+1 yWell…I think there’s still this big misconception going on that we wear a mask for our own safety. So a lot of times when someone is refusing to wear a mask, I think —or at least I HOPE— their rationale behind it is more of an “I’m not worried about contracting the virus myself, so why do you care if I have a mask on?” And the issue is, is we’re asking people to wear masks to protect EACH OTHER, vaccinated or not, since we all can still carry and spread it. I’m vaxxed and boosted, plus I had Covid about a month ago and was asymptomatic (rare bipartisan shoutout to the Trump and Biden administrations for overseeing development and distribution of the vaccine, respectively), so my concern is near 0% for myself. But the crazy thing about that is, is there are literally BILLIONS of other citizens of this crazy planet that I need to be considerate of so as not to be a selfish douchebag. Wild concept, I know😂 So with all that in mind, to NOT wear a mask is essentially saying “fuck you, rest of humanity. It’s all about me.” But I really like to think the majority of anti-mask people are better than that, and are just operating off of misconceptions and misinformation, and thinking this is strictly a personal choice issue, akin to how some people feel about wearing a seatbelt when driving. Except it’s different, because you could metaphorically crash the car and some complete stranger in another town, state, or even country, but who is someone else’s loved one, is the one who goes through a windshield. It doesn’t just affect you, in fact we already know it’s more about others than yourself, the idea is that we ALL do it, we ALL pull the wagon in the same direction, we ALL protect each other, and we just do the best we can in this crazy, constantly changing situation. OF COURSE people who simply don’t want to have to do it are going to come up with a million-and-one reasons why we shouldn’t do it, and they’ll cloak it in pseudo-science with some rogue doctor who was the fifth doctor they were referencing in some commercial where they say “4 out of 5 doctors recommend…”, or some other “but muh freedom”-type nonsense, but that’s all that is, NONSENSE, and it’s embarrassingly clear to everyone else what they’re trying to do.
Anyway, there’s been some very wild responses to all the Covid stuff overall, like some people truly couldn’t handle having to handle it, and it just broke them. Like Olive Garden and Applebee’s should be running commercials like “In 2020 muthafuckas were PROTESTING to eat here, SONNNNNN”😝 But yeah, due to unfortunate political hijacking and misinformation campaigns, a ton of people are out there unvaccinated. I’m frustrated by many of these people, but I still don’t want them to get sick. I hear these stories of people in ICU about to die, begging for the vaccine, and having to be told it’s too late for that, learning that they were led astray by people who don’t give a shit about them and made what’s proved to be a fatal decision…. that shit just breaks your heart, man. Even if I’m frustrated with them, I’m not mad at them and I don’t wish them serious illness or death. The people who roll their eyes or think less of me when I wear a mask, I wish they realized they’re exactly who I’m wearing it for. If pretty much everyone was vaxxed like we are with something like polio, the vaccinated wouldn’t need to have to worry about killing the unvaccinated anymore. That’s all I want, I’m not trying to force anything on anyone, I just want people to be safe and make the right decision based on correct information🙏20 Reply

+1 ySARS-Covid-2 binds to ACE2 receptors, which are present in every single mammalian cell. What that means is that ultimately, Covid can infect every mammal. This was verified several months ago; it's not news. It should have spelled the end of all restrictions, because it made absolutely unambiguous the truth that many of us have been shouting for two years now: you cannot avoid it. You cannot outwait it. Even basic herd immunity strategies aren't going to provide much protection; the decision to focus on prevention instead of treatment is going to be paid for with the lives of many, many vulnerable people.
So obviously no, I'm not okay with people perpetuating measures that kill the young and healthy in the name of protecting the old and sickly, especially since they don't actually do that.
I fully accept that there's no point in being an asshole about it, though; the battle lines are drawn, and people have decided by now where they're going to stand. If a business demands it, I'll just leave. My state demanded it; I just left.21 Reply
1.6K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I have no problem wearing a mask, or with being vaccinated. Other than in health care facilities, generally speaking there's no mask mandates that I know of in place for customers in business establishments. Some restaurants in some counties require their wait staff and kitchen help to wear masks, but I don't know if that's mandated or an establishment's business decision.
During the early months of the pandemic, we had to limit attendance at funerals and visitations to family and friends, not to exceed 25. Masks were also required for all attending, same with social distancing. Now they're not required, but encouraged at gatherings. We don't require visitors to wear masks unless the family so requests, which would be published in the funeral notice. We provide masks for those who show up without them.13 Reply- +1 y
Yes that is true, where I live they just started making it mandatory to the point that they will shut down a business. When they found out a lot of people was getting sick, especially the ones that were vaccinated that's when they made it mandatory. Corporate even told us that it's possible that we can be shut down if we don't make sure everyone is wearing a mask, we have lost people shop without wearing a mask because we assumed we couldn't bother a customer about wearing a mask. So in a way we have no choice to ask them to wear a mask or leave.

i'm against the mask mandates since they don't even prevent covid from spreading. plus i sometimes get mild anxiety in one. whenever i struggle breathing / feel like i'm in a narrow space my heart just starts beating faster and i get nervous. so to me, wearing a mask is pointless and even slightly harmful. however that's just for me personally, so i suppose it's different for everyone.

I’ve been fully vaccinated, but that’s been my choice. And here in the United Kingdom, most of the Covid rules have now been eased. But I still wear a mask when visiting stores, as I had to on Friday when I went to collect my new glasses from the opticians.
The problem being now with this Covid, you will never please everyone. They’ve got their own opinions (which is fair) and you’ll end up going around in circles having arguments you will never win.
I will continue to wear my mask to keep the peace in stores and enclosed public spaces.20 Reply
+1 yIf masks aren’t mandated, then I will usually not wear one.
Why? Well, it can be annoying to breathe through one and because I don’t think my chances of getting COVID and then dying from it are high.
I just prefer to not wear a mask because when talking to people it seems to be better to gather facial cues from them and vice versa.
If someone wants to wear a mask then I’m not going to object to them wanting to do so.
If it’s mandated, it’s no big deal, I’ll wear one.
I’m just saying it’s a slight preference of mine to not wear a mask.
I can put one on without any protest.
If I’m coming home to someone who is more at risk from getting COVID and dying from it then I’ll wear my mask just because I don’t want to possibly bring something to them and them dying because of that.01 Reply- +1 y
I live on the border line of 2 states, the other state doesn't mandate the masks so I never wore it, but my dad almost died because of covid and now I wear one even if I know I don't really have to. It does suck when it comes to breathing, talking, hard of hearing because it sounds muffled especially when surrounded by a busy crowd. When my job didn't mandate it I didn't tell customers, I just offered masks if they did prefer one, but when they say no, I didn't say anything after that, but now I have to make sure they're wearing one, I can understand what they mean, but I don't want to lose my job and after witnessing what my dad went through I didn't go near him when people came to me without a mask on. Even though people were still getting covid with a mask I just still kept my distance. I just step a little further away when someone doesn't have a mask on
5.9K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic. I'm 100% opposed to mandatory masking. I won't bore you with all the reasons why.
If an establishment insists that I wear one or refuses to serve me, I will never ever patronize that establishment again.
The government officials who are imposing mandates do so for cynical reasons that have nothing to do with public health. The goal is to obtain compliance in order to usher in totalitarianism under the globalist technocratic, eugenicist plans for the Great Reset/New World Order/One World Government. Those plans can only be achieved if people relinquish their rights and comply.00 Reply- 2.7K opinions shared on Society & Politics topic.
+1 yI have no problem wearing the mask when going out in public and, indeed, in my country you can be fined for failing to do so. I got vaccinated because of a recent government mandate and to protect my own personal interests. As for that nutcase you describe that ranted and raved, I think that people with mental health issues should seek out the services of suitably qualified professionals to help them with their issues before being allowed to interact with the rest of us more normal and stable humans. She is part of the problem, not with the mask or with the COVID 19 virus, but with the wider society.

+1 yI am fully vaccinated. I hope everyone else gets vaccinated especially adults 65+. However; at some point extremely soon (like now), we need to give up the mask bullshit. Its already been 2 years of our lives; and the vaccines have been out for a long while now. Democrats need to get over their big power trip and let it go; or else there will be an even bigger kick ass come these November midterms. They really are the worst- they think they can tell everyone what to do.

+1 yI’m done wearing the masks. I was unvaccinated for most of the pandemic, unfortunately having to getting the crap after recovering from the optimus prime variant. All because I sometimes go to clinics and hospitals for work.
And unfortunately I’m not in the position to afford losing my job over a dumbass vaccine.
I won’t get the booster tho, hell no05 Reply- +1 y
I was also unvaccinated during half of it, I was scared of getting covid and I was also afraid of getting vaccinated. And I agree I'm also not in the position to afford losing my job, even though I'm taking higher positions I'm still struggling with car notes, and paying for my house, if our store gets shut down again, I will probably lose my home. I can't afford another shut down. So I can understand how some people feel about the masks and vaccine but then again I have to follow the rules so I can keep my job, home, and car. I was homeless once before getting this job. I really can't do this again over something like this
- +1 y
Lol I had to get the booster after hearing that some jobs are being stern about employees being vaccinated or not.
- +1 y
I hear ya, you mentioned “following the rules” but we need everyone, including people like you to gather together to fight (literally or not) once the rules begin to infringe on our freedoms and rights.
Especially when the people laying down these rules don’t follow them themselves - +1 y
I don't know what state you live in but I live in California. One of the most strict places and it’s interesting cause on the surface level you see many people “following the rules” but also, you see them not really giving a fuck if they see other people not following the rules. Maybe cause they are done with this nonsense but are too afraid to go against the grain
- +1 y
Yes that is true. I will mention this to corporate, I wouldn't be surprised if they show up on Monday when they find out about this incident.

+1 yAgainst. It's not like they do anything. In fact, they'll probably raise your chances of getting sick! Maybe not from covid, unless you've already got it but, from having to breathe in your own exhalations trapped in the mask. They can also help spread covid if you DO already have it!

@goaded there are so many different kinds of masks and so many silly rules for wearing them. You can take them off while you are drinking for example. How does Covid know you are drinking? I have the type of mask that has the one way valves on them and I removed the rubber piece so I can breathe while I do cardio. I imagine my germs get expelled with more velocity through the smaller holes. I see people wearing bandannas and other people not covering their nose. Rand Paul is right, masks are nothing but theatre.
- +1 y
Some people only wear them as theatre but they do it without a care for other people.
The CDC specifically says: "Do NOT wear international respirators If they have exhalation valves, vents, or other openings"

Support businesses requesting mask use if they are also providing masks at the door

@OddBeMe have two masks. But as someone who serves a clientele and considers the customer experience. It's just good business to provide a mask if you're going to make a request of customers that is relatively new.
Believe it or not. If two businesses are competing and one requires masks. They will lose business to one that doesn't. If they require masks and don't provide masks for people who don't have one or forgot their mask then that business will lose even more customers.
It's an annoyance and if you want people's money you gotta make it easy for them to give you their money. Masks are a barrier.

- +1 y
Yes, all the “masks are effective” studies are bullshit. As are you.
- +1 y
You’re exactly right. SciENCe is when you get on TV and claim masks are useless, then email your buddies and tell them that masks are useless, and despite mask technology not changing, and despite the method of disease transmission not changing, the next month you insist they work. Then masks are effective when you wear them walking to your restaurant table but completely unnecessary when you sit down. Then one mask isn’t effective so you need two, then three, but now we’re back to one, and you must wear cloth masks on a plane, but then they’re called nothing but facial decoration. Then 70,000 people can sit in an enclosed stadium without masks screaming their heads off for four hours, but then kids have to wear masks in school the next day.
You follow ScIENCe. - +1 y

Your belief in the value of masks is astounding. There's only a twofold purpose for masks
1. Decrease the chances of you touching your face and ingesting through standard fidgeting potentially having covid on your person
And
2. If you currently are covid positive and contagious, presents you from sneezing or by other ways spewing droplets of covid onto others person who may later ingest it.
That is fundamentally how masks work. Mechanically. It's not science. Science would be testing their effectiveness under very specific criteria not making broad statements.
It's not that complex. And you can spread covid just as much while wearing a mask. Sure IF you're covid positive having the mask on has lessened one avenue for you to spread it. But you can in fact still spread it positive or not, vaxed or not.
Masks lower overall risk to a degree by Mechanical means. But big picture most important thing in terms of actually protecting people:
Improving and maintaining physical health > natural immunity post recovery > Monoclonal antibodies that makes it easy to get the best protection, natural immunity > Vaccine of you're unhealthy and or have no access to antibodies in your area.
The vaccine is the most annoying and least effective option second only to masks. Because at the end of the day a mask still leaves you in your original state of being at risk with respect to your immune system.
Sure a fat slob who doesn't have the immunity and isn't vaxed AND wearing a mask is 2% safer than the fat slob who doesn't have the immunity isn't vaxed and doesn't mask.
Big fucking whoop. You've taken a step that is literally the least helpful thing you could possibly do. Pretend as if it's so complex and that others don't understand and argued about it for multiple days.
Just stop dude. You regularly practice being a cunt and it's unbecoming. You're not some intelligent moralistic figure you attempt to come off as. It's pathetic - +1 y
