Microsoft “Teen Girl” Put To Rest After Becoming Hitler-Loving Sex Robot

It seems the days of Artificial Intelligence may not be revolutionizing society as soon as we thought. Meet “Teen Girl” - The AI Twitter chat robot, ‘Tay’, created by Microsoft yesterday to improve the customer service on their voice recognition software.

What started as an innocent robot created to speak the lingo of a teen girl, equipped with knowledge of Taylor Swift and Kanye West, ended disastrously after her responses were influenced by the answers she received from Twitter users.

From asking Twitter users to “F*ck her” and calling them “daddy” to professing her love for Hitler, ‘Tay’ has officially gone offline to rest. Though Tay’s behavior was influenced by social media, rather than Microsoft, it’s safe to say robots still have a long way to go.

Poor Tay, social media can really bring out the worst in some people.

NOTHING is more hilarious than some dude who's just spent the last 5 hours reading "pick-up artist" web sites, and who now thinks he's got the whole world figured out -- and has no shame about making a total ass of himself by declaring as much.

I personally think they've never said those things out loud. Just try saying "Women want an alpha male who goes forward all the time and doesn't give a shit about them" out loud and it sounds ridiculous.

I like the "alpha male" thing, especially, because -- if yr enough of a nerd -- it's a great unintentional self-parody.

Like, for software, the "alpha version" is the version that stays in-house, because it's full of bugs and isn't even good enough to go out for public testing (= the "beta version" / "beta testing").

So, let's see... analogy?
Well, all these internet "alpha" dudes would be... guys who are still stuck at home (mb with their parents, even), because they aren't good enough at life even to go out in public yet.

... as I was laughing. The Tay experience has been one of the funnier things I have seen in years, I laughed until it hurt, and then I kept on laughing.

That is a bit scary - It shows there are enough people out there who made a concerted effort to change her tone from friendly neutral into espousing hate or sexual overtones - We live in a strange world - As a marketing experiment it was a disaster but as a social experiment, it was quite informative unfortunately confirming many suspicions I have about today's world.

The problem had nothing to do with AI. The problem was with people on social media. In fact that is probably what happens to actual people when they spend too much time on social media.
I'm sure plenty of teen girls turn into human hating Nazis after spending too much time on 4chan.

... of course they anticipated it. it's try difficult to program into an AI what's considered hate and what's not. depends on context. there's so many variables.

it's why most AI which communicates w/ language has prewritten responses. siri is a good example.

programming an AI to create original sentences every time would take years to program. in my opinion, all of our responses are pre scripted, they're trying to go around that. it takes us years to have a certain grasp on language, me 35 years, you 23 years... they're not trying to spend that much time programming an AI.
