How To Play the Hand You've Been Dealt

In the game of life, we're all dealt a hand. Sometimes it looks like we've been dealt the worst hand ever and other times it seems like we've been dealt a royal flush. At times we worry so much about what the next player is holding that we miss out on the possibilities in our own hand. What we often forget is this: It's less about the cards you've been dealt and more about how you play them!

Pokerface! Never Let Em' See You Sweat

How To Play the Hand You've Been Dealt

You ever play cards with someone and know automatically that they've been dealt a crappy hand by the look on their face? Like they look defeated before the game even begins? And most times they end up losing. Why? Because they play like they've already lost. They don't know how to put on a game face! In life, we face many obstacles. We go through trails and tribulations. The key is to go in with an optimistic attitude. You have to go into every situation with your game face on and with positive thinking. If you go in thinking that you will fail, then you will! You know the saying "Never let them see you sweat" right? Well think of the "them" in this instance as all the problems and adversaries you face in life. So how's YOUR pokerface?

Focus on Your Own Hand

We all know that one person that tries to sneak a peak at everyone else's cards. They feel like it'll give them an advantage. Too often we worry about what the next person has or what the next person is doing. We get so caught up comparing ourselves and our lives to others, that we sometimes miss out on the good things in our own lives. Everyone is different. We all have problems. We all face tough situations. But we also all have great moments too. We reach goals and accomplishments and we thrive. Just because it may not be on the same time frame as the next person doesn't mean that it isn't coming. We just have to be ready to receive it. And we can't do that when we're so focused on the next person. Eyes on your own hand!

Don't Be Afraid to Put a Card Down to Pick Up Another

How To Play the Hand You've Been Dealt

I'm guilty of this myself when playing cards. I'll get a card in my hand that I feel holds more value and I keep plucking and throwing everything down but that card. I think "I'm gonna pluck a card that will go great with this card and give me the upper hand." I'm usually stuck with it in the end and it usually costs me. In life we hold onto things that may not always be good for us. We want to believe that if we wait it out, things will change. And while that may be the case sometimes, most times it's not. Holding on to things that we were meant to let go of can and usually does stunt our personal growth. By holding on to these things we miss opportunities to experience other things. Sometimes it pays to just let go. We open so many doors when we finally get rid of things that may be holding us back. Letting go allows us to pick up bigger and better things. And sometimes we don't even realize it because it can look so simple. It all depends on how you look at it. Remember, an Ace is both a 1 and an 11.

The point of this take is to offer a different yet fun, positive way to look at life. I know first hand how hard life can be, and how it feels to feel like you've been dealt a bad hand. It's not a good feeling, but the key is to stay positive. Stay optimistic. Don't ever count yourself out. In the game of life, the rules are constantly changing. You never know when the Joker that you're holding will become the wild card!
