1.2K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I mean most people usually just move on, some people even think its a compliment so its difficult to tell who is gonna be positively or negavtivly affected by cat calling. Is it right or wrong? No, however depending on the person who is receiving it may be wrong. So to you and many others its wrong, but you also have to realize that some people actually like it and some simply don't care. No one knows what your thinking so all you can do is take a chance and see where it goes. Do i view scaring people as acceptable behavior? No of course not but in certain cases that mostly require the a emotional perspective instead of a rational one and well as you know most men think rationally and that's why we don't see it as bad. To us we think were doing you a favor by noticing you or by simply being nice to you. Of course to you yourself you feel scared and threaten. So it really depends on who it is and how they think. Cat calling will never stop unless its made illegal and even then some guys won't care. I am sorry though that you had to feel like you were threaten when someone was catcalling you.

I appreciate the way you phrased it, but I am most certain that your view of catcalling is not what I experienced. No women would appreciate a fifty year old man calling them a "nice piece of ass". I did ask for your opinion so I cannot object truly
- +1 y
That's what catcalling is tho, she's pretty, she's got a nice ass, she's hot. That's catcalling but my question to you is, how would you feel if that man was a super model or a celebrity? A 50 year old man can't do anything to you, if you scream or start running most guys are gonna back off unless they are the creepy type. Also i read your earlier comment on someone else's opinion and you said we should teach men not to catcall and my question to you is would you rather men not tell you your pretty at all or would you want men to notice you even if there ugly? Men are go on sight type of people, we tend to naturally be attracted to things and we like to call them out so would you rather be invisible or what?
- +1 y
I would feel objectified no matter who said it. And a fifty year old man could easily overpower me. I wouldn't mind if someone said "hey, you're pretty!" and went about their day but I don't want to know if a guy thinks my ass is nice. For the record, yes. I'd rather be invisible

Isn't it? You can 3d print prosthetics too
- +1 y
Ooh sounds interesting
- +1 y
Yes it so awesome, i love 3D printers, i wish they were better tho so we wouldn't have to farm as many resources today as we would if they were better. Imagine all the things you could build, most of the dreams that don't have anything to do with biology in terms of living breathing organism's could become real in a matter of moments
- +1 y
It's cool, I just don't like being faulted for things that are done to me. Men and women struggle the same amount but men do have the ability to not have to worry as much as women about safety. Didn't mean to blow up tho

Ah I plan to be a marine biologist!

It was marine biology because I've always loved the ocean and science and I job shadowed a marine biologist once and loved it

+1 yBecause they find them attractive. If you're in a Walmart, you're in public, and you're being recorded. Why do you think being so paranoid is okay? If you lack the mental fortitude to endure being hit on, how is it acceptable to go anywhere on your own?
It's a shame that it makes you uncomfortable, but you're going to spend your entire life hearing things that do that.211 Reply- +1 y
So you're saying that hitting on minors I'd okay and instead of teaching others that it isn't okay, you should teach me to never go anywhere alone? Your argument is flawed considering I have been hit on with my mother and step father right next to me.
- +1 y
Are you advertising your age everywhere you go? Do you constantly wear a sign that says "Caution: Minor"? At seventeen, you are biologically an adult. In 39 states and most of the first world, you're of age to consent to sex. So no, I'm not in favor of teaching others that it isn't okay, but there's no reason that it WOULDN'T be- save for your discomfort. Catcalling is TALKING (or whistling or hooting or what have you), but words and sounds are simply that- sounds. They're not touching you; hell, they're not even threatening you. They're simply expressing attraction in a way that bothers you. You can TRY to force others to suppress their sexuality. I'm sure that will work out just as well as the thousands of other times it's been tried. And you're the one who brought up being alone. If that wasn't a contributing factor, then your problems run far deeper than the usual "stranger danger" nonsense.
You were catcalled. You were not harmed. You were not threatened. No harm befell you, and you in a place where it was incredibly unlikely that any would. You can accept the fundamental laws of reality and realize that rough, unpleasant words don't do any damage, or you can spend your life hiding away. Your call. - +1 y
I could argue that your entire message was a clear example of male privilege but I did ask for you opinion so I cannot fault you for giving it. I most certainly don't agree but that won't change your mind. I hope one day you realize that, as a female, catcalling (not flirting) is absolutely terrifying but to each their own I suppose
- +1 y
How sheltered has your life been that you think "not getting special treatment" is PRIVILEGE? I'll admit I'm far from neutral on the subject, but as someone who's had to stare down gun barrels and had knives held to his throat, if you think hearing "you're a hot piece of ass" is terrifying, then you don't know what fear IS. If you insist on hiding behind your gender, then go and talk to women who've faced down actual danger- go find a female firefighter and ask her how scary it is to be catcalled.
- +1 y
@Eurybia2801 when you said male privilege that got me a bit upset because one we men do a lot of dangerous stuff that a lot of you women don't do, 2nd you can't say that because you know nothing of this man nor what he has been threw. However i agree that catcalling is bad but he is right tho, you werent harm, yes that man could have overpowered you if he wanted to but i doubt that he had any ill intent towards you tho
- +1 y
I meant male privilege as in you can freely walk at night without worrying about being attacked, you can walk to your car without checking the backseat and immediately locking your doors, you don't have to worry about someone walking up and groping you. And for one I did not say anything about what you experienced in life. I never said you've never experienced fear, don't you dare twist my words. I'm not going to fight you on who's had the worst life because I promise you it wasn't mine. I'm not hiding behind my fucking gender I'm just saying I want to be able to walk by myself without having to worry if someone is going to rape me
- +1 y
Now you can argue with me all you want on how you've had it worse and I'm a wimp or some shit but I'm sure we both have better things we could do with our time so I'm going to do both of us a favor and stop responding
- +1 y
@Eurybia2801 well uh yea your right we don't usually have to worry bout being grope, kidnap we do, rape is possible for us as well, why would you wanna walk around at night anyway? Most people can see if there car has been broken into if they look at that glass sense most car theifs aren't smart enough to try to get inside without breaking the glass and you can also look threw the front and back windows if you wanna check and see if someone is inside. Most guys that walk up and grope u, usually have the intent of kidnapping you as well. Or have the intent of just spanking your ass and running which can be avoided if you look behind you. However i do agree that women not being able to feel safe during the day is a problem which can be solve by simply having some prepper spray, a tazer or a small fire arm which call can be brought here in the U. S. A and in most other 1st world countries
- +1 y
Walk freely at night without being attacked? Are you under the impression that you're MORE likely to be a victim of violent crime as a woman? I suggest you take a look at your local crime statistics. The one and only form of violence that more women are victimized by is sex trafficking, and that's due almost exclusively to the bias against male homosexuality. You're assuming without knowledge because you've defined yourself as a victim.

@bailey11 Rude? Disrespectful? No, just inarticulate. The only difference between "you look beautiful today" and "you're a hot piece of ass" is the degree of formality. Being hit on is not being hit; words are just words.
+1 yOnce this creepy guy who was smoking started at my ass as I went to get something from the car and I was 16 and looked my age... it's so gross. No self control!
222 Reply- +1 y
I'm sorry that happened to you, it's honestly really scary
- +1 y
I know they looked at me like I was a piece of meat and they were like 60... ew. I dont like walking tbh bc of that
- +1 y
@eileen_ruth how about I protect you from all guys in their 60s so it never happens again?
- +1 y
I don't either! I always walk to my car with my keys in between my fingers, I always check the backseat, and I never walk alone at night. It sucks that girls have to worry about this so much
- +1 y
@MisterWednesday perfect!
- +1 y
Haha
- +1 y
Yeah I get it. My mom also doesn't blame it on the creepy guys, at all
- +1 y
@MisterWednesday ;)
- +1 y
@eileen_ruth Your mom blames you?
- +1 y
@MisterWednesday yes! She got mad at me for wearing a crop top once. Bc creepy men are gonna look at me. Nevermind me being 14 or 15.
- +1 y
I am sure she is just doing her best.
- +1 y
Trying to bring you up right parents are like that. They are not always right but they think they are.
- +1 y
@MisterWednesday I guess so. Seems like she cares sometimes. She's kinda difficult though.
- +1 y
They definitely do care but parents mess you up. I mean we get all their flaws plus our own flaws.
- +1 y
@MisterWednesday my dad was worse though. Parents are cool.
- +1 y
How so?
- +1 y
@MisterWednesday he was an addict and never was in my life and when he was he beat my mom in front of me and treated her horribly.
- +1 y
I am so sorry to hear that.
- +1 y
@MisterWednesday he's been dead for 14 years
- +1 y
I'm so sorry. Then you did not know him really but I guess the way he was it is better that you didn't,
- +1 y
@MisterWednesday yeah he was an awful person, hard being related to him tbh
- +1 y
Life is not easy for any of us but you turned out fine so that is the good thing.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yLike it says in the free ebook: "Woman to Women", if guys only knew what a low opinion we have of them when they act like that, they'd keep their mouth shut. (Personally, I think they're women haters. Either that or they're so out of touch with reality that they think we'll be flattered by their "compliment".) I've never met any woman who liked being spoken to like that. When some guy speaks to me like that, I just pretend he's talking to someone else and I don't even look in his direction - haha.

Because they’re disgusting and have NO self control. If they weren’t just thinking with their dick they would know how disgusting it is.
