What did you do in your 20’s?

Question

Early twenties working at the mall and in college. This was my going to bars and nightclubs era. Worked for a lot of psychics kind of chain dated. Mid twenties started my career had some ups and downs. Moved to Pittsburgh possibly moving to Akron. Almost got engaged twice. Got heavy into Politics. Studies several religions.

I graduated from high school in 1972 at age 18. From age 20-26, I was still living the partying high school life, similar to frat life. Sex, drugs, booze and rock & roll.

I was a good lead guitarist and had my own three man band (bass and drums), playing the guitar and doing the vocals. We played hard rock, progressive rock, and were popular locally.
I had long, rock star hair.
I was also a surfer and spent hours at the beach, especially during the summers.
I skateboarded, roller skated, and played a lot of Frizbee. I snow skied sometimes, too.

During those years I had a car, so my friends and I went a lot of places and had some amazing experiences. I hiked and back packed a lot, too.

My friend had a party house out in the middle of nowhere, so there were always a bunch of people partying there.

I always had a girlfriend.

I attended my first rock concert in 1970 and went to almost one a week through a good part of the 70s decade. I saw the greatest bands and performances ever.

I started attending community college right after high school. I took music theory, electronic music, acoustics, some PE classes like archery and canoeing, but also completed quite a few general ed requirements. I did goof around quite a bit when I was there and wasn't a super serious student.

I had several jobs. One was in a private concession inside a Sears store. I made keys, did engraving, and sold Ticketron tickets.
Another job was being in charge of floor maintenance at the administration complex of a school district. All I had to do was sweep, buff and wax floors from 3:00 to 11:00 every day. I was pretty much on my own except for the old janitor. I smoked a lot of weed and listened to music while on the job.
Two other jobs were in warehouses. At one, I was in the shipping department. In the other, I mostly drove a forklift. I partied at lot at those jobs, too.

When I was 26, I got offered a job as a motor vehicle damage field adjuster/appraiser trainee with an insurance company. I had to cut my hair and start wearing a suit. They sent me to Irving, TX, for two weeks training, all expenses paid.
I found that job very difficult at first, but the salary and benefits were amazing, and there were additional perks.

One problem at first was, after cutting my hair, I no longer recognized myself. I felt like an imposter at the job and in a suit, and I didn't fit in with the kinds of people I used to feel comfortable with.

Autobody shops would take adjusts to lunch every day to really good restaurants. I discovered good food for the first time. Because of that, and because the job was sedentary (even though I worked in the field), I gained weight. That made me like myself even less.

I didn't have a girlfriend because I didn't want the kind of girlfriend who would want me as a boyfriend. So, by the end of my 20s, I was kind of miserable, but I was making good money. At 30 years old, I bought a condo.

The good news is, I went on Weight Watchers, lost my excess weight, worked out and got back in shape again by my early 30s. By that time, I had also grown up and become comfortable with my new persona. My life took off again. It's been a great ride ever since.

Well... when I was 21 I started my career. I had a boyfriend for 3 years at that point. For fun - I'd mostly hang out with my boyfriend. We'd do different things - movies, play pool, go to sporting events, sometimes go to bars.

That's pretty much how I spent my twenties. Then by 27, I married that same boyfriend.

Early 20's I was in college still. Working as a CNA at the time. This was about the time my partying life calmed down lol.

Finished college and got a job pretty quickly. Stayed with it for a bit before there was an opening in the unit I wanted to work in. Got hired in that unit and I've been there ever since!

20s have been kind of a trip. Between the pandemic, a serious relationship that ended up basically burning me, maturing, working more... it all sorta made me grow up, at least somewhat.

I still enjoy going out / hanging out with friends, but instead of the weekend revolving around it like before now it's like, if something pops up. cool, otherwise I'mma chill. Kinda the same with the relationship stuff. I'll always be open to meeting people, from friendship to whatever else, but it doesn't matter as much to me as it used to.

Wasted them searching for love/romance, simping to women, and finishing undergrad school despite having to sue my former university for a false charge and expulsion. Oh, and I also had severe depression during this time (from age 17 to 31, actually.)

Most of this wasn't even my fault, but I feel like I wasted my best years in life. By the time I was 27, I felt old. At 35, I feel VERY old, now! At least, physically. Mentally, I feel like I never left my 20s, and that I'm mostly still the same person as I was in 2012. Just a little wiser, like no longer pursuing women or wasting my time trying to date.

I met a girl at a party at 21, we moved in together a few weeks later.
We stayed together all throughout our 20's, got married at 26 and I was a dad at 27.
I worked all kinds of manual labor jobs during that time, and just enjoyed being in love, and raising a child basically.

Made love to lots women, dropped a lot of acid. Ended up on a school bus stoned out of my goard, traveling all over America in it. I was going to be a novelist but nothing great or American happened to me. I started a software business and stayed in Paris a couple of summers. Finally luck ran out and I had a kid and got married and now I'm divorced and lonely as fuck.
