Its that time again. The day the world, and especially my city pauses. The world stops again. To remember the events of September 11th, 2001. Every year I post this and I hate to sound redundant but this is personal to me.

Where were you?

Where were you when the 1st tower was hit? the 2nd? Where were you when they collapsed?

What is time. Time is something intangible. Time is something which can't be changed, or stopped. Time is something which defines each second, minute, hour. Time stands still for no one, And time can't change actions.

I was in queens on deliveries while it happened so the view I had was like the first picture but after the collapse, I saw fire trucks and volunteer fireman from every district heading that way, I was told to just deliver what I could from my dispatch and come back to Suffolk county. The Long Island expressway was closed at every entrance going westbound my whole trip back and only allowed emergency services on it. I’ll never forget that day

Yeah some people are still alive because of a change in decision that day like the only person that didn’t go to his company that day because he was taking his kid to school that day but everyone died in that building of Cantor Fitzgerald

Living in northern Virginia and working in Washington, DC, I got an almost first hand view.

My boss came in an told me that a plane had hit one of the twin towers. We went into his office and watched television. We saw the other tower hit. Then we continued to watch when a reporter came on to say the Pentagon had been hit.

It was funny, we continued to watch the television - even though we were in a 7 story building with a view over to the Potomac and the Pentagon. Suddenly it hit me and I looked out the window and saw the flames pouring out of the Pentagon on the opposite side from our vantage point.

My boss said, "Oh my God!"

So we watched for a while and then they ordered us to evacuate the building. I opted to remain, figuring that the traffic would be awful. I waited till about 2 or 3 then went down to the garage and got my car.

The streets were empty and I was able to make the ride home in only 30 minutes, driving right past the Pentagon - on Rt 110 - on my way. (The damage was on the opposite side.)

It was a stunning day, but in a strange way I was not surprised. I had dealt with terrorism and unconventional warfare issues over the course of my career and knew such an attack was a theoretical possibility. So I found myself more impressed by the tactics and it only hit home later the lives that had been lost.

One of those lives, it turned out, was the husband of a friend of mine. That suddenly made it less surreal and more concrete.

I was born a year after 9/11. So to answer your question, I'll talk about my aunt, who's story is far more interesting and disconcerting.

On September 11, 2001, my aunt was visiting Belgium. I can't remember the details; I forget why she was visiting and I can't name the specifics of the trip. I will have to ask her later.

Anyways, she was visiting Belgium, Brussels, to be exact, and happened to be in a bar. As the TV in the bar played the scene of two planes crashing into the twin towers, a CHEER arose from the customers. Where you'd expect silence, darkness, sadness, or sympathy was celebration. As terror gripped my aunt's heart, she soon came to realize that the people around her were HAPPY thousands of Americans had died and that the country had suffered a terrorist attack.

This serves as a reminder. There are people who want to destroy us and slaughter us because of our nationality. You can't assume everyone will value your life; because most won't. America is a pretty great and developed country. We enjoy many freedoms, and despite it's flaws, the country's system does not need to be scrapped and rebuilt.

For those who don't understand the extremity and value of 9/11, just consider this. 9/11 represents all of the people who hate you and refuse to see you as an individual. There are people out there who hate Americans so much, that upon seeing two towers collapse on thousands of people after being struck by planes flown by terrorists, they cheer. They celebrate. 9/11 represents one of the biggest evils of humanity, and a large scale hate crime.

Can you imagine, watching your country attacked by terrorists on international television, as the strangers around you cheer and celebrate?

It makes me sick. The biggest message from 9/11 is the love and the hate; it United our country and showcased what some culture's hatred for our country can lead to. Don't ignore it. 9/11 is a powerful example, not just a terrible catastrophy.

I feel really sad when I think about this event, in fact that's not the only emotion I feel. I feel horrified, upset, and just angry in the way that people will dismiss the topic sometimes so quickly. They can't put themselves in the shoes of people who were in a panic, who were trapped, who couldn't breathe, who were crushed, who were afraid, who were trying to save others or themselves, the feeling of absolute realization that they with die without a doubt, in on painful way or another. Imagine, making a decision, to face the hot flames and smoke, or escape out the window and plunge to you're death, where your body explodes on impact, parts flying to nearby buildings, corpse unrecognizable if there is one at all. Those disturbing photos, can you imagine falling through the air, knowing that in seconds, you with die, and people are watching you, filming you, photographing you, turning away, and standing there, getting to hear a sickening thud on the ground? I cannot grasp why people will not even give this event the time of day, won't put down their phones, can't even have a thoughtful moment of silence for all the victims of this tragedy.

I was living in the Philippines when this terrible tragedy happened. The local news breaks in the Philippines were so poorly televised. Watching CNN's Headline News & BBC gave me a clearer picture of what happened. For nearly 2 hours since I 1st tuned in on the news, I couldn't reach my immediate family in California. Then, my parents called me to assure me that each of them were okay. They were just as troubled as I felt. My dad & brothers were immediately called to duty while I was having a conference call with them. I felt so sad, puzzled & angry for a very long time.

Now I wasn't in New York when this happened, I'm not even American. But it definitely changed the world forever and I was definitely impacted in my small world.

Things were just so much different before 9/11. People were a lot more carefree and naive.

I recently listened to some of the dialogue from the air traffic control and pilots on 9/11 and you can tell that no one ever expected something like this to happen.

I was only 12 when it happened, but I will never forget. It's crazy to think that this is now being taught as part of history because it still plays in my mind most days.

Signifies a lot of memories and emotions. Feeling confused, angry, sad, hopeful. Thinking about the first responders who were damn heroes that day. People today say thank you for your service, but that period of time was at a whole new level. Tons of people inspired to become first responders to help or join the military to fight back. Must have been quite shocking for Americans I imagine. These things hit a lot harder when its closer to home, when it could realistically have been your loved ones that died...

Its sad that regular civilian america had to pay the price for its governments reckless policies... But that seems to be the way it works. I saw a presentation from engineers explaining how it was an inside job. Seismic records from Palisades showed stuff happened before the planes made impact. The official investigations admitting that no building had ever been destroyed like that from "accidental" impacts like plane crashes. The evidence shows that the buildings were demolished with thermate. The official story said World Trade center 7 was destroyed by fires, even though it looked exactly like a controlled demolition, and no fire could destroy the entire base structure for a freefall collapse like that. The official story is physically impossible. Who murdered these people, and why? The why is easy, an excuse for endless war and the profits. The who would be someone who can benefit. Dick Cheney is a suspect.

You might like to contact the media sources you watch, asking them to cover those issues you mentioned.
That's one of the reasons a lot of people don't watch/read traditional news sources anymore. So much of their time is spent on interviewing people and just asking their opinion. Their time would be better spent talking about what's going on in the world, just like you mentioned. 😉

Also, it's the ANNIVERSARY OF 9/11 IN AMERICA. What on Earth do you expect the media to report on? Setting aside my own personal outrage for a second here, the media reports on what it considers sensational, what will draw in viewers/readers, what is considered new and unexpected and will appeal to people. Most Americans are most concerned about the goings on in their own country, what affects them and their families--not the happenings in other countries. It's not a sign they don't care, but do you really think most other places dealing with their own tragedies gave much of a thought to the U. S? We all focus on our own, what directly impacts us, and that's why even in this country people who aren't affected by tragedies don't seem to understand or care as much until it hits home, hurts them or someone they love. I was in elementary school. When I got out of school both of the twins have already fallen. When I got home I watched the news all day with my family. I didn't know what the twins were until that day so I learned something. Ever since then I've always drawn them on a piece of paper. Whenever I felt like scribbling on a piece of paper when I was bored. Like when you draw random things on a piece of paper when you are in school. I still remember very well. I live on the West Coast and by the time I got up in the morning, it had already happened and I saw it when I logged onto the internet. I saw people crying around town that day and it was such a tremendously sad event. And the impact that it has made even since then.
