The allies of the USA grows rather thiner and thiner by the presidents you vote in. First it was Trump, now you have Biden doing what Trump does. France recalled it's diplomats a first in a very very long time not since WW 2. Even when Biden leaves his people behind and jumps ship. That's like being in a fire fight and having one of your democrat (*Enemy*) friends go all social justice warrior on you to fight the battle yourself.

The us is very likely to offer a counter to the rise of China in the coming years and this will be critical on the world stage.
It's important to have two or more dominant countries rather than one otherwise it can become a bit too much of an Orwellian super state.
All societies have fads and fashions. Historians will tell us that fascism was once considered pretty cool. It doesn't necessarily mean the country is critically broken when they adopt insanity for a while.
