African American men are not all absent from their kids lives My Dad Is not absent from my life he is here he is alive and he is well. And African Americans are not ghetto do not ever say that on an internet platform that is racist and you know it that's why you said not to be racist cuz you know that sounded racist because it is and that's unprofessional to say on the internet. Now I know you are a little on entitled to be saying these type of things. You need to ask the understand the culture of an African American before you start bidding and budding your little nose is sniffing. Because African Americans are not ghetto and you're using the word ghetto wrong you think ghetto means loud and slang which it does not ghetto pacifically means that you're in poverty and not all African Americans are in poverty. You can think however you want about us but you need to look back at your history books and see what we have made of ourselves. So you're not ghetto there's some white folks that are in the ghetto that want to be us but they can't. ... but that would be text book racism to say that African American fathers aren't in their children's lives because they are all junkies. The current gang culture is created by poverty, by elected officials, drugs, single mothers, lack education, glorification of gang culture, and a repeating viscous cycle. As we've seen with the BLM& ANTIFA burning down black neighborhoods and the defending of police crime has gone through the roof.
A major factor in the absence of African American fathers is that 1in3 African American men are in jail, have been to jail or are going to jail and the majority of prisoners were raised by single mothers as their fathers were I'm jail. Unfortunately the BLM fails to address this and has only made it worse by attacking soceity's protectors.
I think teen pregnancy is a big factor. If you're from the ghetto, didn't take school seriously, and live with a bad family. It's gonna be tough to provide for a child.
Cause let's be real even if you do pass high school and get a job you can't support a family off of minimum wage. The best thing you can do is possibly go into manual labor like construction.
But... When you're a teen you obviously don't think about these things. And rather than being stuck with the girl you can just leave.
And then the son or daughter grows up with no father figure.
But... On the flip side even if the father does stay if the parents are still young and irresponsible then guess what's the kid gonna do?
Bad decisions, bad parenting, and the cycle continues.

You are racist and ill informed. It takes more than a "few articles" to come to the conclusion you have.
Black fathers tend to be killed more often by cops, and tend to die younger due to poor health care and poverty. They aren't "absent" they are most likely dead or incarcerated.
Wow. The other comments are hammering you. Yet I heard the same as you. Several reasons were cited, some of them inflammatory. One reason suggested that government policy encouraged women to live without men. In any case, it's a disaster for the children, whatever the race, and studies consistently show this.

as someone who lives in a mix native African and black American area I'd say black American men are the ones who leave the kids not all but more do so than native Africans. Africans are raised differently and in harsher environments.
