Exactly what it says. You can be 80 years old but if you never had any actual life experience, you will be as dumb as a teenager. On the other hand, if you survived all kinds of shit by the age of 20 or 30, you can be very wise. Experience is what creates wisdom, age has absolutely nothing to do with it, the only reason those two are linked is because more age usually means more experience

i guess that as we experience negative and somewhat damaging things in life it actually helps us mature mroe than just time alone. which is true to an extent. we've seen 45 years olds who are like children and 20 year olds who like retired people in terms of wisdom and maturity.
it would be true that experiences are a major contributor to maturation more than just passage of time
Our experiences shape our growth. There's probably kids in 3rd world countries who have been through such hardships, kids who are raising their little brothers and sisters, taking care of sick parents, those kids are probably more mature than a lot of adults here.
Age is just a number.
Its basically a way of saying it the experiences you have that make you who you are.
That you learn from mistakes and bad experience not from aging alone.

Philosophical meaning of Maturity means how you see the life. How responsible you are and what decisions you make. These traits doesn't come with years. They come with experiences. Experiences can be anything that happens in your life and change the way you think. Like 3 years ago I lost my father and I matured at that young age because I had to face the world.
Damage is a wrong word here. Experience suits the best. You mature with experiences. What I get from that is that time doesn’t mature us but we mature with every failed relationship. It’s kind of like the saying that we learn more from our failures then we do from our successes. I agree with this but not if the damage is way beyond devastating.
That is a very dysfunctional way of looking at the world. That means who have to go through bad experiences to mature. For instance, if your mother dies, then you become more mature.
Experience comes not with years, but with the struggles we encounter and overcome.
Basically it's life's experiences that mature us not just simply getting older
You can be 80 and still act like a valueless child, but you can also be 80 with experience and dents of life with values.
That's basically what it means.it means you will get mature with the hurdles of life
not with the time passedAge doesn't teach maturity, experiences do.
What we go through in life some come with damage.
