I've seen the video of George Floyd's death and I see police brutality. The other officers being so nonchalant about this going on indicates this sort of thing happens routinely.

I'm not so sure I see racism. I think that cop could just as easily be doing that to a white suspect. He probably has done it many times. Has there been any evidence that the cop is a racist? He may have been doing that to george floyd because he was a felon and been in prison or maybe because he was a drug user. People that are drug users and/or have criminal past get treated worse by police all the time. Has the cop made racist statements in the past or in any way indicated he's a racist? I saw the brutality and there is a couple of different things that could have driven the cop to do that, How is everyone so sure its because he was black?

Well, the knee on the throat of Mr. Floyd may be one indicator. However, the observation is actually well founded. The particulars of Mr. Floyd's death became less important - and indeed at this point with riots and radical takeover of city centers and all the rest has become - less important than what groups decided to suggest it represented.

To start, there has been some suggestion that the officer and Mr. Floyd had known each other prior to the encounter that resulted in the latter's death. Indeed, that the relationship had not been a happy one. However, media accounts of this have fluctuated and the existence of that relationship and its' nature has not been definitively confirmed.

That again, no longer being relevant. In a media soused age where pictures are more important than words, let alone thought, those with a particular agenda jumped to conclusions that suited their predilections and preconceived opinions. Thus, for groups like Black Lives Matter, the image of Mr. Floyd's death mattered more than Mr. Floyd himself.

That Mr. Floyd's death was a clear violation of law and police procedures cannot be doubted. That it is representative of a recurrent pattern is not borne out by the data. In fact, in all of 2019, a grand total of 10 black men were killed by the police. At the same time, out of over 2000 murders of a black person in the last year, 83% were committed by a black person.

This begging the question of whether black lives matter to black people. The data suggesting that they do not.

As far as the particulars of Mr. Floyd's death, until there is a trial there will be no way to know the motive of the police officer. That said, in terms to the imagery, there is an spooky parallel to this situation and the reaction to the images of the young man from Covington, Kentucky. There a young man was accused of racism because he had the effrontery to smile.

When the context was revealed, it turned out that the person of color - in that case a Native American - had provoked the incident. The boy, all of 16, thought by smiling he would defuse the situation.

This was, perhaps, the most odious episode. Adults, who should know better, reacted to visual stimulus, making no attempt to use reason to suspend judgment and get the facts, processing everything through the prism of their own bias and emotions. This was the response of animals, not civilized human beings.

At this point, a reasonable assessment of the available data in the Floyd case would show only that police procedures were violated. Motive can only be guessed.

However, in an age where adults allow their biases to be the father to their thoughts, and therefore have an almost Pavolvian response to verbal stimulus, from such thin gruel are rants of righteous indignation, theatrical protests, sensationalist journalism and ultimately race riots are born. It is a pathetic state of affairs for creatures who call themselves rational and civilized.

I never got the inclination that he was racist. I just figured he was hyped up on adrenaline or maybe was a solider with some bad war zone habits and PTSD when I first saw it. Regardless of why, it doesn’t excuse his actions. We still convict drunk drivers when they kill someone... As more details and video footage came out he looked even more reasonable in his actions. He wasn’t the one that told the guy to get out of the vehicle, he didn’t drag him out, he didn’t cuff him. The black cop did. He just came to the assistance of the black officer when Floyd repeatedly resisted arrest. So I can see why a criminal that was irate and uncooperative got treated hard and got ignored when he complained. It all adds up in the end. It doesn’t make it right that he died in custody, but it make sense that he was treated the way he was based on his behavior. The cop went a bit too hard so he should pay for that. The others not so much. While I thought second degree murder was most appropriate when first viewing the video, after all the details third degree murder/manslaughter seems more accurate. All that should out in court so if they get too greed and over charge everyone, then everyone will probably walk.

In my personal OPINION, the racism is in the fact that they got away with it. Police brutality runs rampant across, all racial lines, but black people are victims of it at a higher rate. There’s no way to be sure that this was racially motivated. It’s possible it was motivated by a personal grudge, since there have been reports that the two worked with each other and knew each other. But it’s the fact that all the officers were caught on video and faced no consequences, and there was an active effort made to “cover it up”. The system itself is racist because it allows stuff like this to happen to black people with no repercussions. Stuff like this happens all the time to black people. I believe in the police autopsy report they stated that his death was caused by drugs or an unknown medical condition and not by the officers kneeling on his body. But a second autopsy showed that officers kneeling on him did cause his death. When police brutality happens to white people, they often times have the financial means and the support of the system to get justice. When stuff like this happens to black people, we typically do not have the financial means and we face racial bias in the system that prevent us from getting justice.

I don't see any obvious evidence of racism - I see bad policing by a jaded officer. One of the other officers, a rookie with 6 months experience, asked Chauvin several times if they shouldn't roll Floyd over or put him in the car - he obviously had concerns about Floyd. Chauvin told him no each time.

Chauvin is clearly at fault, and 3rd Degree Murder charges are warranted. The other officers, particularly the two rookies, one of whom expressed concern multiple times, are not murders. in my opinion, they should not have been fired, and certainly not charged, though some punishment and retraining was warrented.

The fact is that cops kill more white people than black people, even when you look at the rate of deaths, which takes into account the percentages of whites vs. blacks. It's possible that Chauvin is racist, but it's equally possible that he was just a bad cop who abused his power.

Perfection is not a realistic standard to use when you have police interacting with the public - especially when you have people stoking racial hatred and police hatred. Mistakes will be made. Thst hardly means that all cops everywhere are racist.

But that's what the far left wants everyone to believe, even though the facts don't even remotely support that conclusion. But facts don't matter to the mob.

Being from the UK our police deal with situations differently on the whole but then guns aren't widely available so generally confrontations dont escalate so quickly.
I'm not sure there was anything distinctly racist about the stop. There was a call about a possible crime, they responded as they would with any suspect. The way it escalated was unacceptable and no one should have died.
There is something in the statistics that shows that minorities are disproportionately stopped. I'm sure officers are given stats to show a profile of subjects and circumstances where offeneders get more violent. Having a preconceived vision of how a situation will develope and basing that on a racial profile is where it gets murky. I would question how the stats look if you look at other socio-economic factors. People who are unemployed or working class would be disproportionally targetted over middle class or upper class.
There is an issue with police intergration with communities. It needs to be addressed. The best way is for the BAME community to join the police force, change it from within

Let’s look on his record to see if this officer has treat ALL PEOPLE with the same “care” (knee on neck) for every Caucasian in the same situation?

Did this officer pull ever person from every sex in every age group out of the car like that?

How many times did this officer put if knee so far deep in someone’s neck for a crime they aren’t sure was committed in the first place?

Floyd didn’t even resist arrest.

If I receive fake bills without my knowledge, and use it does that mean I can get choked out and potentially killed when I know I didn’t do anything and there is no evidence of such crime?

Can we agree officers can’t use excess of force and if death occurs to a person it should be considered cold blooded since it wasn’t for self-defense?

Let me also make another point, there is more evidence that this officer killed George Floyd in excess of force, Not permitted by law, and it took 3 days to arrest this officer. Far less evidence was needed to incriminate a black man by the name of George Floyd, to be pulled out of his vehicle, choked even though he wasn’t resisting, with one of the most deadly parts of your body the knee. And at the same time not allowing this man to breath when he was begging for his life. That’s called execution by law. And where did this come from? How many Caucasians has this officer done this to?

There doesn't appear to be any evidence of racism to me. BLM seem to call any case of a black killed by a non-black cop racism, by default.. which I think is ridiculous. I honestly believe race is not as relevant as they think it is.. or claim it is

Not sure if you're familiar with Tim Pool, youtube journalist (new media, and he does have credentials he used to be mainstream media but left because of how biased it was, he was being told not to report this and that because it might offend the target audience). On one of his recent Timcast IRL shows one of the hosts was saying that apparently George Floyd and this police officer used to work together as bouncers/doormen at a club, and the police officer had a reputation for being violent, excessively so, the first to escalate the situation, had loads of complaints. Apparently Floyd would speak out against this, would challenge him, and so this guy (the police officer; former doorman) had a bit of a rivalry with Floyd.

I couldn't find the specific video and timecode quickly because I watch so much Timcast, but he and his team do a heck of a lot of research and they look at what everyone has to say. I'll see if I can find it and post it in the comments.

I watched a video in which they interviewed a 17 year old white kid who was pulled over with his friends by this same cop and he went psycho on and threatened to shoot them all because they had a nerf gun in the car with them, and he’s had previous reports about him killing other people. Even the kid himself said though that he thinks the outcome of the altercation would have been a lot worse for him and his friends if they weren’t white. In that case, he flips out on whites too but is still undeniably racist. I have no pity for him or any of those cops involved in the incident. I’ll post a link to the video if I can find it.

Police brutality and misconduct has been getting more and more out of control.

African americans and other minorities are targeted at a higher rate than white people.(what sparked the rage)

Now that the fire is burning, unpunished police misconduct as a whole is the issue at hand.

For example, the police officer who shot 11 year old tamir rice faced no charges and has recently been hired by another department.

I could spend hours listing the recorded murders of unarmed citizens, but you can find them yourself.

The main point is not that george was black, its that the officer used excessive force and murdered him.

Statistically police stop, harrass, arrest, and use excessive force against black people way more than white people even though white people are a higher percentage of the population and commit more crime. The racism in policing is always evident in the statistics, not always evident in every video of every cop. Black or white though police brutality is bullshit and needs to stop for everyones sake.

Lmao dude that "Cop" was going against training. You don't put your knee on someone's neck at all, and you don't hold someone in that position for that long. He specifically told that Lane guy to not turn him over when the Lane guy asked if they should.
It's irrelevant if that guy was a felon (he wasn't), been in prison (he hasn't) or was a drug user (wasn't at the time), you don't get to do that regardless, and that cop intended to hurt and probably kill Floyd, period.
You can't outright prove racism like this, without the cop basically stating racist statements. That's sorta the problem with racism, you'd need to be a mind reader. There are other possible aggressive reasons the cop could have done so, but most likely racism. It's never going to not be racism, unless the cop is like: "Yea I killed him on purpose, and this is why, not racism." or something of the sort.

They apparently had a history we don't know the ins and outs but I think the cop would've been prone to violence anyways. US law enforcement seems awfully heavy-handed anyway. As for the statistics, 40% of prisoners are black in the US I don't know what your media is projecting but I do know that they are comparing the death rate to the 13% black population not the percentage of black people in custody. The UK is doing the same thing.
People should not die in police custody unless they have been sentenced to do so, so any killing is wrong and the murdering of Floyd was sickening. However, there were 4 officers and only 2 were white! one Chinese one black so focusing on race is wrong. The battle should be against police brutality and getting them training so these accidental deaths don't happen And training in the judicial system so if they do people are held accountable regardless of colour and the crimes they have committed.

Who says they everyone of them were racist? But if they do not have the courage to confront another cop, who is obviously not following procedure, they do not belong on any police force.

I think you guys get sidetracked. It is like if a cop isn't racist, then he is innocent.

If it helps you, take race/racism out of it. Then ensure police officers are doing their job properly. As someone here keep saying, maybe their jobs are too hard. We need a different service to write people tickets and/or cite misdemeanors. Maybe police with guns are only used for situations where there is a possibility deadly force will be needed.

They are certain because the man is white and the victim was black. That is quite literally all they require to make that determination. As you said their is no evidence of racism what so ever here, one of the officers was black another Chinese yet for some reason that is ignored. The media makes money off of race baiting and dividing America up into highly angry racial groups. All things aside though, I have the same question. I mean can't people just see evil instead of the race first. There were times where I was rude to people of different races and it had nothing to do with their race. I was just having a bad day. I agree with you, I never was. But it could be.

People don't do a lot of research... they react, we all do. For those who recall the abuse of black people in history and patterns of abuse in their own lives and media, they might see this as far as an intentional murder/lynching. Someone who didn't live in that reality will perceive it differently.

Maybe it was race inspired. He apparently didn't hate thai people, he married one and worked witha chinese guy. Did he work with any black cops... ever date a black woman, etc.. I have no idea. Maybe it wasn't... we don't know. He pointed a gun at a white teen at least once.

People see things through their own frame of reference. If we had watched all the killings of knee to neck and then this one, maybe it change the viewpoint to... police or personal vs race. There answer is in there somewhere.

Great question. My take there is no way to for sure know if he was racist or not. Saying he was racist helps to sell a narrative and boost ratings. Makes for a juicer story. Americans love to throw that word around all willie nilly.
For the people in the comments Saying it was police brutality he killed a black man so of course he was racist. Uhh what's to say he wouldn't do the same to any other race. The cop had a long record of violence and abuse of power. Yes it was police brutality and he's a terrible person. No one disagrees but saying it was a racist act is a bit of a reach.

Plus I am no medical expert, but from what it seems like looking at both autopsies Floyd didn't die, because of the knee on his neck suffocating him, but rather a combination of arteria-narrowing, a mixture of drugs in his system and stress. The knee was on the right-back side of his neck. And not with a lot of pressure there, either. And as it turns out peoples windpipe are at the front. But it could have applied pressure on the arterias in his neck and thus created a chain reaction into a circulatory collapse.
