Modern Day Political Sentiments That Are Completely Bizzare

Back in the good ol' days, discussing politics wasn't so...weird. It was always controversial, but never this weird.

Gone are the days of political sentiments on sane issues(like marijuana legalization, abortion, capital punishment, etc.), and now we've entered the Twilight Zone when it comes to politics. The 2010s have brought some bizarre political sentiments which make no sense at all, and this is true for all aspects of the political spectrum.

Let's explore these comical, non-nonsensical sentiments which take place these days, and I see these sentiments everywhere-the internet, television, and even in person. I'm also speaking primarily from the United States of America.

Sentiment: The claim that our media is purposely pushing "fake news."

Modern Day Political Sentiments That Are Completely Bizzare

Truth be told, there has been fake news since the beginning of time. Those cheap Tabloid Magazines you see on the magazine rack in the grocery store are often examples of fake news. Many websites on the internet are full of fake news. With this being said, it would be quite surprising if we saw fake news on any major broadcasting channel, or big time newspaper.

Biased news? Absolutely. News is supposed to be biased these days. However, the claim that it's fake is a bit ridiculous. Most of the time, the story is completely true, but it's just twisted to make us feel a certain way about a topic. Most news broadcasting companies could find themselves in serious hot water from a legal standpoint if they published, or displayed fake news stories.

Sentiment: The claim there is more than one biological sex.

Does anyone else think this resembles the Pokemon Unown?
Does anyone else think this resembles the Pokemon Unown?

When it comes to the entire animal kingdom, including humans, there are males, and females. Xs, and Os. Right, and left. Night, and day. Jack, and Jill. It's as simple as that, right?

Not so fast! Apparently, elementary school level biology is a tough concept for adults to grasp. There are now activists claiming there are "infinite" sexes, in the world. Of course, when you ask these geniuses what sexes exist besides males, and females, they can't give you an answer(Spoiler alert: It's because males, and females are the only two biological sexes).

Some of them are more clever than this though. Some will say "of course there are only two biological sexes, but there are more than two genders." The problem with this statement, is the word "gender" is synonymous with sex when it comes to medical identity. They are used interchangeably, and there is no legitimate difference between the two.

This isn't to say transgender rights aren't important, because I fully support their freedom to do as such. But whenever they transition(notice the prefix trans), they are either male, or female at the end of the day.

Sentiment: The opinion that prisons should be banned.

Modern Day Political Sentiments That Are Completely Bizzare

I can't believe this one is actually a thing(I want to say I started hearing this around the beginning of 2018).

The other ones on the list I can maybe see the point of view they were trying to convey(even if it was worded poorly), but this one actually comes straight out of lunacy.

Correct me if I'm crazy, but I'm thankful that murderers, rapists, child predators, serial thieves, and many other vile criminals I can think of are locked behind bars. In my woke opinion, I don't think it would be a wise decision to allow a serial killers loose, and expect he/she to "turn their life around." I have an inkling that could turn out pretty bad(though the makers of The Purge series would have another movie).

"But not all criminals are bad people"

True

I would agree with prison reform, and even more-so agree there are people in prison for no legitimate reason. However, to put a nationwide ban on prisons is a completely extreme solution to a problem with much easier solutions.

Sentiment: The claim that a fetus isn't living.

A non-living object inside a woman's womb.
A non-living object inside a woman's womb.

What makes this one stand out from the rest of the list, is the same people who make this claim, have no problem admitting that a mother can feel her fetus kicking when she's pregnant....or don't mind admitting that when a woman has a miscarriage, she loses the fetus...

Do I need to say more? The medical field has concluded that a fetus develops a heart beat roughly 4-6 weeks after a woman becomes pregnant(generally about a month). Therefore, a fetus is living.

Now, whether you want to consider a fetus as a legitimate living being to be protected by the law, that's up for debate. However, a fetus is living, and there is no debate there.

Sentiment: Prisoners should be given equal rights to everyone else

Modern Day Political Sentiments That Are Completely Bizzare

Similar to the whole "banning prisons" nonsense, this is more of a very recent sentiment I began hearing from some people on my Facebook Friends list(maybe 2018ish was when I first saw it).

Some people are actually advocating(wait for it, wait for it...) that prisoners have equal rights to everyone who is not in prison. I've actually seen some people call people out(like me) for my "freedom privilege"(which I fully boast upon-I am privileged because I am free for the most part).

You know how to avoid losing your rights in prison? Try to avoid....committing crimes. Once again, I realize that there are exceptions where well-meaning people are in prison, and some people are in prison for petty reasons, but most people are in prison because they committed a serious offense against society. And with that, I see nothing wrong with losing a big chunk of your freedom. I'm thankful that child molesters won't ever be able to become teachers. I'm thankful that murderers are..well...secluded from most of society. I'm thankful that a serial robber isn't allowed to work at the bank with my checking account. You know...those kinda things...ya dig?'

Sentiment: America was founded as a Christian nation, so therefore, our laws should revolve around Christianity

Modern Day Political Sentiments That Are Completely Bizzare

This sentiment might not be worded exactly as follows, but most of you probably get my jist: Someone claims that the United States of America was founded on Christian principles, and these same people who make this claim justify making laws which revolve around Christian values.

First of all, our country was "founded" because thousands of Europeans slaughtered thousands of Native Americans. I'm not seeing how we were founded on "Christian" principles. Second of all, our country has long established a freedom of religion. Third of all, people are allowed to practice any religion(or lack thereof) anyway, so therefore, our laws literally aren't allowed to revolve around any religion(not just Christianity).

This sentiment is rather outdated, but at the same time, is totally false on all measures.

Sentiment: Calling people "Nazis" because they support immigration reform

Modern Day Political Sentiments That Are Completely Bizzare

Once again, this one is a very recent sentiment, probably in the last year, or so,

And once again, it's coo-coo for Coco Puffs.

For the record, I could debate that we take immigration way too seriously in this country, but to be fair, I don't think that solely because someone supports immigration reform automatically means that person is a "Nazi."

I mean...there are virtually no Nazis here in the United States of American. The definition of a Nazi is someone who is a member of the "National German Workers' Party." Even if someone is a white supremacist, that doesn't make them a Nazi. That just makes them a white racist...but if that white racist never joined the Nazi Party in Germany(which, I'm not even sure exists anymore), then he/she is not a Nazi.

Sentiment: You're not a true Feminist because...(Insert Opinion)

Modern Day Political Sentiments That Are Completely Bizzare

I'm a teacher who fully supports teacher unions. However, if I come across another teacher whom doesn't support teacher unions, would that mean he/she isn't a "real' teacher? Well, of course not.

You might be chuckling at this point, but the modern day "Feminist" movement accuses women of not being "real" Feminists, simply because some Feminists disagree with each other on issues. The only way this could actually be true is if a woman made statements degrading women, and their rights, and then claimed to be a Feminist(in this case, she wouldn't be a Feminist). However, if a woman has a differing opinion on abortion, gay rights, war, economics, religion, etc., that doesn't mean that woman isn't a Feminist. This fallacy is known as the No True Scotsman Fallacy.

I would argue the opposite-if someone is telling a woman how she should think, that doesn't make that person a real Feminist, because you're telling her how she should think.

Sentiment: Race issues are class issues

The official
The official "Race issues are class issues" guy.

Without going deep into the whole racial debate revolving around white privilege in the United States of America, I don't think it's too far of a reach to assume that the most populated race in a country has some degree of privilege(as a Caucasian myself, I will admit this).

With that being said, race issues aren't solely class issues. It is true that race, and socioeconomic class correlate with each other, but it's not the end all, be all when it comes to racial privileges. Person A of Race A can be wealthy, but still face adversities that Person B of Race B who is in poverty won't have to worry about. It might seem silly, but a rich black man might be stereotyped more negatively than a poor white person.

Either way, there is no way to legitimate argue that one issue(class) is exactly the same as another issue(in this case, race).

Finally....

Just quit assuming crap.

This isn't a particular sentiment, but people assume just because you're a race, in a socioeconomic class, part of a religion, a political party, or affiliation of any type, you have to fall into one big category. And that's not the case.
