Every “state” is it’s own sovereign power thus why they are called states and not territories. All states are in a compact with one another via the constitution. Thus no state has to listen to Washington D. C. The military has sworn an oath to the constitution not to D. C. So at the end of the day, average citizens aren’t that threatened unless their state governors are allied with China and thus communist like the state of California. Fundamentally the left is about cooperation; convinced that the more cooperation you have the better the society is. When inevitably people don't cooperate -- especially to the mandated to standard -- cooperation needs to be *forced*, hence socialism.
