As a black person who has had many white and black and Asian friends i'll say this.
For the most part unless people are actually racist they don't even think about someone from another race.
Generally if you're not in their social circles live within their community or work with you etc. You just don't matter or exist.
I'm not saying this to defend non white people but it personally have to say its the same for me too.
I really don't worry about things that don't exactly affect me.
Without sounding too selfish or self absorbed.
But I am aware of mob mentality and someone that's different can and will be treated differently.
Maybe it's part of human nature.
It doesn't have to be as aggressive as it can be if people actually learn to be kind and less territorial and get over superiority complexes.
I wonder sometimes if we'll ever find peace but I think it's exposure. And intercultural relationships and friendships that will change society.
Also the laws set to protect against discrimination.
Almost every ethnic group hates black people it's that simple, hell even bblack people hate their features asnd looking to black. We are broadcasted around the world to be thieves, unattractive, dumb and super ghetto and broke and that the only thing we are good for is our bodies. They hate us because they saw nothing but hate for us, and that if they hate us too. The other minorities will get some kinda "white pass" that gives you the privilege of being white. I find that funny because they aren't well liked either, but they will sell theur soul to get some white validation. I hate that dark skinned people are trying to lighten their skin and do surgeries to look more "Caucasian" just like I hate white people who do things to look more black, when we got shamed for those features. I had to straighten my afro and put it in a ponytail to get a job, it didn't look "professional" yet a white girl had a bunch of piercings, tattoos and half red, half green hair. I've been told my box braids were ghetto yet when a white or hispanic girl does it, trendy and cute. If i , sound mad" in the message, its because i am. Im sick of this bullshit. Im so fucking sick of this anti-black and NOTHING but worship to white people. Are feautures and culture are disgusting until its on white skin. Its about time a lot of y'all get called on your BS. If it doesn't apply, you don't have to say NOTHING. I get tired of the privilege, and y'all know y'all have it. You'd think some of y'all would use it for good, yet no.
I would like to live as an African American woman, and an African American man, for awhile, to see what it's like.
When I look at TV, I see an endless parade of white, heterosexual, Christian males depicted as bungling sociopaths, and an endless parade of everybody else depicted much better... so I don't think there's much more that can be done to change the perceptions you're talking about in entertainment media, at least in the U. S.
That said... as someone who doesn't find a lot of stuff related to African-Americanness attractive, I wouldn't be surprised if I've been somehow brainwashed into that by culture. I'm not sure what to do about that as a society. I know what I'm going to do about it personally: not care. I'm more concerned about stuff like the survival of the species. That said, because this afflicts you, it's entirely understandable that you're pissed off about it.
When you say stuff like that... I think it serves a useful purpose of spreading around your perspective. You, of course, live in a world in which 4/5th's of the population know nothing about black culture, or any culture aside from their own, really.
I say I'm not going to worry about it much... because while I empathize with you, I also empathize with a white woman who just kind of likes her afro and while her wearing that might indirectly harm you, I don't see that directly harming you necessarily... and I'd rather have her just keep doing what she wants if it's not necessarily going to harm anyone else... and I suspect there are many ways various minority groups get screwed like that. I like to encourage a culture in which we don't worry much about the small stuff. I'm very concerned about humanity literally going extinct... or something worse than that... and I often think that the best way to focus people on the preservation of the species is on focusing people away from the small stuff... but a lot of that small stuff involves attention to stuff like what you're complaining about, so I'm not sure what to do about that as a society... other than complimenting people for making the sorts of complaints you've made, because that alerts people to problems most people probably don't know about, while I'm not going to do a whole lot to change those problems.
Also... regarding white privilege, just to put things in perspective... yeah, I no doubt have white privilege... but do you have friends? I don't. I've heard black culture is very social. My culture sure isn't. I don't think I've ever had a friend I could be honest with. I've had one friend, who is not a relative, or dating a relative, in the last five years. He's a coworker and I can't talk to him about the things I find most interesting to talk about because we have very different political and religious beliefs. Aside from that, my only friends are my uncle and my sister's boyfriend, and my relatives... none of whom I can talk to about anything I care about deeply.
I'm not trying to invalidate your experiences. That stuff sucks... just emphasizing that I don't think race is the primary way people get screwed.
I think the answer to your question, and in what contexts it's true, will depend heavily on the nation we're talking about.
In the environments in which your comment is true, my guess would be A: black people have been screwed over worse than pretty much every large group... including the Jews, I'd argue... and various aboriginal people's... in some contexts... although not all. That's going to result in black people appearing worse statistically... higher crime rates/less education and such... which is going to make black people look worse in general.
and B: black people stand out more than other groups in the wealthy areas of the world. So, for example, despite the Irish also getting screwed by fate... I wonder if they're doing better now than the average black person because you can't pick them out of a crowd easily... so you can't easily apply stereotypes to them that stick. We kind of jokingly talk about Irish people drinking and fighting a lot... but I don't think most people take that seriously because now that Americans of Irish descent's accents have faded away, they're pretty much indistinguishable from everybody else.
I can't but wonder if all black people suddenly got a little less melanin... so it was hard to distinguish them from very tan white or Asian people... racism would suddenly disappear.
I've always wondered how black people might do in India or Pakistan... compared to most people who live there. Their skin tone wouldn't stand out so much there.
There are racists out there for sure, but I only know one or two people who harbor negative opinions toward anyone simply for having African ancestry. I'm sure it depends a lot on what part of the country you are in.
I do know many latte-liberals who hate racism but, at the same time they almost grovel and seem condescending in their desire to "help" blacks. As if black people need white people's help.
I know many conservatives, the overwhelming majority of whom are absolutely not racist.
I just see racists as ignorant. But I don't see pervasive racism around and I've been around a lot.
I think what we need is to forget about race and be brothers and sisters as part of the "human" race. In doing so, we can work to eliminate stupid racism against ANYONE. I mean, what could possibly be wrong with being of African, Asian, European, or indigenous descent? So-called race, as well as ethnicity, is a beautiful, diverse, interesting mosaic. How could one be better than another?

That is a good question and easy to answer.
First take two 1 year old to 5 year old children of different colors and put them together.
They will play and be best of friends.
Now do the same with the adults.
Prejudice is not something we're going with it's something being taught.
Hate is not a natural thing it has to be taught to somebody they have to be taught to be prejudiced and taught to hate.
In all reality it is straight out ignorance.
Also please don't categorize all white people as hating black people.
Not all do.
I myself am mixed my ancestry is part German Hungarian native American of the Ojibwe Nation and black as well.
Now if all the prejudice is one side quite often it is two sides against each other and it is taught over and over again to the next generation I myself don't look native and I don't look black and have been treated by my own kind as if I was a white man.
But please accept there are those of us that see your personality and you not your color.
And being prejudiced against somebody for the color is about as stupid as being prejudiced against them for what hairstyle they wear.
I have friends that are of many different races many different colors in fact one of my best friends is from Ghana.
And though he helped me to care for my mother my mother was very prejudiced against him and his wife.
It's all ignorance and stupidity
Crime, entitled attitude, and generally gross culture. None of this is universal, of course, but stereotypes exist for a reason.
Rap music, AAVE (ebonics), twerking, "bling", playing loud music in public, elevating drug and gangster culture, these are all significantly obnoxious to most other people, for good reason. And then when they complain that "the only reason" people criticize them is that they're black, give me a break. I just watched a video today where a biker yelled at a car for blocking the bike lane and a handicap ramp, and two black people get out, call him racist, grab a weapon, throw things, and yell at him as if "touching my car" is a worse offense than disrespecting traffic laws.
Again, this isn't and shouldn't be a reflection on all black people. Not all black people are poor, ghetto, gangsta types. But you have to shut your eyes pretty tightly to not see that this kind of childishness has a unique place of expectation among black culture. It's like opposing bad behavior itself is "not black enough". It's enough to taint anyone's perception. The only people who are okay with it are black people who try to justify it, and white liberals who feel guilty about everything. Everyone else is pretty comfortable in their opinion that an unfortunate amount of black people act gross.
If you don't like this answer, well, you asked it.
Lmaoo we are entitled? and yeah usually it IS because we are black. You'd have no idea would you? Also you act like white people don't do all of that shit and are seen as "cool" or "badass" also twerking? That was a white girl thing! We had "booty popping" twerking is white. They are not the samething lol you just hit us with so many steroetypes that ALL races are doing, only because it makes black people seem like scum the most. There are all Asian gangs, hispanic gangs and white gangs, almos everyone in the US smokes weed or Something. Yet whenever i see homeless drug addicts its mostly white people or hispanic. Also CRIME EVERYONE. We don't even rob people like that, but you so lost in steroetypes like everyone else. I walk down the street people grab theur purses, look their cars 6 times, cross the street when they see me. I have LITERALLY had the police called on me in my own neighborhood. Thank god the officer knew me. They do this because of stereotypes just like your whole commment is based off of, white guys like rap and CREATE it. EVERYONE including whute peopl use ebonics, because they feel cool. If steroetypes exsist for a reason, let me name some others. White people are weak physically and entitled, have nice cars, and rich parents, they play tennis, go trying to explore stuff they shouldn't especially in movies, love to be super tan, can't season their food, and the guys aren't good in bed, the girls are over sexual. They have no rhythm and are stiffs and no fun. Shall i go to other races?
When white people do those "black" things, people like me still think it's super lame, meanwhile, black people complain that it's cultural appropriation. The grossness I could dismiss as an unappealing fringe, but the widespread elevation and claiming of the grossness puts it over the top.
And crime... Geez. The statistics overwhelmingly show a wide disparity that cuts across location and income levels. If you look at any data, you can't come away with the notion that everyone is the same. Don't look, because it's embarrassing how not close it is.
A few thoughts about your white stereotypes: Most of them are true. Most of them are positive. And I'm not butthurt over your observations as you see them. So don't get all pissy when someone else gives you an honest overview of their own.
Ok so lets get into crime. There is 36.8 million black 0eople in the US. There is 235.8 million white people in the us. Black people's crime percentage is 29-36% and white peoples is 46-52% now which one do you think has the most violence? My point was about the sterotypes was none of them are true, some people tend to fall in those characters, but not all white people are rich, can't season are snitching ass stiffs. they don't all drink pumpkin spice and not every white person is weak ana afraid. None of these are true. I know black people who are weak or snitches, who can't season their food. And that goes tor every race. Yet you see how white steoetypes were positive though all other minorities steroetypes are negative and they aren't true. And ebonics isn't only for black people. It is for people who grew up in our area, we get pissed when we see hispanics people Asian people, white and even black people talking like that we they didn't grow up in a place that uses ebonics they just do it to look cool. You can be white, hispanic or Asian and talk like that if you were raised in a place where the majority spoke like that. also people like you are LAME. So it doesn't matter. You sound like a racist, you can try justify it anyway but you're wrong. this was your opportunity to get your hatred out. You did it! I hope you are proud of yourself. I will find it so funny if your kids if you have some end up dating somebody black.
First of all, what do you think you mean by "crime percentage?" Second, if white people have 6.5 times the population, but commit less than 2 times the crime, that's a statistic that reflects extremely poorly on black people.
Also, and I have no idea why people need this to be explained to them, but no one has ever said that stereotypes apply to every person in the group. I've never even suggested that ALL black people do anything. Men are taller than women. That's a general truth that absolutely has a bearing on reality. The existence of women that are taller than men doesn't make the claim false, unless someone actually claims that ALL men are taller than ALL women, which no one ever says. When a generality, an observable statistical tendency, is asserted, it is not disproven just because NOT ALL subjects match. There are values other than one and zero.
They do more crime than anyone, are you seriously trying to bs this. Only 14 million out of of 41 million black people do crime. 108 million white people do crime out 235 million, stop trying to make us look bad. There are MORE white people doing fucked up crime then black people. You LITERALLY just said that we have stereotypes for a reason, so you believe that we do those things. You keep switching up, as i said just say you are racist and leave it at that that.
I don't dislike all black people, but if you want an honest answer to this question I think black people need to assimilate. Your ancestors ravaged Spain for hundreds of years and the rest of Europe for hundreds of years after that as the Barbary pirates. And don't say that that was Arabs because free black people are a big part of North African society. You may not have taken as many of us as slaves as we did you, but you sold them to us voluntarily, you took yours by destroying everything in your wake. Africa may not be a great continent now, but before colonialism, most of it didn't even have the wheel. As for us not caring about you, how many young white men died for your freedom in the Civil War enduring harsher conditions than you can imagine. Or helped you in the Civil Rights movement. BLM is a symptom of a larger problem. Why is Nick Cannon still the head of TeenNick, why have all the apologies to the Covington students been from the white media, why are there nine black pimps for every white one. Black culture does not seem to have much capacity for sympathy for others. You have to lay it aside.
A lot of people don't want to believe this but it's the conditioning that society gives you. It is VERY hard to find anyone that isn't racist. They may not be toxically racist but they think and do things that are racist but they never notice it. Why do you think so many ads or videos or products or whatever, always have a white person on the box or logo? Things are always represented through the eyes of a white person. And if you ask them about it you'll find that they didn't even realize it until you said something. But most likely they will also take offense to it. Everybody is racist. Science has proven this. If you show people pictures of a black person and ask them certain questions then show them a white person and ask them same questions you'll see racism happening unconsciously right in front of you. Many studies on this. That is why the world hates black people. It's sad but it is truth. People are lying or unaware if they say they aren't somewhat prejudice. Ask a bunch of white people how they feel when a rough looking black man stands or sits near them. Idc what anybody says you can look at society and know the people of it must be racist. There is no other explanation.
Some Black girl got offended that there's a country called "Montenegro" . Honestly, no other race bitches as much as Blacks. But they're also extremely aggressive and act so uncivilized. Not ALL of them of course, but look how backwards and savage African countries still are. I'm not even talking about primitive tribesman. But rebel groups and criminals murdering eachother in the most brutal way, even eating eachother. In Papua New Guinea too.
This reporter interviewed a Black who lit a suspected witch on fire, and the reporter said, "She must have been screaming." And the Black just casually said, "Oh yes, VERY screem!"
I saw a video of Black kids in the Caribbean fighting and throwing chairs at eachother in the classroom. A lot of Blacks are still very savage, backwards and uncivilized.
There's a reason the only developed countries are White and Asians.
But in America it's mostly this racial shit, like the Montenegro thing I mentioned. Even African and Caribbean Blacks think American Blacks are pathetic.
"African-American" Bitch, you ain't not fucking African!
As far as I can tell... that reason why the only developed countries are mostly populated by white people or Asians could be that China's been a superpower since the dawn of time, and Europeans were pretty disease-ridden due to living in clustered towns. I mean... the Bubonic plague might have brought about the Renaissance through wiping out the serf caste and some people suspect that the reason North America was found to be a pristine wilderness by the pilgrims was because smallpox had wiped out so many of the natives before them. Without the U. S... the Nazis win WW2 and everybody hates all the white people for good reason... and that would have quite possibly been the case if Caucasions were not so disease-ridden as to have wiped out the Native Americans and taken over the U. S... and that's how simple changes can dramatically alter an entire race.
So I know that East Asian is very ethnocentric. For example China can literally put up a sigh outside McDonald saying no black people allowed the same goes with Eastern Europe like Sweden and Denmark. A lot of that has to do with social welfare programs so they can’t really except immigrants regardless of race.
America is the least racist country in the world, yes we have a bad history of racism but it’s due to that history that we try to be more excepting of other races in modern times. I was always taught to treat people based off of there character not skin color. Personally I think race is the least important part of someone but who they act and ideology is more important. This is why I can’t stand BLM. They take a statement that completely obvious Black Lives Matter and turn it into if you don’t believe in Marxism then your racist which is stupid.
Because black people are strong people. They have a powerfull mindset and physique. People are afraid of that empowerment and they are afraid they get overrun if they don't back em out. As far as your statement about why Asians are privileged goes, just know there are 4.5 billions Asians on the earth right now. Western people have no choice but to except em because that's a power in numbers you can't back out as a western country. They are still afraid tho but accepted their fate. They scarely wait for what steps China, South Korea and India gonna make that really change the world
Your view of race politics is so uniquely American. So uniquely ignorant. No other country in the world thinks in such low resolution terms as "white" "black" and "yellow". Asians - Indian, Pakistani, Chinese, Korean, and Japanese absolutely do not get along with each other, there's no racial unity with which the "whites" fear and placate to. Same with whites - American, French, German, Romanian, Italian, Russian, Spanish, etc. don't have racial unity. The blacks - American, Nigerian, South African, Caribbean, etc. don't have racial unity.
This worldview is absurd. These cultures are all quite unique from each other, and all these nations war with each other constantly throughout history. Even when they immigrate to a single place and you solely focus on that place, such as in America, when you break down outcomes by ethnicity, various white, yellow, and black groups are all over the place. As if the racist world view weren't weird enough already, these myopic takes on race are absurd.
@Nomoturtle blah blah blah. Go suck on a lime
It's not racial unity. They are discriminated because of their skin. I could say African people but there are African people who don't have a darker toned skin in which the western world won't recognize as African. You also have parts of the middle East in the continent of Africa which they also refer as "sand" people because of their culture and somehow don't know many African countries have exactly the same problem with their enviroment like the middle east. And yes, not all African with a darker toned skin are discriminated and not all western countries are discriminating. Nothing is 100% united, every country has a policy for keeping foreigners out and in Europe its a pain in the butt to even be here as a tourist. And yes Asians are a bit too simpfied to call it that way but it's not what I meant like. I never said they united in the first place😏 imagine if they did tho that would be crazy. No I meant they are afraid of those countries alone. Even tho they hate eachother, are still countries with the same idea of fear. Here people think Asian people are just Chinese people and thats it maybe they figur out Japan exists too but that's how far the average Dutch citizen thinks about it. I agree on the racist world view. It applies to country in the world. No one likes foreigners in their countries cuz they are afraid foreigners are gonna change the culture they adore so much. People are afraid to change.
"No I meant they are afraid of those countries alone" Yeah, you added up their populations as a single entity to explain the decisions of I don't know, some racially-unified cabal of evil white people deciding which pixel of humans to discriminate against.
"Here people think Asian people are just Chinese people" Yeah that's the sort of thing I'm talking about. And even if you know better, you still treat these groups as if they're the same, presumably because that's how news media and social movements treat them.
"No one likes foreigners in their countries cuz they are afraid foreigners are gonna change the culture they adore so much. People are afraid to change."
Yes and no. I don't think most people hate foreigners in their countries, most people even like seeing new people and learning from them, or going to other countries and learning their cultures, but yes people are also afraid that others will change their culture if there are TOO MANY foreigners. I like foreigners in my country, but there are too many. In many English cities there are now more 1st gen immigrants than there are English. In London there used to be a subculture of people called 'cockneys' and they've been displaced, they're basically extinct now. The problem is that foreigners come in too quickly and don't integrate with the host culture, and just make their own, and at that point it's not any different from a colony. This also comes with a lot of discord: huge rises in terrorist attacks, murders, rapes, etc. In France a church burns down every 2 weeks from arson, probably including the Notre Dame some time ago. And generally, people are losing familiarity with neighbours, talking foreign languages, and segregating themselves. This largely isn't good change. And why should a country be conquered by immigrants?
Well Britain shouldn't have colonized so many countries in the past. It's payback time. The only thing I can make up out of this conversation is we both can't describe how the world really is. We tried, we failed and lessons need to be taught in the near future. You don't know how I treat people because I leave myself out of this. I'm just describing what my country thinks and no soul can find the 100% accurate answer based on every citizen of my country. Most people isn't accurate enough. You point me out for that, but u use it urself anyways. It's not called colony its called community. You sure don't want to experience what's it like to be colonized.. that last question got me wheezing 🤣 I think I did mention about people that are afraid before 🤔
All nonblack people DON'T hate black people! For the record, I"m a white guy and I DO NOT HATE BLACK PEOPLE AT ALL! I've never oppressed anyone, I've never said or done anything racist in my life! Don't be guilty of what racists do: They pin a label on a whole group, or a whole race of people, and they then deal with the label instead of with the actual people.
As a Latina, I rarely had any good interaction with black people. Unless they’re the type of blacks with ‘white tendencies/personality’ (if that makes sense). Compared to the ghetto blacks that hate everyone around them because of their choices in life and struggles.
It's more so African-American blacks who bitch the most.
I'm part Melanesian, I have zero connection to Africa or any slave trade BS and no one in my family bitches and moans about racism. We're fine. But I have cousins that a part African-American, and when they've gone to the US to see relatives, they come back and talk about the prevalence of race in that culture. The people are apparently all antsy about it compared to us, it comes up too often, not because they're actively being racist, it's just on the forefront of their minds like they're trying to navigate around it. There are white racists, sure, but they're mostly the pandering racists in progressive circles. It seems like it's agitators backed by those people who provoke negative attitudes in people.
It's not the slave trade that has anything whatsoever to do with anything modern. I wish people would stop talking about that. It's obviously segregation that lasted until 1970 or... that a lot of people lived through... and income inequality, that people are still pissed off about.
@Halibut They still bring up slavery regardless, as if they had it the worst, or that it would even matter if they did. But it's the same for the segregation shit or anything else, they don't let it go and get riled up by white ideologues pandering to them.
They did have it, arguably, the worst in the country of their nation. It's also entirely understandable that they're still kind of pissed off about it. There are, of course, starving people in Africa who have it a lot worse than African Americans... but that isn't particularly relavent when you consider that Africa isn't their country. America is their home, and they got screwed over worse than pretty much else in their home and they never got any compensation for that and society still often considers blackness ugly and people tend to stick to people like themselves which means they'll naturally have a harder time networking and even if the police were completely unbiased black males have a higher crime rate which means black people who don't commit crimes would be targeted by the cops more... so we're dealing with a people who got screwed over worse than everybody else in their country, despite their ancestors working harder to build up that country than everybody else in the country, and they're still lagging behind everybody else for historical reasons... and they still have plenty of disadvantages over most groups in their nation so we'd be fools to expect African Americans to be entirely happy and patient about things... and they're right to be wary. Also here is useful statistical information: www.washingtonpost.com/.../
Regarding the bringing up slavery... yeah... humans in general are stupid. Black people are no exception to that. They don't understand that what they're really upset about is segregation... which is equally foolish as what you're doing right now, which is when white people assume that black people are going to be constantly smiling and cheery about everything... just because they're not living in some African third world hellhole scraping jiggar parasites out of their open wounds.
Actually... nevermind. I'm the one being kind of stupid. If segregation was all black people went through that would not have led to the modern income disparities and possible psychological ramifications... so maybe they're right to bring up slavery. That said, I don't hear either one brought up very often by the average black person. Modern concerns seem to mostly involve modern issues like income disparity, police bias... the fact that for black women and men Afros and dreadlocks are just easier ways to do their hair and society sees it as unprofessional... that kind of thing.
I could... however... understand concerns about humanity in general focusing too much on trivial problems and not enough on stuff like the big stuff... like the plight of third world nations, or the long term survival of the species... but that's pretty clearly a problem all of humanity has. If African Americans care about that stuff less wealthier groups do... it's because they have fewer resources... so I'd argue we should definitely be picking on people of wealthy nations in general.
They *want* segregation. It's probably not going to do them any good though. But it's not all of them, there are responsible black people who choose not to complain about all that nonsense and are as competent and capable as anyone else. It's their resentment holding them back. No one gets compensation for history, and being compensated doesn't solve the problem anyway. The solution is to not be fuck ups. The disparities remain only because they won't let them go. Live responsibly and you do just fine. It's that racial hostility of a history that isn't going to change which is used a justification that they shouldn't have to be responsible people. And it's that hostility toward others which invites more hostility along racial lines. It's taken shape as BLM and that's a toxic icon which out toxifies everyone else, inviting distain more than ever because it is legitimately bad.
All this bullshit complaining is making things worse, yet they double down on that instead of the obvious alternative.
The problem is that you're generalizing. This is not going to serve any purpose. It's just going to piss people off. Another explanation, for example, could be religion. I knew a black veteran who strongly believed that religiosity is holding down African Americans... and there's certainly a correlation high religiosity and high poverty rates... but at the same time, we can't just just blame all the problems on that either and expect them to go away because though I acknowledge that religion can cause harm... it can also organize communities and be a center of socialization and be helpful. This is a complicated issue and I very much doubt repeating "stop complaining" is going to be much of a solution. i think we're best off either not talking, or discussing very specific strategies... not pretending like we're somehow clever enough to know how to improve an entire race.
@Halibut I'm generalizing because it's impossible to talk about every specific individual. Being general doesn't mean it isn't good. I don't think anyone would contest that making responsible choices, like holding down a job and not committing crimes would have positive outcomes compared to not doing those things. The situation can be messy, but a solution which moves you in the right direction needn't be.
People getting pissed off about it are wrong to be that way. These are the toxic people I'm describing, and they shouldn't not be catered too.
But if we're going to throw our hands up and say it's too complicated to understand then lets stop talking about disparities or anything else. From that position, we don't know shit and shouldn't presume to be able to say any of these things is unjustified or otherwise.
Also thinking about "improving an entire race" is the problem. Stop the collectivist thinking. Stop caring about the race. Stop treating them as a race. Improve the situation for individuals.
I never said we should throw up our hands and say "it's too complicated to understand." I just suggested making arguments that are likely to be useful... due to being specific.
Do you really think you're saying anything any human being in existence hasn't heard a thousand times before?
@Halibut It is specific as it can be without looking at each case. And there aren't any approaches that are more specific than that so... yeah.
It's not unique advice, but it's good advice. People who do take it onboard frequently do better. Saying it more gets it to more ears and each time hearing it is another chance to accept it. People can be stubborn and need to hear it as part of the attitudes around them, not just hear a suggestion one time.
Then it's useless advice. Why should anyone care what you have to say without some kind of reasoning backing it up? What you're doing sounds like essentially someone wandering around saying, "accept Jesus," and everyone who hears that thinks, "I already do," or "no." It's supposed to be difficult to make big changes to pretty much anything. If it's not... there's probably not anything actually being changed.
@Halibut The advice is virtually a priori. Is committing crimes and not holding a job better for people? I don't think anyone would make that argument in good faith, and the comparison to "accepting Jesus" when they're obviously and overtly an objectively good things to do makes it look bad faith. If they *actually* already do these things then the message isn't for them and they should be promoting it for others and if they say "no" then that's exactly the problem and we don't cater to those people. You don't get to commit crimes and refuse to work then complain about being seen as a criminal and being unemployed.
The possibility of coming up with a particular idea yourself is profoundly unimpactful on outcomes. People need to hear it if they otherwise have not thought of it, but also hearing things from others, even if you've already considered it, is motivating and makes it seem reasonable. People need the whole atmosphere around them to pull them in a particular direction to really get them moving. And certainly hearing the reinforced again isn't going to hurt them. Whereas letting people come up with toxic ideas or transmit toxic ideas like "don't get a job, be a criminal" is at *best* not going to hurt them and at worse very much hurt them. And the presence of good ideas and hearing them takes up attention space which might be spent dwelling on bad ideas. So there's no reason not to tell people the right things, no matter how basic it may seem.
So... first of all... in a strategic sense, people oftentimes don't feel particularly motivated by other people telling them "You're screwed up. You need to be less screwed up." My dad, for example, had a strong motivation tending towards independence. His teachers told him that he shouldn't go to college... and that lit a fire under him and now he's a small business owner. He grew up in a tavern with rats running through the walls and he'd climb out a tiny window to go play in the alley.
Second... when people group me in with all white people, I find that irritating. When you're talking, you're not only grouping all black people together... you're defining them based off the worst aspects of a minority of them. Don't you think a healthy response to that mentality is a prideful "fuck you?" I feel like that's how most confident, emotionally healthy people would respond... and not doing so might imply a kind of self-loathing and depression.
Also... there have been studies that suggest that perhaps when society defines a group as screwed up, rather than inspiring that group to improve itself, that may, rather, just convince the group that they're supposed to be screwed up.
Also... you yourself said what you're arguing is common sense. You're not going down to the ghetto right now... you're saying that stuff over the internet. Therefore, a lot of the black people reading this probably have pretty high standards of living. I'm guessing, too, most of the people doing that complaining are black people with pretty high standards of living... because they'll have the free time. They won't have to work two minimum wage jobs. They'll own computers or expensive cell phones. They're probably not the people likely to end up in jail anyway.
So, to summarize... your arguments all appear to be offensive common sense that doesn't even apply well to your audience... and may have the opposite effect you intend it to.
@Halibut “in a strategic sense, people oftentimes don't feel particularly motivated by other people telling them "You're screwed up. You need to be less screwed up."”
They also aren’t motivated when you tell them it’s all someone else’s fault and that they have no responsibilities.
“When you're talking, you're not only grouping all black people together”
I literally distinguished between different kinds of people, so… no.
“Don't you think a healthy response to that mentality is a prideful "fuck you?"”
To what mentality? Grouping them all together? Well, again, I didn’t so any such characterization on their part and such a response would be a result of the toxicity I’ve been describing.
“I feel like that's how most confident, emotionally healthy people would respond”
I don’t think we’re speaking about confident and emotionally healthy people.
“when society defines a group as screwed up”
And I pointed out that’s what they’re doing to themselves. Letting that go frees them from that mental trap.
“Therefore, a lot of the black people reading this probably have pretty high standards of living.”
So ghettos don’t have internet now? You’re wandering into a bit of casual racist territory there with the stereotyping. They have phones, they have computers, they have internet.
“your audience”
They’re obviously not my audience. I haven’t been speaking to them, I’ve been speaking to you and the Asker.
“may have the opposite effect you intend it to”
This position has the virtue of being positive and it motivates the right kind of people who are genuinely interested in those sorts of outcomes. I expect literally any position will find the opposite effect from someone, for those in response to this, well that’s their damage. It only emphasizes the virtue of the alternative they’ve refused by observing the contrast in those who did and didn’t take the advice. They’re free to choose suffering and come around at a later time.
I dont hate them. But at least black people from North America use to be very problematic, loud and dont take much care about their surroundings in their house. And also we doesn't understand very well what they are saying. I think they have better bodies for athletism.
Generalisation much.
on a whole the do not.
if anything people stand up against obvious racism, protect their fiends and colleagues.
Yes you get the brain dead bigots who tar everyone.
invariably these same people are homophobic and show other types of bigotry behaviour.
You ask this question assuming other individuals lump you in with everyone with similar skin shade, and yet you haven't got the decency to identify others by anything other than skin shade. So if they were, then what right would you have to complain about it?
When you grow up and quit identifying others by race, then you will have earned the right to expect the same in return.
Because people hate those who cry about how unfair life is instead of working their ass off. Statistically black people are the most useless to society. Highest homicide rates, highest unemployment rates, lowest education and whatnot.
And don't give me that "but it's because discrimination". So fucking what. Not like other folks weren't discriminated. Like the italians or irish.
Check the cultural component of this interview. It is essential for understanding non black pathologies
That is a bit of a generalisation I would say. It’s really sad when people are racists, and there are definitely some around, but that’s not all people and it’s just because they are close-minded and were probably brought up that way. I and most people I know don’t hate black people at all, so maybe you’re just surrounded by a bunch of a**holes?
They look ugly to them. Because in most countries in Asia fair skin is considered beautiful IF you have a fair skin it means you look neat and clean.
You won't believe I'm from Pakistan, most people in my country think people who are dark skin are dark because they don't shower properly. They think it's dirt on their body which looks dark. But truth is it's just melanin.
The sad part is most people want fair skin in Asia.
That's why they hate black people. I know you may be laughing hard on their illiteracy. But unfortunately that's their thinking. Which has to be changed!
You are EXACTLY right. It happens all around the world skin color is very important, some peoplle stay in the house a lot or use sunscreen to avoid tannijng in other countries, even walking with umbrellas.
Well, I'm surrounded by quite a few racist people. Based on my experience it's usually based on stereotypes. I've often heard parents tell their kids not to look at black people too much bc they'll get mad and kidnap them. They'll basically use it as an excuse to teach their kids to avoid strangers. A lot of people in my area view other races as lower class. Some people see them as invaders. Its honestly pathetic
Because you keep calling us racist and assuming we hate you even if we're not racist... I have absolutely nothing against black people infact I appreciate them for making my favourite music genre... Yet here you again with this title saying I'm racist because I'm white.. Stop assuming we're all racist, were not... Only some,
When caucasians get together we talk about science, math, politics, etc. But black people just talk about black this and black that and you don't like me because I'm black and it's just not very interesting.
I don't know, I've never hated or disliked black people, in fact I've have some close friends of mine that I've met through work that have become some of my closest friends even though I am not black.
Small minded, passed on from ignorant parents/family/friends/community, encountered bad experiences with blacks in the past. Also, no one on earth likes each other, sure there are a lot of blacks that don’t like Asians/white/Indian people and Indians that hate Chinese and white people…etc
Because every group has to work extremely hard to achievew any success but the black peoples want to get free monies by accusing others of being mena to them
Who would pay fo reparations in the US? Would it only be the whites who were here from pre civil war era or would it be all whites? Would aisans or hispanics pay for it?
how about black immigrants that just arrived? would thwey get them reparations too even though they just arrived?
I don't buy into this premise one bit. You have racists, sure. But the vast majority of people I know don't give a lick about race. It's never once ever brought up.
Lol lies, its brought up a lot. I was talking about a nativeeamerican art being white washed. And the person did nothing but talking about black people. I said we are talking about indigenous art, not black people. He kept going, we get brought up even when we aren't the subject, just because YOU don't see it, doesn't mean its not happening.
@Jennahymen27 guess I got to quote myself again: "You have racists, sure. But the vast majority of people I know don't give a lick about race."
You mentioned an anecdote, which represents nothing. I've had racist words thrown at me too. doesn't mean the vast majority or even half the population are racist.
Lets qoute you again: people that "YOU know" The majority of the population may be "racist" but they are colorist, prejudice and stereotype us to the moon and back. Its known in every part of Asian thAT IFf you are dark with a big nose you are ugly, dirty and a criminal thats why they don't let their skin tan and try to reduce features like that unless Asians want to live up that stereotype. Shall i tell you about the korean commercial where she put her black boyfriend in the washer, because he was dirty and he came out korean? People are super racist and colorist in Scotland, south africa, india, france There are pretty of others where your skin color plays a large part of who you are. Yet not many people think like this? Half the world thinks like this.. That having dark skin, "black features" means you are trash. If I wanted to leave the US. I couldn't find a place on earth where my skin did not matter.
All's you mentioned is people's insecurities which lead to self hate. If the majority of people were actually racist, trust me there would be no representation under the law, nor would there even be any conversation allowed. We'd still have Jim Crow, there would have been no speeches by MLKJ, there would have been no Malcolm X, there would have been no acceptance of any non-white immigrants, there would be no President Obama, there would be no social welfare safety nets for PoC. The vast majority of people are not racists. You listen to a vocal minority and you let it ruin your day... in your case your life. Because you harbor and internalize that toxicity. You know how you deal with racists? Ignore and avoid them or get their asses fired. But don't ever fall down because of their shit because that's what they are, shit. I fell in love with a black girl once and she said things similar about how she's not beautiful and she can't compete with a white girl and it broke my f*cking heart tbh. When you've lived a life like mine you certainly see race very differently. One of my best friends is a Nigerian by the way, another is a Mexican, and another is an Iranian, and I happen to be Italian/Irish.
People change what they do not understand, period. That has never changed. Fear leads to misunderstanding which leads to anger and resentment. Did you know that biologically speaking our little chimp brains have issues being introduced to more than 150 people? It's crazy but true. Outgroup and ingroup are a thing. You have white and black people that get along well because I hey grew up as friends or neighbors. Then you have others who loved more isolated loved and they have more hate
Such is the nature of our human brains. Lectures don't help but exposure does. There's a better way then this type of approach being taken.
Because people are mad haters who literally just find random black in poverty and immediately assumed all black all homeless which is a coincidence because I seen a couple of non black people living on the street too.
Birds of a feather flock together. It's not right but that's the way it's always been. If you're white and in a neighborhood that's mostly black, Mexican, Asian, etc. they look at you like "what is this white bastard doing here?"
Because of constant whining and complaining how unfair life is to them and how they’re so discriminated against despite having legal discrimination called affirmative action. Plus the fact they want government handouts
I thought middle aged people get government handouts too
Affirmative action isn’t discrimination
You are aware that in the past jobs would not hire minorities and college admissions would skip over minorities until affirmative action came in and leveled the playing field, contrary to popular belief affirmative action doesn’t give anyone a leg up.
@canthelpyousorry don’t care. The act of hiring based on color is discrimination period. Blacks enjoy legal discrimination. They scream how much they want to be equal yet refuse to get rid of affirmative action. They are so inferior it’s the only way they can compete even though those conditions don’t exist anymore
@canthelpyousorry No, affirmative action absolutely is discrimination, and the people that put it in place even argued as such, presupposing that equity is the norm, and that discrimination must be enacted to enforce equity. Well that's bullshit. Inequity is a natural phenomenon; no two groups of any kind are equal in any outcome virtually ever. Even the same person is not equal to themselves across time.
Even if I pretended it wasn't, and also played along with your delusion that outcomes should be, or have been made perfectly equal, nobody actually wants to change it even when the pendulum swings the other way either.
A good example is girls in schools. Used to be girls didn't do so well, so they were given affirmative action programs, and now they're in university at a rate of 60/40, and yet people still jealously guard the policy.
Pterodon you are the one whining about something that you clearly don’t understand
Nomoturtle no it’s not
@canthelpyousorry That's not an argument. You weren't able to address a single thing.
Pterodon you are very immature for a guy that is almost 60
Nomoturtle because I already explained it earlier in the comments
Pterodon I’m white……
I love people of all race, I can't figure where
these people are coming from, Sorry you are up
to this problem
They don't. This is just popular culture as of late. Ignore all that shit. We're not buying the BLM or CRT bullshit.
Because African countries are not developed and because African immigrants do more crime on average and get more welfare and lookism is another factor most people don't find black physically attractive
Stupid, ignorant, I don't hate anyone and I'm not black , shit people come in all colors not just one.
I am Taiwanese, and I have experienced some racism and harassment depending on where it is I'm going. It just depends on place, and history of the people of said place.
They have such a strong sense of guilt complex because at some level they know that the condition black America is in is due to being downtrodden for so long.
Why do people keep racism alive? Be proud to be alive and do what you can and want with the time you have.
because they pull the race card every time they fuck up or when things don't go their way. Like right now you just did it
Started with the difference in color. Then once blacks were marginalized, it became easy to blame crime, etc, on them.
I am white and I have never hated black people at all. People are people.
bit steriotipical there
i defo dont hate black people and to be honest I just see everyone as humans and dont really take notice of creed color or origin
We don't hate you guys, we're just tired of American blacks whining.
Why do black people think none black people hate them?
Not sure that they do. Seems like you have that view, perhaps you should look at yourself and see where it comes from.
They feel “better” its always the “atleast i am not black” ideology they hold. Its sick and I genuinely think it roots from the most rotten people.
American black people just don’t have good culture. I get along fine with Africans
Wait... what?
Wish I can pin point a thing or two. The lady in pic looks good.
Its a brainwashed society that has been built off of hate. Its pretty sad if you think about it.
We don't. I assure you that is not a correct state of mind.
I don't have a problem with anyone becof their race. However I do have problems with people who are arseholes regardless of race.
Perfectly understandable!
That’s not true. I would say that a lot people take more issue with the behavior of black people than any other race.
Just USA SJW post. P. S - African Americans treat themselves the most bad...
Their big nostrils breath up all the white mans air
Why do some black people hate non-black people so much?
Can't fight Ignorance with Ignorance.
generalisations…🤦♀️
I don't hate anyone, but myself.
Why were African regimes the most oppressive?
Because some people are just closed minded.
Well the Asian thing is true
The vast majority of them don't.
For starters, you whine at the drop of a hat.
