Are you working out for yourself for your own sake or is this a progress bar to manipulate others? I get what you're saying but it's hard to read people's intentions and we are better at picking up actions. These things get mixed up and people assume the worst.
You know the classic nice guy™️, jump through enough hoops and the girls will fall in love with you. The gym rat has similar energys. This is the basis of the argument where guys have a mono personality trait amd go all in and avoid being a fully realized individual.
I think men largely be it left/ right wing, lady killers/ incels struggle with pigeonholing themselves as a single personality trait. Doing so is an alienating life to others and unfulfilling for the individual.

I mean, the male body ideal and by extension work out has pretty strong ties to some really fucking stupid ideas of "Masculinity" that honestly can't die fast enough. So yes, there very much is a toxic part of men working out that not just the left wing but everyone should have a problem with because it is both harmful for society but also harmful for the people themselves to participate in.
A good example is the rampant issue of steroids and such in a pursuit of a male bodytype that is not realistic without harmful substance abuse as a form to reaffirm how "manly" they are. Pure insanity that is and it is ruining their lives over some stupid personal insecurity.

The MSNBC article is about how white supremacists lure young white men that workout on the social media to follow group chats were they are targeted by far right groups. At the end it even says that there's nothing wrong with working out and that it's perfectly healthy.
This is just another example of people fixating on what "the other side" said and totally blowing things way out of proportion.
Go outside and take a walk. Try to go to a gym without your phone and look around at the people around you. No one is judging you as a white supremacists. No one it targeting you.
What the west thinks is the far left, is actually not far left. You look at many countries with leftist insurgencies (far left) and those guys get up early in the morning for drills and practice and change location every two days, walk through the jungles for hours. You need to be fit to be able to keep up. The west has cartoonified many things.
All the far left people I know enjoy working out, as do I. It's good to be fit and strong, regardless of your political views. It's just good as a human being for your health.
Most far lefties I know are pretty active people. But maybe that's just my friend group.

Because they see it as a sign of "toxic masculinity" if guys are focused on their body and especially focused on building up muscles. To some people that seems outdated and unnecessary mostly because they don´t do it and they would feel even better if no did it. Some people are just intimated by it so they try to make those people feel bad that are actually doing something not just dream about changing.
They do not like to see others improving themselves because it means (to them) that "I" want to look better than you. Call it jealousy.
On a similar note, I used to read non-fiction books while sitting on the "throne" and my ex- would open the door to see what I was doing. She would ridicule me for improving my knowledge while I was downloading.
I'm left wing and I work out. I read the article and it wasn't about that though. It said there are far right groups pretending to be just about fitness and then sneaking in the propaganda later. I have never heard of any political group opposing workouts.
The author is ridiculed for associating physical fitness with Nazism by referencing a passage from mein Kampf and then going on a slippery slope tangent.

Not all left wingers are this way, many of us lift as well. A buddy of mine is far more left wing than I am and has a 700lb squat and 400lb bench. He's strong af. Jamie Lewis is pretty left wing as well, and a world record holding powerlifter.
The ones that do feel this way are often incredibly out of shape and would rather make excuses or create mental hoops to jump through to justify their lack of fitness over getting off their lazy asses and doing something.

I have been a gym rat my whole life. Somehow this revelation does not surprise me. I see more pickup trucks with "Back the Blue" bumper stickers in the gym parking lot than I see Priuses with "COEXIST" stickers.
Because tthe ideology of the left glorifies weakness, failure and ugliness. Masculine power is at odds with the man hating females and the self hating soy boys.
