Miss is a title usually associated with married women - and hey, they tend to be younger. He wasn't giving you a title associated with old women, if anything it's associated with younger girls. If he wanted to associate you with older women, he'd call you ma'am or madam. He was just being polite and I'm a cashier, it's something I've literally been instructed by my supervisor to do so you should probably lay off him.

Miss is polite, so perhaps that cashier just has wonderful manners.
But I know exactly what you mean—I’m 26 and some guy here on GaG called me ma’am and instantly I felt ancient. 💀😢
Miss is what young women are called. It means "Unmarried", technically.
Ma'am or Madam are what older, married women are called.
LOL god dam, are you for real? Miss is a term older people use to address people they think are younger than them. Miss is usually for women who are in their 20s to 30s. If I thought you looked 53, it would be Ma'am
miss is just the polite way to address an unmarried (or if you are uncertain about their age) woman. it isn't used to delineate age or anything

Miss is a title applied to, typically young, unmarried women. I would call young ladies miss and older women mam.
I'm confused... why'd that offend you? Doesn't "miss" refer to a young unmarried woman?
Miss is simply a polite title to call a girl, calm down you psycho
He's just being polite and professional. What's the alternative?
You shouldn't be so offended by it at all. He was trying to be polite.
Miss isn't insulting in any way. If anything it's more complementary
And this is why chivalry is dead...
please don't hurt yourself thinking too hard
He wanted to be polite, that's all.
