No, if this were true then the Jewish couple would have a major first amendment case in their hands. With the aclu offering to rep them free of charge.
I am not getting notifications for responses, this is so frustrating. I didn't bury the lede. The question is regardless of religion, although in this case I did mention later this specific one had to do with a Christian agency
The issue I guess would whether Tenn or any state can “sponsor” a religious org that can discriminate against people not in their religion. Not that Tenn govt is discriminating per se. It’s close, tho.
However, I also believe that a child should be raised with a mother and a father. (I know you probably disagree with me, obviously; and that's okay. Just please know that I have nothing against you personally. This is just a philosophical viewpoint.)
I posted two of them in my response to loveslongnails, but I am sure you can find this particular one easy enough, just look up Tennessee adoption agency denies jewish parents
"State-funded Christian program" sounds like an oxymoron to me. It's a clear violation of the separation of church and state, which was implemented to prevent situations like these. Either the program needs to allow foster parents of all religious backgrounds, or the state needs to stop funding the program.
Unfortunately our government is so bloated it essentially funds everything. And can you blame literally any business or organization for accepting free money? Pretend it was you. You would say wow i could help so many more kids if i accept this money they want to give... ofc you would.
Except I'm not helping if I'm denying people over their religious beliefs if they are otherwise good parents. They do realize this works every way right? What if people start pushing back against Christians? Refusing them medical treatment because they are not Jewish or gay? This is a stupid and slippery slope.
Um its not really the same thing. Adoption agencies "customers" are not the parents. Its the children. So they are doing it in their opinion to best serve the child. Business and non profits exist to serve a certain segment and they must do so or they will lose their funding or even be sued. How many christians do you think would stop funding the adoption agency if they gave kids to transexual couples? Is that in the best interest of the kids if they lose their funding? Remember they are there to serve the kids. Forget that they hold personal beliefs they are unfit parents but assume they didn't. They still couldnt do so simply because its not going to serve the mission of helping the most kids possible.
Sometimes and some things work best on large scale... for example facebook. Some things work best on a small scale special collector items custom made for sale. Most charity fits into small scale since the most help you can give is personal. Just giving some money or a can of food which is now more large scale is much less helpful than personally offering a homeless person a spare room and a job at your small retail shop. But only a specific person can offer that specific help to the specific right person thats a good fit for.
So yes i think many smaller adoption agencies that cater to different things is ideal. Many christians might not want to give a child up to be adopted by shintoists or some other religion as well. So its not such a simple thing. You also forget jews have their own organizations and are quite organized and exclusive themselves. They would not want to lose this ability either.
Thanks. I see the law is being challenged in court. It's a really controversial subject. The immediate problem I see is even if the law is upheld, there are many differences within Christianity itself. How does the agency decide "which type of Christian home" do we advocate for, or against?" Are we ok with Methodists but not Lutherans? Catholics but not Jehovah's Witnesses? It's going to get messy.

No. Religion has been the cause of millions of deaths for centuries, and should be banned
It's not going to be your baby, so why get mad about its future parents?
i would reframe the question: is it ok to make children suffer through religious indoctrination and delusional parenting?
Because its a legal right to hold religious beliefs and act accordingly.
It is equality because everyone can fo that
Not if they are state sponsored. This is a clear mix of church and state which is not allowed
My personal opinion is that you lose the right to raise a kid with your own religious beliefs when you give up the responsibility of raising the kid.
However, I also believe that a child should be raised with a mother and a father. (I know you probably disagree with me, obviously; and that's okay. Just please know that I have nothing against you personally. This is just a philosophical viewpoint.)
Link the story. I'd like to read it.

It's a hard one but I suspect if if was the other way around Jews would have a problem
It's never O. K. too deny kids a loving home
religion should just be fucked at this point
Just exactly do you beleive religion is? Just curious...
Just more hypocrisy in the world
what do you expect from nazi commie bastards like the US gender biased court system
You're asking why a private Christian adoption agency discriminated against non Christians? Smh.
STATE SPONSORED Christian agency.
State sponsored planned parent hood? Not sure what you're getting at. Maybe the state shouldn't sponsor things that involve religion
Now you got the right idea. Thats the point.
