My question is simple. How can you be African American if you were not born in Africa or ever even been to Africa? Don't know what it is like to be African. Most can't even point on a map to where Africa is.

I am not Scottish American, I am American. I was not born in Scotland , never been to Scotland. My dad was not born in Scotland. His dad was not born in Scotland.

I know a black guy that was born in Africa and became an American. He is African -American. I worked with him at a store. His family was allowed to come to America , and they are African-Americans now.

So, I say black American and white American. It is as bad as Black Lives Matter. All lives matter. Babies Lives Matter. Should it really be Black Lies Matter? Why do so many people misrepresent themselves? Liberals live in a fictional fantasy world where theories are treated as facts. Wear a mask , but I don't have to wear a mask. Liberals say "take their guns" , but "I will keep my Gun" . With Trump: "Don't take the vaccination " With Biden: " Everyone take the Vaccination" . We should fight racism , but allow racism in China.

The reason why black people in America are called African American is because of the history behind Africans living in America which is disgusting for you to be shitting on with that little picture reference you did there at the end. The reason African Americans are African American is because during colonization and enslavement they were removed from their land, stripped of their culture, and forced to work hard unpaid labor, abused, raped, tormented, dehumanized. Since most African Americans have no idea where they came from since slavery stripped them of that they’re called African Americans since all that’s known is the fact that they have ancestors in Africa. I also doubt you have a friend from Africa because your story sounds fake on top of the fact you went anonymous to ask this question which makes me think you did that since you weren’t comfortable with whatever question this is being associated with your name. Yep. I just felt particularly angry cause I notice how white people try to divide minorities. They did this with black and Asian people, look at any comment section where an Asian person was a victim of hate crimes from a black person and you’ll see all these white people and even Asian people being incredibly racist towards black people because of this. Honestly, the term "African American" is a way to delegitimize natural born black American's citizenship. It only started being used by democrats after the passing of the civil rights act, and essentially replaced the word "Niger", from our vocabulary. It is in fact the modern day replacement for "Niger."

An American is an American, is an American. It doesn't matter what color you are, the only thing that matters is the ideals you keep. Freedom.

For that reason I refuse to use the term "African American" unless I'm dealing with someone with actual dual citizenship, because only then is it an accurate description of a black American.

White and black/African American are very borad terms as far as describing race.

Someone could be white but they could have German, Ukrainian, English, Romanian etc roots and have very different cultures especially if they came from those countries.

Same with black people. Some may have Nigerian, Haitian, Egyptian, Ethiopian etc roots and their cultures with them.

This is why all this racial division going on is so stupid. All of this racial rhetoric implies that everyone with the same skin color has the same beliefs and think the same over all and that sounds pretty racist to me.
