It makes me sad to see kids my age smoking... I don't even blame them because teens go through a lot of emotions so it's no surprise that they get influenced into smoking. I think people smoke because of peer pressure and nervousness.
Some kids don't want to smoke but they do it to seem cool and less cowardly. I believe it's mostly guys who do this. Especially when they're around the wrong group of people, so they get pressured and smoke because they want to look tough and be part of the "bad boys gang"
If you're still in school I think you know those group of guys with saggy pants smoking outside the school, mean mugging everyone trying to look tough...
I believe the girls smoke out of nervousness, here in Italy if you ask a girl why they smoke most of them will tell you "perché tengo il nervoso" which means they're nervous or because they get nervous (best way I could put it)
Now these are all assumptions based on my understanding of it, I don't really know why people smoke but it breaks my heart knowing that they do that, smoking can cause lots of severe damages. I wish I could help in some way but all I can do is pray for them 😔❤
Because nicotine is an addictive drug, like heroin. It gives you a burst of pleasure if you haven't had it in a while, but for a regular addict all it really does usually is take away the nagging sensation of needing more of the drug as it starts to be filtered out of your system.
I used nicotine for over 10 years started when I was 13 and I'll never touch it again. It is such a strong drug and people don't even see it that way. They convince themselves they "want" to do it, which they do because they are addicts but they think they are in control but they aren't. For proof, watch one of them try to quit smoking for two weeks: it will be impossible for 90% of them, and about 50% of them won't even last 72 hours.
Yup peer pressure usually how it starts. Then the weak ones who have a addictive personality and get addicted to useless crap. Then end up making excuses that they like it, that it de-stresses them.. Which is a dumb thing to say. The reason you are stressed if cause you body needs a hit. Most of my of my friends quit, the few who never did. Blows my mind. Burning money away and your health. I even have sone who will smoke once In a blue moon, which ill never understand , it doesn't do anything but make you look foolish lol. Doesn't get you high or drunk, doesn't help but makes things worse. People are strange.

I don’t smoke and don’t like it. With that said I have engaged in other unhealthy habits before. i think it’s a stress relief for some people. Like a coping mechanism. Cool it might be unhealthy. But someone who is not coping with life.. well they have more urgent things on their mind than the health status of the cigarette they are smoking. sometimes understanding why someone does something involves empathy and seeing it from their perspective. I’m sure people who smoke may look at some of the decisions you make in your life and think you are making sad choices too.
Just curious but why did you initially want to try it in the first place? no judgment i just always wondered why people even try it knowing how addictive it is.
Try a cigarette or something and decide for yourself. It's like drinking. Some people like it and it doesn't hurt them, some people like it even though it hurts them, and some people can't stand it. Part of being an adult is getting to make decisions for yourself.
They smoke because they like how it smells/feels. There is a certain dark, artistic sexiness to smoking. It's one of those things that you either get or you don't.
I don't smoke myself but it's actually relaxing like a stress reliever but it's a bad habit. I just tried once but i just don't want to get addicted to it
I teach at at local college and see lots of kids both male and female smoking. The college does not allow it except in a designated area but they still do it. I see them vaping as well.
Nicotine is present in most diets as it is in tea, tomatoes, eggplant, and other plants. It performs as a neuro transmitter. Cigarettes are bad because they have too many additives, too much nicotine is questionable for health, but it present in our diets and performs a useful function in the human body. People wrongfully compare it to poisons such as THC which are not native to human diets and is in fact a natural pesticide. THC does not enhance neuro function but rather suppresses the nervous system. THC causes paralysis to insects that eat cannabis plants preventing them from eating and causes death. Humans exposed to high doses have resulted in three day "comas". High doses of nicotine can damage the brain, but regular dietary consumption doesn't reach that threshold.
