Gibbons lack higher cognitive abilities. They do have a throat sac used to emit loud sounds. They're usually monogamous.
Gorillas also live in a social hierarchy in which the dominant male (silverback) protects the group. Chest-beating is a practice used to intimidate and ward off threats (competing males, humans). Gorillas are less curious than chimps but more calm. Females give birth every 4-6 years.
Chimpanzees are our closest living relatives (share 98% of DNA). They have similar social hierarchies and use tools. They're the most social of apes and participate in activities like grooming one another, hunting for meat (males), and mourning.
