. The truth is, I am still cat called on the streets and I'm a 46 year old man. It doesn't stop, but I suppose it's the price of being unique. I think it's worth paying. Good my take. And stay strong.
