I support a women's right to abortion, but within limits.

First, if a woman has had, or is having sex, and misses her period, she should buy a pregnancy test right away. How hard is that? If it turns out positive and she doesn't want to have a baby, she should immediately get a chemical abortion, which can be done within 8 weeks of pregnancy. If she misses the 8 week cut off, I still advocate her right to an abortion if she gets it done early, say within 12 weeks max.

The thing is, shit can happen. Protection against pregnancy can fail. It's extremely rare, but it can happen. And, typically, it's young, naive women who get accidentally pregnant. That shouldn't ruin a person's life. Actually, it would ruin several people's lives including the guy and her parents at minimum.

Forcing a woman to go through nine months of gestation and childbirth, and then being responsible for a child for the rest of their life is like treating her like a slave. Her body doesn't belong to the government. And the government isn't going to support her or her child. Also, people who would impose their own opinions or religious beliefs on others should fuck right off.

Second. Using abortion as a form of contraception should be outlawed. As I said, mistakes can happen. But a series of mistakes is not a coincidence. If a woman can't figure out how to protect herself against pregnancy, she is irresponsible and cold blooded and shouldn't be allowed to remain fertile.

So I might support a third strike and you're out rule. Classes similar to those for drunk driving convictions would automatically be required after a second unwanted pregnancy. A third abortion would trigger a legal hearing before a judge in order to determine if there are any extenuating circumstances for her repeated, unwanted pregnancies other than irresponsibility. The judge would have a right to order her sterilized. Eliminate her genes from the pool.

Unfortunately it's not always so simple to know you are pregnant. Many women have irregular periods so missing it for a month or two might not be abnormal. Some women can still bleed during pregnancy as well, which could be mistaken for a period. And some women were on birth control that stopped their period, so of it failed and they became pregnant they wouldn't know they were missing periods

A mother with a fetus with down syndrome who gets an abortion and has another child later without downe syndrome is essentially the same as a mother only getting pregnant once and giving birth to a child without downe syndrome. That's just how reality works. The fact that most people don't understand that is about the biggest tragedy I can think of, for Texas. Thankfully, in most states that's not an issue because Roe v. Wade allows much later abortions, and there are states people can drive through to get very late abortions.

Also, if, for whatever reason, a mother gives birth to a child into an environment that is inferior to what the child might have had at a future time, and the mother was considering getting an abortion before the 24 week point that the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists claim is the point at which fetuses have the equipment to possibly experience pain... that child essentially was born into an inferior environment with no redeeming benefits to it. Were it aborted and the mother had a second child later, it would essentially have been teleported into a better environment. Again, that's just the way reality works. People reel in horror of that... and that's fine... unless they want to create laws that force people who see reality more accurately to alter their behavior.

Rape isn't some special case. It is a pregnancy. Just like any other abortion restriction... you need to abort early when most agree there is the least risk of just murdering a baby. Once the pregnancy progresses further this becomes more murky, babies can actually live outside the womb (with help) and they are pretty developed into actual people.

So, if you don't want a baby. Abort it early.

Now back to rape. The same applies. Most women when raped and who seek out medical care are given DRUGS/MEDICINE that protects them from sexual diseases and some form of morning after pill that stops any possible pregnancy.

So there is no reason to even be pregnant if she doesn't want to be.
She if someone doesn't get the medical care to prevent the pregnancy... they end up pregnant... then they don't want to take care of it early in the first couple of months... then we want to wait around until 4 or 5 months along. Too late then.

4 months would like be before the fetus would be capable of experiencing pain. That's before the 24 week point where that's supposed to be possible. Before that point, assuming that's correct, abortion cannot harm the fetus because an organism that can't experience pain and doesn't understand death cannot be harmed by death. It can, however, be harmed by the unpleasant act of being born. In that sense... being born would cause the fetus more harm than not being born. I would argue, therefore, that in every state abortion should be legal up to a minimum of 23 weeks... and we'd also need a few states that allow it to be legal much later for serious birth defects that aren't always detected early.

A woman needs to know she's pregnant before getting an abortion. That can only happen after missing her period, which can mean 6 weeks if her cycle is irregular. Pregnancy tests taken too early are negative. An abortion requires a blood test, which can take 2 weeks. With everything done right she's missed the deadline and forced to keep the baby.

I think you're ignoring what's best for the child here. They lose nothing from an early abortion. They won't understand death and they can't experience pain. They will, likely, experience an unpleasant sensation from being born though. In that sense abortion actually helps the child more... unless the abortion takes place late enough into the pregnancy that it results in pain. That's just how reality works, and nobody understands that, and that's a great tragedy.

There is no reason to create new life unless it assists existing life. Life that does not yet exist, or that does not understand the concept of death, doesn't really gain anything from being brought into existence, so far as I can tell.

Why is rape and incest always grouped together? Two totally different issues. Rape ok. Incest no. I do think its a life and if you have sex you're responsible for it. But if you dont choose to have sex you bear no responsibility for the life. Incest is not rape... or else it can be called rape. If a brother and sister for example are fucking each other and have a baby... well they are responsible for that life. The fact they are being incestuous is not relevant in terms of responsibility.

You don't have to choose lives. Abortion protects the aborted. The aborted don't lose anything they want to keep... unless pain is involved with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists states doesn't happen until at least 24 weeks into the pregnancy. Society has this common delusion that abortion can harm organisms that can't experience pain and don't understand death that stems from a lack of reasoning ability. You have that lack of reasoning ability... but so does the vast majority of everyone else.

I would agree about the artificial wombs though... except that they'll never be created in our lifetimes. Once they are created, and become cheap enough for everyone, I figure everything will be better though.

I am an atheist. It's my perspective that if a 16 year old gets pregnant, gets an abortion before the 24 weeks when a fetus might be able to experience pain, and has another child when they're 24, that's basically no different the first fetus being teleported into the future, into a situation in which the mother is better prepared to raise the child.

Now... if God implants a soul into someone... I think the most reasonable assumption to make is to assume that we can't know how that works, but to trust that following our conscience will lead to the best path. My conscience tells me that abortion essentially can teleport a fetus into the future... because that's what logic tells me is true. I don't think any all-knowing god who cares about us would us to live in a world in which logical conclusions lead to un-forseeable pain. I therefore think a God would see things the way I do.
