The same goes if a woman tends to be too "EASY"minded or just flirtatious, jumping from one guy to another > AND HONESTLY IT'S THEIR BUSINESS IF IT MAKES THEM HAPPY LET THEM DO SO, but BUT it makes men think that ALL women might be like that, instead, we are so colorful, we are all so different, why should we LOCK our minds and describe a hole SEX with one adjective and limit ourselves in using words... we should just understand the term "individuality" we are not all the same...
I think it's wrong to ask the question, "who is at fault for the objectification of women?" Rather, I believe the question should be, who is objectifying the woman? In which case you must make an accusation against a specific person and or entity.
It may seem like a nit pick of an answer, but the subtle difference is necessary given that not all women are objectified and not everyone is objectifying. Additionally, it's not healthy to ask the initial question because said question implies that all women are presently objects and oddly enough is an objectification in itself- making the questioner the one at fault.
Oh all women are objectified and every female being, unless being raised otherwise by good parents, would know that as female holo sapiens, they are being objectified. That's why I already hated my face and the way I look at age 4, and my friend's daughter started doing situps because she feels she was fat at age 11. And there is a rehab in England made for anorexic children. This is what we as a society have achieved. Ruin children's sense of self worth and place the girl's self worth not on their skills or compassion levels, but on their looks so that they damage themselves trying to fit into what society made them believe is the standard of beauty. I still hate my facial Features, I had never felt pretty my entire life.
Society is construct that is actively being created so that "I" can better communicate with "you". Both of which are entirely meaningless when not in reference to the other.
Which means... the problem of objectification is more a misunderstanding by those who are objectified and thought to be objectifying rather than an actual problem.
Interesting video. Everyone who objectifies is at fault. I agree, the media is fucking up the children but the parents have to teach them to not feed into it though. It's up to us who don't like it to stop or reject the objectification. I don't wear tight or uncomfortable clothing much anymore, only rarely when dressing up and it reminds me how uncomfortable it is. I prefer being real. RESIST or be a SLAVE.
I am kind of an outcast but people still love me and respect me. I look normal though and see other women dress like me with no makeup and it's an unspoken respect we have for each other.
Kids still decide what to wear and parents have influence. If they and friends want to dress like skanks then thats how they are. I was always a tomboy, thank god for baggy jeans and overalls back in my day. My parents also would've beat my ass if I wore a tube top.
Well, I don't know what is the problem, the woman says in the video you posted : we raise our little girls to view their bodies as projects to constantly be improved".
And that is exactly what the body is for and for men too.
I lift, run do some sparing, plyometrics and shit everyday, to train my body like a machine and I will become one.
The only problem with the objectification of women it is that it is related to beauty and not performance, sadly you can't outwork an ugly face. That's why there are so much plastic surgery.
The problem is little girls developing anorexia and female children doing sit ups because they think they're fat. And kids hating their own facial features. Children shouldn't have to worry about these things.
Contrary to iraqveteran I never blame women for anything.
Concerning the anorexia, bad exemple cause I was mysel anorexic for 10 years and developed it because of various thing with the trigger being my mother's death. This illness is not causes by the objectufication of women otherwise I would have not suffer from it.
I developed it cause I was a weakling and still am by my standards. Another few years of intense training and all emotions will be wipe out.
There is no problem, there is just life and the rule in life is getting stronger or be fucking killed by life which is a constant war.
The only problem for women is that you cannot train beauty, which is true for men too but no one will give you shit if you are an hard trained cold hearted men (which I hope to become with God's help) while it is not true for women so yeah it is harder for an ugly trash women than an ugly trash man but again life is tough and there is no one to blame for that. Sry for this hard truth
I don't know but the problem to me doesn't seem to be sexual objectification, but how a lot of women seem to develop all kinds of insecurities.
In my case I'm comfortable with my own body. I think I'm in pretty good shape for a 35-year old. I can never grow taller and my abs aren't as defined as they were in my 20s, but I'm comfortable in my own skin. I don't look at the mirror anymore trying to pick out flaws and getting insecure about it.
Yet there are guys who are taller than me and fitter than me all over the media. The difference is that it doesn't fill me with insecurities.
That's the problem I want society to solve: the fact that women develop all these insecurities. A body positivity movement seems to be addressing symptoms rather than root causes. I don't need guys who look like me shirtless on billboards to feel more comfortable about myself, and if I needed that then there's already a deeper problem there. I want to tackle and solve that deeper problem.
The cause is the portrayal of highly photoshopped women as the desirable One. Making every young girl feeling like they wouldn't be desirable unless they look like these unreal models
That's applied to male models as well. I work in the graphics industry and have worked with my share of designers who heavily post-processed images of both males and females. The main thing I want to figure out is why it doesn't bother us guys so much when this is done to the male figure, and why it bothers women so much when it's applied to the female figure.
I don't think the demand for these post-processed images will ever go away any time soon which is why I think a more healthy and productive solution is to figure out why a post-processed image of a female can have such a detrimental effect on making women feel insecure. It would make sense to me if guys were only pursuing women who looked like those models, but I've not found that to be the case either (not even close).
One of the problems I perceive in places like the U. S. where this obsession on body image and the way opposite sexes perceive each other as threats seems to be at an all-time high is that men and women don't befriend each other so often in these cultures.
The moment I went to the U. S. for the first time in primary school, I encountered this saying among the boys that "girls have cooties". I never encountered it anywhere else in the world. That already started out where the boys and girls are somewhat hostile to another and avoid befriending each other.
This lack of unity between male and female, I think, is why there are problems like cat-calling in the U. S. but not so much in places like here (Japan). The average male here tends to have about as many female friends as he does male friends, including life-long female friends. There's a mutual respect and understanding there.
I don't know if this will address female body insecurities so well, but it might be a start.
My feeling is that media influence is most dangerous when certain groups of people cease to interact with each other. And in those cases I think the media often has a negative influence no matter what is included there.
This applies to every type of group of people we can categorize: male, female, white, black, Asian, Hispanic, Christian, Muslim, atheist, etc. etc. etc.
When people don't have close friends with people in these categories, they then tend to form their opinions through the media representations of these people which are always exaggerated, oversimplified, etc.
The cure for me there is not to keep trying to change and censor the media but to actually solve the root problem which is the failure for people in these groups to interact with each other. If they're friends with each other and develop a great mutual understanding of each other, the media loses its power. It becomes obvious that it's not an accurate depiction of reality whatsoever.
You're not wrong, and in fact the problem stems further in that we are pressured to have a mate who is considered "hot" by our peers, or we won't be accepted either. Most of the younger generations place little to no importance on personality, even though they will claim otherwise. They choose primarily on looks, and then wonder why their relationship has no substance. But, to quote my own boyfriend, "I'd rather have an intelligent 2 than a dumb 10."
I think everyone has heard "sex sells"... it's obvious that the media & advertisers are always pushing the envelop to gain viewership for their adds and products. Then you add the women's mag's which are half advertisement which continue the onslaught on women's self-esteem telling them they aren't pretty if they don't wear this or buy that. By the same token, women should know better by now and not buy into it. But most are fine with objectification until it no longer benefits them. (once they hit the wall)
As soon as it was established that women are valued for beauty and men are valued for their resources is when "objectification of women" began. Generally, women figured out in the past that the path to success was to marry up. Thus, the only way to a man's wealth was through his loins.
not "other women"... just Women. Although I don't agree with the whole concept of "objectification" Women have the right to chose the jobs they do. If they want to be in porn, nobody is making them suck dick on camera. Women have the right to wear whatever clothes they want. Nobody is making them pick the trashy outfit. Most women chose that outfit that shows off thier tits, then bitch that all men do is stare at them. Sorry, you wore it because you knew that was the effect. Women have the right to chose to be strippers and hookers. If I could make money fucking, why wouldn't I pick that? some strippers and hookers make many times more a year then I make.
I feel like it's women themselves. I mean look at these movements that women support about letting breasts be shown in public. Don't you think that's what a fat corporate millionaire sitting in his office wants? Women fall into their own demise, constantly making fun of each other and bullying. sure men are to blame too, but don't put all the blame on men. All those protests that "feminists" support that are on female nudity are not for "equality" it just makes it easier for men to objectify women. Women before weren't allowed to even vote and now they want to "let the titties free". And get the wrong idea, I'm a big supporter of women equality and suffrage.
in my opinion, objectification is just a bizarre twist of reality that women have developed to find yet another thing they can claim to be a victim to. victimization is the bigger problem.
however objectification is just a very normal thing that everybody does equally. if we don´t know a person enough but we thing they are hot, that´s already objectification. cause we don´t appreciate them for their character (yet) and not only girls are objectified.
this is not a bad thing (in a guys case) cause guys are very visual. the appreciate women for what they look like. that doesn´t mean that we don´t appreciate their character if we´re given the chance to.
it comes down to being shallow. and i know you will argue "duh girls are less shallow", to wich i can just answer:" HA yeah right. keep on living in your dream world.
but i know how it is. women want to be victimized and if you argue against it you´re an asshole. you´re not allowed to tell women they are not a victim.
no you are not a "victim". cause nobody malevolently made you feel like that. you decided yourself to compare yourself with what you think is better and decided to feel bad for not being like them.
You can't help comparing yourself that's true. But it's your decision to feel bad about it. Toddlers don't give a shit about looks. You're exaggerating
Oh but they do. Why else would the girls like princesses and pretty dresses? My students can even criticize their friends if their coloring is not neat. Even toddlers and babies know what is pretty and what is not. Babies even cry when they see faces that are unattractive to them and stare at faces generally conceived as beautiful. This is proven by experiments
Good point. However might I remind you, much of the magazines for women sell this image or advertisement in it. Movies push for it. If women didn't buy the idea or product would it sell? Think about it, even the statistics in the beginning of this video speak volumes. You may stand for it but instead stop purchasing their products and buying into the lie they created that your only perpetuating. Teach your sister, cusin, girl that is a friend, etc. about character, and integrity. There more I can say.
I never buy those magazines yet still the impact is massive in my life. I have started hating my body and my facial features as early as I can remember
Exactly, whether it be through magazines, movies, or music the message still effects the culture. I am sorry that you've went though hating your body. Question: why did you start hating your body?
Because I don't look like these models on tv and billboards. As a 4 y. o child, I don't read fashion magazines. But the models they use on billboards and the actresses you see on tv everyday, are white or mixed white. I'm Asian and I live in Asia. I look nothing like these white or half white women. I don't have their big blue eyes. Their tall nose bridges and sharp nose tips that look so elegant. My nose is upturned, wide, and piggy-like. I still hate it even until this very day. I have come to peace with my small eyes and my thicker lips, but I still hate my nose. I used to hate my thick lips too at age 4. I wanted thin, small lips that looks neat and cute. I wanted to be paler.
You see? All this without anyone ever having to say anything about me. You see, and you think these women, bathed in light and glitter, are attractive. And you compare yourself to them. That's how a girl's insecurity develops. Little girls shouldn't have to think the way I do, hating herself at such a young
I feel like obviously men have always been sexually attracted to women. But that's natural. It was the media that started spreading this toxic shit around. Look on ig, before ig became a thing we didn't have mainstream pop artists twerking with their ass hanging out during the AMAs. And now everything is like "is she a bad bitch/hoe or not"
Men set up the stage that women are objects thousands of years ago but women are running with it even in today's modern age which is disturbing. On both sides
I think it comes from women. For the longest time women have had certain standards and rules they set that women needed to follow in order to be attractive. Some women put themselves in the position to be objectified and flaunt their bodies around in a sexual way.
Like anything in a system, each variable impacts each other. The answer is none and all. They all cannot take the blame, and yet they all do.
To fix this, each group has to make a concerted effort to change. If not, the effects of one group's efforts will be barely noticeable in the larger scope of things.
okay I hate the idea of the media objectifying women. These women are agreeing to be in the media in a sexy way. They aren't being objectified. They are just doing what they want. It isn't demeaning and it isn't bad. The only people who think it are fucking feminists that can't handle the fact that some women like to be seen as sexy. Fuck this is one of my pet peeves.
That isn't because women are objectified. I had body image issues all of my life... it's not because women decided to flaunt themselves on the media for crying out loud. It's just because I knew what the ideal body was for a female to have. I was going to find that out whether or not there were half naked women on the screen or on the magazine or not.
It's all part of a package in my mind. The point is women are expected to be like something. And that is the images we can't avoid. And that just harms our very selves and our kids. No amount of encouraging words can undo that damage
What's your point? So do men. Women aren't special little unicorns. We aren't the only ones who are told to look a certain way or have body issues. Just because males aren't as vocal about it doesn't mean anything. Men are told to look like this images6.fanpop.com/.../...els-33379019-301-400.jpg Women are told to look like this static2.stuff.co.nz/1410148535/266/10473266.jpg both are half naked, both are unrealistic.
Not saying men aren't presented with ridiculous standards as well, but the impact is definitely more massive on little girls compared to little boys. It's because of the length and frequency of the exposure to images of perfect women.
That's the biggest load of malarkey I have ever heard. Both sexes have had ideal body types since the time humans first existed. Both sexes have always enjoyed looking at each other nude. Male modelling is just as old if not older than female modelling. Half naked men have been all over the media since I've been kicking (I'm positive they were there much before then too) which means all the males my age and younger have been dealing with that body stigma too. Like I said men and women are both being shown off a sexy because that's what the opposite sexes like to see but it is treated differently when it happens to women because women think women are delicate.
you are right. There are feminazis and there are feminists. I totally agree that feminazis are worse than feminists but we in developed countries do not need feminism anymore. 3rd wave feminism is bullshit. In developed countries men and women have the same amount of inequalities and struggles (although different) and it makes no sense to better only women because then we create an imbalance again. You are still stuck in this pity party mindset that women need so much help but unless you live in an underdeveloped country then no you are not a helpless dove caught in a hurricane all by yourself. You're just like everyone else who has struggles, failures, and happiness mixed in trying to survive. I'm an equalist. We need equality.
Women want to be objectified as it validates their need to feel attractive. The only chicks I know that object to women being objectified are ugly feminists or women in their 30's who spent years on the cock riding carousel using their youth and looks as currency to get what they want but not that currency is out of date resent having to work for what they get. Celebrity examples include Pamela Anderson and Rose McGowan as well as a whole heap of pornstars who got too old.
Why don't men want to be objectified? Won't they want to feel attractive too? Oh wait... Women don't just look at the visual thing in a guy, we also pay attention to other things. That's why men aren't so keen on being objectified. Whereas men are mostly visuals first, so if we women don't cater to this need of men, we're set for a long lonely life
This to a certain extent. I was very chaste when I was in my twenties due to religious reasons however, in many cases I took it as a compliment providing the comment or action wasn't crass. If it was, I would just ignore it. If not, I would just smile sweetly and say thank you. I still get compliments at thirty two, which I'm surprised at but definitely not offended lol.
Men and women are built differently, our differences are biological, we look for different qualities in each other. Men honestly don't care if they are objectified , in fact if you were a bit of a player it would help.
What does this objectification on women do to the younger generations though? When young teens feel the need to wear shorts so short it exposes their butt cheeks? When little girls stuff their bras? When I was 11, I REFUSED to wear a bra, even though I needed it. I didn't want to change. But young girls these days... want to look as sexy as possible as early as possible
And young girls always have wanted to look series and grab men's attention, only now it's less modest and more brazen. Men have very little to do with this and if you say the media well 51%of the world population is women and at least 70% of advertising, music and fashion is directed at women. Women want to be objectified, women really need to stop blaming men and focus on why they feel the need. Look at music video's Rhianna, Katy Perry, Beyonce Taylor Swift, Nikki minaj etc those videos clothes, dancing and lyrics are directed primarily at girls aged 10-18 not boys. How many feminist be in the club dancing to a song with sexist derogatory lyrics that basically state that women are cum buckets? How many women love being objectified by a hot guy but if it's an unattractive male he's a creepy perv? It's all very hypocritical.

I'd say that it's other women, specifically women who are projecting their insecurities onto others.
But we all know that insecure women are that way often because of daddy issues. So I guess the blame should be put back on the men.
Then I remember that men are assholes because of mommy issues and man-eaters, so the blame falls back on the women again?

however objectification is just a very normal thing that everybody does equally. if we don´t know a person enough but we thing they are hot, that´s already objectification. cause we don´t appreciate them for their character (yet) and not only girls are objectified.
this is not a bad thing (in a guys case) cause guys are very visual. the appreciate women for what they look like. that doesn´t mean that we don´t appreciate their character if we´re given the chance to.
it comes down to being shallow. and i know you will argue "duh girls are less shallow", to wich i can just answer:" HA yeah right. keep on living in your dream world.
You know EXACTLY the effects this objectification and depiction of women in media has on me.
everybody knows it´s photoshoped.
but i know how it is. women want to be victimized and if you argue against it you´re an asshole. you´re not allowed to tell women they are not a victim.
You say I'm not a victim if I have been hating my entire body ever since I was 4? Maybe even earlier, can't remember.
no you are not a "victim". cause nobody malevolently made you feel like that. you decided yourself to compare yourself with what you think is better and decided to feel bad for not being like them.
instead of accepting you for who you are and not feel bad for that, cause there´s no objective reason to.
I was a toddler. I couldn't make the decision to not compare myself with the white skinny models we see everywhere.
Other women. Blame the kardashians, madonna, nicki minaj, well... basically any female celebrity that sell their body.
Yeah I have no respect for those empty headed bimbos
So little girls being anorexic is not a problem to you? Little 4 year old girls having body image issues is what? A feminist problem?
That isn't because women are objectified. I had body image issues all of my life... it's not because women decided to flaunt themselves on the media for crying out loud. It's just because I knew what the ideal body was for a female to have. I was going to find that out whether or not there were half naked women on the screen or on the magazine or not.
Exposure is key word. And choice of models.
them choosing only skinny models isn't objectification that's just them being rude...
Call it what you want, it is what happens. White models for Asian market. Also very harmful for people's self esteem
I don't disagree but that wasn't what you asked in the original question. You asked about objectifying women and they aren't.
The thing with men has only just started. The thing with women has been going on for at least a century now. Since print media was invented at least.
Ok then you have not been living in a patriarchal world. Cause the world that you live in, is not the world that I live in
I live in the same world as everyone else. Feminists just see everything in a messed up manipulated lense.
There are Feminists, and there are feminazis. Then there are those like you who don't mind being second class citizens to men
you are right. We need equality.
simple and concise: both. ones for allowing it by participating in it; others for taking advantage of the the condition.
Well said
well thanks!
@navychick2006 nice to see a lady who can take a compliment, these days a mere glance can classified as "stare rape".
