In League of Legends a 5v5 game this principal is easy to observe. There's the concept of ELO Hell people who think that the only reason that they're not ranked higher is because their teammates suck.

They can see mistakes that others make but they can't see their own because they make excuses for them or they don't have the knowledge to see their own mistakes. In truth they are ranked where they should be but they don't want to do the hard work to improve their play it's easier to blame the teammates. There are teams that totally suck sometimes but a good player will play at a higher level and win over 50% of his games and climb even if he gets bad teams from time to time. Any good player can start a new account and climb through the ranks that others say are "holding them back" but these people can't because they're not actually good. So it ends in people insulting each other and whining and everybody playing worse etc.

I think similar things can be seen between genders, it's common on this site. People who haven't had success in dating or have had bad experiences blame the opposite gender instead of seeing if there's anything they could improve about themselves. Improving yourself is hard, whining is easy, so that's the option these people prefer. But in the end the people who realise, accept, and then overcome the tough problems and challenges will live more fullfilled, happy and successful lives than the ones that sulk and never change.

Trying to overcome the things that are holding you back is hard af I'm not saying its easy but in the end this behaviour is just another excuse to do nothing and that will just mean stagnation, unhappiness and regrets.
