The 2nd Amendment is and Should Remain a Citizen's Right!

Now I'm writing this because I noticed an increase in the discussing regarding Gun laws and more importantly the 2nd amendment, after what happened in Florida. This is a short MyTake about exactly that.

The reason for the 2nd amendment is to allow private citizens to protect their person, family, and property.

This was made at a time when a say farmer had no way of contacting any type of authority in any realistic time frame. What is he to do if bandits are nearing his house? Spray them with water? Throw grain at them? Thus a gun allows him to keep such dangers away.

Nowadays despite having phones it still takes the police minutes to arrive, by which point if the criminal had serious intentions then it has likely already taken place. If he didn't have serious intentions then even showing him you're armed would deescalate the situation. So having a gun allows you to stop the threat yourself whether by shooting or not or to delay the criminal to give the police enough time to arrive.

The second reason Americans are allowed guns is in case of a tyrannical government taking power or a foreign invasion — citizens are expected to form militias and fight.

Many argue that militias would have no chance against the US military, which may be true, however thinking logically, who has more chance to stop such a government;

A — Many large and small groups of armed citizens in militias. B

Citizens with kitchen knives at best.

However consider that America has never been ruled by a tyrannical or an otherwise oppressive government.

The 2nd Amendment is and Should Remain a Citizen's Right!

Let's look at some Tyrannical Governments:

For example:

In 1959-1961 China due to drought, poor weather, and bad government policy we see;

1957: 6,884,000 Deaths.

1958: 7,826,000 Deaths.

1959: 9,717,000 Deaths.

1960: 16,964,000 Deaths.

1961: 9,403,000 Deaths.

1962: 6,671,000 Deaths.

1963: 6,851,000 deaths.

The Average number of deaths from 1950-1970 was 8,140,335 including the years of the Famine and the average with the years of the famine taken out was 7,492,390 a year.

The average number of deaths for the years of the famine was 12,028,000 a year. Thus from the average from 1950 - 1958 and 1962 - 1970 compared to the 3 years of famine an additional ~ 4,535,600 people died a year. Yet the estimated number of Deaths attributed to the Famine is ~15 million people.

The Chinese government says itself that the disaster was about 30% Natural Causes and 70% Mismanagement.

From 1968 to 2011 in America there were 1.4 million firearm deaths.

Meaning that almost 4 and a half decades of America's hundreds of millions of privately own firearms killed an equivalent of roughly 31% of the number of people who died in China in just 1 year because in large part — a tyrannical government.

Looking at the same country, at Tienanmen square officially the Chinese government states that 241 people were killed and almost 7,000 wounded while the US government estimates 10,454 deaths and 40,000 wounded.

In Soviet Russia because of a famine caused also by government mismanagement we see

that in;

1931: 3,090,000 Deaths.

1932: 3,077,000 Deaths.

1933: 5,239,000 Deaths.

1934: 2,659,000 Deaths.

The average number of Deaths/Year from 1927 to 1932 and 1934 to 1940 was 2,729,000 yearly.

Meaning in 1 year in just 1 Soviet Republic an excess of ~ 2,510,000.

Meaning once again, America's 4 and half decades of hundreds of millions of guns have an equivalent of 56%.

But this is only compared to Soviet Russia, millions more died in the Republics of Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

As a result of this famine because of bad government policy an estimated minimum of 3 million men, women, and children died. Most estimates range between the 4 and 7 million mark!

My great grandmother for example lived in Kharkov, Ukraine. In her city during the famine 120,000 people starved to death out of a population of ~600,000.

When walking on the streets one can see the bodies of those who died lying on the road and sidewalk, as well as the occasional person falling dead. People ate their house pets and some parents killed one of their numerous children to feed the rest.

At the same exact time while the Crude Death Rate increased from an average of 24.5 Deaths per 1,000 people to 51.0/1,000 in 1933!

That's 51 people out of every thousand people across all of Russia..If that were America today that'd be 16,575,000 people dead in 1 year.

In comparison in the United States the Crude Death rate per 1,000 people was ~11.0 in the 1930s.

Now, I think the point about Tyrannical Governments is quite clear, they tend to cause more deaths and people live in much worse conditions. The deaths are not worth the quality of life.

As a by the way a 'quick' comparison of Murder Rates and Guns per 100 people, (Please Look Very Carefully At all Parameters);

Brazil: 8 Guns per 100 People. — Murder Rate per 100,000 Residents: 26.74. — Total Number of Murders: 55,574. — Size of Population: 208,733,102

South Africa: 12.7 Guns per 100 Residents. — Murder Rate per 100,000 People: 34.27. — Total Number of Murders; 18,673. — Size of Population: 54,956,900

Russia: 8.9 Guns per 100 Residents. — Murder Rate per 100,000 People: 11.31. — Total Number of Murders: 16,232. — Size of Population: 144,526,636

Colombia: 5.9 Guns per 100 Residents. — Murder Rate per 100,000 People: 26.50. — Total Number of Murders: 12,782. — Size of Population: 49,587,941

^^^^ Take a Look ^^^^

I will now in fact provide a general example why the biggest advocates for the 2nd Amendment should be Women!

The scenario is something like this;

A woman walks in a park at night, going home. She's punched and collapses. No idea what's going on... A large man jumps onto her and starts trying to take her pants off. She manages to land a lucky hit or push him off a bit giving her a few seconds and she stands up and runs a dozen meters (30 or so feet). She looks back and sees him rise and start charging her.

Now in scenario 1 she is unarmed, she either runs as best she can hoping to outrun him and stay alive and untouched, or is immediately taking down, raped and potentially killed. The next day the top local story is of a 19 year old College student raped and killed in a park for example..

OR.

Scenario 2: She is armed, she draws her handgun and fires multiple times hitting him at least once, enough to stop him. He may or may not be killed but she is left almost unharmed. Or alternatively he still manages to rape and kill her but not only did her chance of survival increase but the chance of him being caught increases as the gunshot was heard throughout the neighborhood.

As it's often said; “God made men, but Sam Colt made them equal.”

Well considering women are often thought of as the weaker sex, the gun makes a woman just as capable of defending herself and others as it does a man, as compared to the time when men would be slicing each other with swords or hitting each other with rocks and bats — when it largely depended on upper body strength and size.

Writing this I have further entrenched myself in my Pro-Gun Stance.

I don't think I would be able to find a many generational American who can say that his relatives starved to death because of the government. That they have a relative who died in a Gulag or a relative who had to escape from a Gulag. Nor relatives who had their business and property confiscated despite their uncles and fathers having fought and died in the Red Army with a firm belief in the promise of the Communist revolution. Bad people exist everywhere, but America's 1st and 2nd Amendment mean that Americans live freely despite all the murders, while many other peoples live a less free life with often even more murders.

Hope you consider changing your stance.
